AWARNING Fire Hazard Drying in a heated dryer can damage plastic or rubber items or be a FIRE HAZARD 2 Select the Air Tumble Cycle Place 3 or 4 dry towels in the dryer with these items to help absorb the moisture Scatter Rugs Check label for fiber content then see Cycle Selection Chart on page 13 for cycle recommendations 1 Dry one medium size rug or two smaller rugs at one time A rug should tumble freely Do not overload 2 Clean the lint screen AWARNING Fire Hazard Use only Air Tumble Cycle for drying rubber backed rugs Drying rubber backed rugs with heat can damage the rubber backing and be a FIRE HAZARD Slipcovers Check tabel for fiber content then see Cycle Selection Chart on page 13 for cycle recommendations 1 Dry one slipcover at a time 2 Remove from dryer while slightly damp 3 Press pleating or ruffles if you wish 4 Put slipcover on furniture while a trace of moisture remains for a smooth tight fit Snowsuits Jackets e Nylon e Polyester base Check label for fiber content then see Cycle Selection Chart on page 13 for cycle recommendations 1 Dry garment for about 10 minutes Remove tum inside out replace for another 10 minutes Remove and hang on a non rusting hanger to finish drying 2 Remove from dryer immediately after tumbling to help eliminate wrinkles Starched Items 1 Dry starched clothes in a separate load 2 Always

8. able to move freety in the dryer e Overloading can cause slower uneven drying Poor air movement can result in more lint residue on clothing because lint cannot reach the lint screen e Uneven drying may also result from loading heavy and light items together Light items will overdry and heavy items will not be dry When drying a load with different kinds and weights of fabrics use the setting suggested for the lightest fabric e Small loads may ride around the drum without tumbling Add one or two dry lint free towels to help with tumbling 7 This dryer is designed for the care of modern fabrics e This dryer has a cool down time at the end of drying cycles See Cushioned Heat Drying System and Cool Down time sections on page 10 This helps reduce wrinkling but the total cycle may be longer than you are used to 8 Avoid overdrying Every fabric has a natural moisture content If clothes are overdried this moisture is removed Clothes may have wrinkles static electricity feel harsh and in some cases shrink Remove clothes with a slight trace of dampness Damp cotton and rayon knits should be laid flat to finish drying 9 Remove clothes from the dryer as soon as tumbling stops Hang or fold immediately Wrinkles may be set in clothes that are left in a warm dryer after it stops 10 Even items labeled Permanent Press may require touch up ironing due to decreased quality of permanent p
9. 99 minutes elf less time is desired touch TIME DOWN until the time you want shows in the display Time can be set down to 1 minute If the load you have finished drying is not dry enough 1 Touch OFF 2 Touch ON 3 Touch a Cycle Selection for the load 4 Touch TIME UP or TIME DOWN for the number of additional minutes needed Remember to select a different dryness setting the next time you dry a similar load COO 30 mi OO GUARD m CEA SCREEN IMPORTANT If you decide to switch to a CUSTOM DRY Selection after the dryer has started tumbling follow instructions under CUSTOM DRY on page 8 When a CUSTOM DRY Selection has been made the Time Display will read AU After a period of tumbling the dryer will calculate and show the remaining time needed to dry the load This time will count down until the cycle ends Cycles CYCLE SELECTIONS REGULAR HEAVY PERMT PRESS DEUCAES AIR TUMRLE REGULAR HEAVY PERMANENT PRESS and DELICATES are automatic cycles A sensor in the back of the dryer drum senses the moisture in the load When the selected dryness has been reached the dryer shuts off Regular Heavy Cycle This cycle can be used for heavy and mediumweight items such as towels biue jeans corduroys bedspreads and linens Permanent Press Cycle Use this cycle to dry permanent press items knits and other synthetic fabrics Delicates Cycle The Delicates Cycle should be sel

BLE 90 min AWARNING Fire Hazard Drying rubber plastic and other heat sensitive materials with heat can damage them or be a FIRE HAZARD Caring for the Clothes Dryer For maximum use satisfaction and longer dryer life follow these guidelines e Do not place sharp or heavy objects on or in the dryer Damage to the finishes may result eTo clean dryer exterior wipe with a soft damp cloth e Never leave wet or damp laundry in your dryer Damage to clothing or the dryer drum may result Lint Removal Lint can gather inside the dryer and create a fire hazard This lint should be removed by a qualified person at least once every two years or more often depending on dryer usage A WARNING Electrical Shock and Personal Injury Hazard e Unplug the power supply cord or turn off the electri cal power before removing dryer panels e Make sure the dryer is cool Dryer parts can have sharp edges Use care when handling Failure to do so could result in electrical shock or personal injury 1 Remove back panel for electric models or the lower access pane for gas models Remove lint from shaded area see illustrations with a soft brush or vacuum cleaner Avoid damaging wires thermostats funnel gas models or igniter gas models Replace panel Reconnect and level the dryer Cleaning the Dryer Interior AWARNING Electrical Shock and Personal Injury Hazard Unplug the power

RD is canceled during operation the dryer will shut off To cancel SMOOTH GUARD Touch SMOOTH GUARD anytime during the cycle The light will go off showing that the option has been canceled Cycle Sentry Option The dryer will automatically beep 5 times at the end of a cycle The dryer will also beep every 5 minutes when tumbling in SMOOTH GUARD These signals tell you the dryer cycle is finished and the load can be removed The light will stay on when CYCLE SENTRY is on The signal can be tumed off but the volume is not adjustable To cancel CYCLE SENTRY Touch CYCLE SENTRY any time during the cycle The light will go off showing that these signals have been canceled Features Pause Restart The Indicator Lights m DRYING m SMOOTH GUARD mm CLEAN SCREEN DRYING indicates that the dryer is in the drying portion of the cycle COOL DOWN indicates that the dryer is in the Cool Down portion of the cycle See page 10 for more Cool Down information SMOOTH GUARD indicates that the dryer is in the SMOOTH GUARD portion of the cycle See page 11 for more SMOOTH GUARD information CLEAN SCREEN indicates that the lint screen needs to be cleaned and airflow is being restricted Restricted airflow causes longer drying times and can become a safety hazard For best results clean lint screen before each load as shown on page 14 PAUSE RESTART allows you to stop the dryer to check the load

Start with a cold dryer If drying more than one load dry starched items first 3 Tum dark articles inside out so starch spots will not show on the outside of the garment 4 Check load about 5 minutes afte drying starts to be sure items are tumbling freely and that nothing is sticking to the drum 5 Do not overdry starched articles starch will shake off the garment and be lost 6 For best results remove clothes from dryer at ironing dampness Place in a plastic bag and hold for at least 30 minutes to distribute moisture evenly before ironing 7 After drying a heavily starched load allow the dryer drum to cool then wipe it out with a damp cloth This guards against build up or starch transfer to articles dried in later loads Tinted and Non Colorfast items Check label for fiber content then see Cycle Selection Chart on page 13 for cycle recommendations 1 After drying is completed wipe the drum carefully to make sure there is no dye or lint that could be transferred to subsequent loads If dye transfer does occur follow the cleaning instructions on page 18 Washable Knits Check label for fiber content then see Cycle Selection Chart on page 13 for cycle recommendations Remove cotton and rayon knits such as T shirts knit underwear when still slightly damp Stretch into shape and lay flat to finish drying 2 Knits made of synthetic fibers polyester nylon acrylic etc an
14. and or fail to shut off They can also clog the lint screen and slow drying See Lint Screen Maintenance on page 14 for proper cleaning Service or performance problems caused by the use of any product not manufactured by KitchenAid are the responsibility of the manufacturer of that product Make Selections KitchenAid Superba Selectra Ar Permanent Press care AWARNING To reduce the risk of fire electric shock or injury to persons read the Important Safety Instructions on page 3 before operating your dryer Touch On Touch ON The dryer will power up but the drum will not start tuming The Cycle Selection lights will scan and the Smooth Guard and Cycle Sentry lights will come on The controls are now ready for selection Touch a Cycle Selection Touch a Cycle Selection that matches the type of load being dried The light will stay on for that selection The dryer selects the correct drying temperature for the load See the Cycle Selection Chart on page 13 for recommend ed cycles IMPORTANT The Cycle Selection lights will scan until a selection has been made You have 15 minutes to make a selection before the dryer automatically shuts off When a selection has been accepted 1 beep will sound and the indicator light will stay on When a selection has not been accepted 3 beeps will sound and the indicator light will not stay on 8 IMPORTANT The AIR TUMBLE selection aut
15. d blends polyester cotton tend to pill Rubbing during wearing and laundering causes small balis of fiber to form on the surface Tum inside out to wash and dry Remove from dryer as soon as tumbling stops 3 Do not overdry Overdrying can cause shrinkage and a build up of Static electricity Some items may need touch up ironing For Service or Assistance Follow These Steps 1 If your dryer should fail to operate review the following list before calling your dealer You could save the cost of a service call If your dryer does not run e Is the power supply cord plugged into a live circuit with the proper voltage e Is the door closed tightly Did you touch ON e Did you touch a Cycle Selection e Have you checked your home s main fuses or circuit breaker box IMPORTANT If the Time Display shows E1 or E2 call for service If your dryer does not heat e The Air Tumble Cycle does not use heat and the last few min utes of all cycles do not use heat e If you have a gas dryer is the gas tumed on e The circuit supplying an electric dryer uses 2 breakers or 2 fuses if one breaker is tripped or one fuse is blown the dryer may run but not heat if drying times seem too long e Is the lint screen clean e See the Slow Drying section in Common Drying Problems and Causes chart page 19 e Is exhaust duct or outside exhaust hood clogged e Is your electric dryer plugged into a
16. d and damage to some materials can result from e operating the dryer with the lint screen loose damaged or missing allowing lint to build up inside the dryer and exhaust system The exhaust duct and interior of your dryer should be cleaned by a qualified technician at least once every two years See page 17 for lint removal instructions Never allow children to play on or in the dryer Close supervision is necessary when this or any appliance is used near children When discarding an old dryer always remove the door to prevent accidental entrapment Do not tamper with controls Do not reach into the dryer if the drum is moving Do not let dust lint paper rags or chemicals pile up around or under the dryer Do not install against draperies or curtains Keep area around the exhaust opening free from accumulation of lint dust and dirt Do not install or perform any servicing unless you are qualified improper installation repair or servicing may result in personal injury or fire hazard Do not use fabric softeners or products to eliminate static unless recommended by the manufacturer of the fabric softener or product Clean lint screen before each load SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS FOR YOUR SAFETY FOR YOUR SAFETY if you smell gas Do not store or use gasoline 1 Open the windows or other flammable vapors or 2 Don t touch electrical fluids such as dry cleaning 3 4 switches solvents o

18. ected for drying lightweight and delicate fabrics such as sheer curtains gauze and lace CUSTOM DRY SELECTIONS VERY DRY MORE MOST DRY Drying time is based on the CUSTOM DRY Selection chosen and the moisture present in the load Choose a CUSTOM DRY Selection to indicate the degree of dryness you want for the clothes being dried For the first few loads select the NORMAL CUSTOM DRY Selection When finished check the load for the desired dryness If dryness is not what you expected use the following as a guide e Select MORE or VERY DRY the next time you dry a similar load if the load is not dry enough e Select LESS the next time you dry a similar load if the load is too dry e Select MOIST DRY if you plan to iron the clothes after drying Cushioned Heat Drying System In the heated drying cycles the dryer automaticalty reduces the heat setting to prevent overdrvina of fabrics Cool Down time After the CUSHIONED HEAT drying time is finished the dryer will tumble without heat during the last minutes of all heated cycles This helps keep wrinkles from setting and makes the handling of hot load items easier Air Tumble Cycle The dryer does not use heat when the Cycle Selection is set on AIR TUMBLE The Air Tumble Cycle automatically provides 20 minutes of timed drying without heat If more or less time is wanted touch TIME UP or TIME DOWN A CUSTOM DRY Selection cannot be used with Air Tumble Use t
19. els at one time Sheer curtains need plenty of room to fluff so be careful not to crowd the dryer 4 Remove from dryer while slightly damp Do not overdry Diapers and Baby Clothes Check label for fiber content then see Cycle Selection Chart on page 13 for cycle and temperature recommendations 1 Remove diapers and cotton knit items from dryer while slightly damp so that they are easier to fold feel softer and shrink less __ 2 For convenient handling wash and dry small items in a mesh bag or pillow case Draperies Check label for fiber content then see Cycle Selection Chart on page 13 for cycle recommendations 1 Remove weights and hooks 2 To help prevent wrinkling dry only one or two drapery panels at one time depending on size 3 Remove from dryer as soon as it stops Some drapery fabrics may require little or no ironing if you remove them from the dryer while Still slightly damp then smooth and hang them Flame Retardant Finishes Some items you buy may have been treated with a flame retardant finish to improve their resistance to buming if they are exposed to flame Items treated in this manner will be clearly labeled To help reduce the possible loss of the flame retardant qualities through continuous use and washing follow laundering instructions fumished by the manufacturer of the item Glass Fiber Materials Do not dry glass fiber materials in your dryer The fibers can b
20. ers can cause a residue build up on the lint screen A clogged lint screen can extend drying times Clean the lint screen every six months or more frequently if it becomes clogged due to a residue build up Use the following method 1 Wet both sides of lint screen with hot water 2 Wet a nylon brush with hot water and liquid detergent 3 Scrub lint screen with the brush until all residue build up is removed 4 Rinse with hot water 5 Thoroughly dry lint screen with a clean towel and replace in dryer Clean Screen Light If you neglect to clean your lint screen the CLEAN SCREEN Light will come on The light indicates that airflow has been blocked by lint build up on the lint screen To tum off the light tum off the dryer by touching the OFF pad and clean the lint screen as explained above Drum Light The drum light automatically comes on inside the dryer drum when the dryer loading door is opened Replacing the Drum Light AWARNING Electrical Shock and Fire Hazard Before removing light bulb either unplug the dryer or disconnect the electricity leading to the dryer at the main power supply e The bulb cover must be in place during dryer operation to prevent overheating and possible damage to fabrics Operating the dryer with the bulb cover removed can cause the dryer to fail or create a FIRE HAZARD 1 Unplug the dryer or disconnect the electricity leading to the dryer at the main power supply
