1. U REA OUI GF Installation Manual TWM Performance Short Shifter 2002 and up Subaru Impreza WRX RS TS 1996 2001 Subaru Impreza 2004 and Up Saab 9 2X 1996 2001 Subaru Legacy 1997 2004 Subaru Forester 1 Open the center console storage compartment and locate both slots used to pry the back part of the center console off Begin removal of the center console by using a flat head screwdriver covered by a shop towel Insert the covered screwdriver into the slots one at a time and pry gently upward using caution not to damage the console itself The clip below the console will pop out with careful prying move to the next slot and repeat For the 1996 2001 RS the console is removed by locating and unscrewing several screws which secure the console 2 Disconnect both plastic connectors beneath the rear part of the center console Note their locations for re installation 3 Disconnect the larger plastic connector at the front of the rear part of the center console Remove the rear part of the center console and place it in a safe area 4 Unscrew the shift knob and separate it from the shift boot Lift up on the front portion of the center console and it will pop out 5 Unscrew the nut securing the shifter to the shift rod Remove the bolt that passes through the shifter and shift rod place the nut and bolt in a clean area they will be used for re installation 6 Remove the stock shifter by prying back and downward

The white plastic ball will pop out of the cup at its base Push out the steel cross sleeve in the stock shifter with your finger and clean it with a shop towel re greasing it afterward Remove the rubber bushings on either side of the shifter and clean them with a shop towel These will be re used in the installation of the TWM shifter 7 Install the rubber bushings you removed from the stock shifter in the previous step into the TWM shifter 8 Insert the steel cross sleeve that you removed from the stock shifter in step 6 into the TWM shifter 9 Grease the bottom pivot ball of the TWM shifter and place it on the cup at the base of the shifter 10 Screw the shift knob on to the TWM shifter Use the palm of your hand to force the shifter to pop into plastic pivot cup at the base This may require a strong impact using the palm of your hand to pop it in Remove the shift knob once the TWM shifter is popped in to the base cup Caution do not use a hammer to pound the shifter in to the cup as the threads on the top of the shifter or the shift knob may be damaged 11 Re align the shift rod with the steel cross sleeve in the TWM shifter and re install the bolt securing with the nut Use caution not to over tighten 12 Re assemble the console first installing the front half Replace the shift knob in to the boot and thread it on to the TWM shifter Re connect all plastic connectors in the same manner as they were to the re
