Ces fonds permettront l cole Telfer de s approcher davantage de son but de se classer parmi les meilleures coles de recherche au Canada comme C FOAM est constitu principalement de professeurs de l Ecole Telfer This pledge comes on the heels of a 1 million pledge from the Social Science and Humanities Research Council and Fisheries and Oceans Canada to the Ocean Management Research Network OMRN chaired by Telfer School professor Dan Lane also a member of C FOAM Telfer Professors Launch New Study on the Transition to a Sustainable Society The Telfer School of Management is pleased to announce the start of a new project entitled Making it happen the transition to a sustainable society The project will be managed under the direction of Dr Andr Potworowski with the help of an advisory board whose interim chair is Dr Tom Brzustowski Over the last several decades numerous reports and studies have advocated change towards a more sustainable society less dependent on fossil fuel with increased conservation of biodiversity and critical resources such as water Yet such visions require change deployment of technological innovations and different ways of doing things to address these sustainability challenges The objective of this study is to identify and better understand the social and economic barriers to innovation and change as a basis of proposing government interventions to unleash the innovative potential in C2. 18. r All this activity will be a great way to expand the international reach and reputation of our School An academic expert in the fields of innovation entrepreneurship and the global operations of small businesses Dr Freel also plans on using the fellowship to fuel his current research interest entrepreneurial recycling Most venture capital backed businesses do one of two things they either fail or they his reputation and status as succeed and are sold he says I want to gain a better understanding of what successful entrepreneurs do when they cash out these businesses Do most of them retire from business life and head to the beach Or do they do things with their money such as start other companies become angel investors endow university chairs or give to charities To gain greater insight into this question Dr Freel will create a Canadian dataset on technology based cashed out entrepreneurs He is in the process of hiring several students to locate as many of these entrepreneurs as possible The students detective work will be aided by data from the files of the National Sciences and Engineering Research Council which maintains a listing of companies which have spun off from research funded by NSERC grants Once we track down these cashed out entrepreneurs we re going to ask them some key questions about their behaviour after they sold their businesses says Dr Freel who in additi
