AND UNDERSTAND ALL INSTRUCTIONS Failure to follow all instructions listed below may result in electric shock fire and or serious injury SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS WORK AREA 1 Keep your work area clean and well lit Cluttered benches and dark areas invite accidents 2 Do not operate the Digital Scale in explosive atmospheres such as in the presence of flammable liquids gases or dust Electrical products create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes SKU 95069 For technical questions please call 1 800 444 3353 Page 2 10 11 12 ELECTRICAL SAFETY Grounded products must be plugged into an outlet properly installed and grounded in accordance with all codes and ordinances Never remove the grounding prong or modify the plug in any way Do not use any adapter plugs Check with a qualified electrician if you are in doubt as to whether the outlet is properly grounded Ifa grounded prouct should electrically malfunction or break down grounding provides a low resistance path to carry electricity away from the user Double insulated products are equipped with a polarized plug one blade is wider than the other This plug will fit in a polarized outlet only one way If the plug does not fit fully in the outlet reverse the plug If it still does not fit contact a qualified electrician to install a polarized outlet Do not change the plug in any way Double insulation D eliminates the need for the three wire grounded power co

The grounding prong in the plug is connected through the green wire inside the cord to the grounding system in the tool The green wire in the cord must be the only wire connected to the Scale s grounding system and must never be attached to an electrically live terminal See Figure A A grounded appliance must be plugged into an appropriate outlet properly installed and grounded in accordance with all codes and ordinances The plug and outlet should look like those in the following illustration See Figure A Figure A DOUBLE INSULATED APPLIANCES APPLIANCES WITH TWO PRONG PLUGS Appliances marked Double Insulated do not require grounding They have a special double insulation system which satisfies OSHA requirements and complies with the applicable standards of Underwriters Laboratories Inc the Canadian Standard Association and the National Electrical Code See Figure B SKU 95069 For technical questions please call 1 800 444 3353 Page 4 Double insulated tools may be used in either of the 120 volt outlets shown in the following illustration See Figure B Figure B l 5 m l i EXTENSION CORDS Grounded appliances require a three wire extension cord Double Insulated products can use either a two or three wire extension cord As the distance from the supply outlet increases you must use a heavier gauge extension cord Using extension cords with inadequately sized wire causes a ser

KU 95069 For technical questions please call 1 800 444 3353 Page 6 Unpacking When unpacking your 70 Lb Digital Scale check to make sure that all parts listed in the parts list on page 9 are included If any parts are missing or broken please call HARBOR FREIGHT TOOLS at 1 800 444 3353 It is important that you read the entire manual to become familiar with the product BEFORE you operate and use the Digital Scale Assembly Your Digital Scale comes completely assembled Only maintenance such as battery replacement may be required Operation This product can be powered by an adapter or used with a 9V battery as the power source Using the Adapter 1 Plug the Charger Plug 30 into the Jack 24 located on the Scale Plug the Charger Plug into a 120V electrical outlet 2A When done using the Scale unplug the Charger Plug 30 from the Digital Scale Unplug the Charger Plug from the electrical outlet Changing the Battery 1 Batteries must be replaced if a picture of a battery is displayed in the LCD window Gently push in on the tab on the Battery Cover 27 and pull the Battery Cover 27 up see Figure 1 2 Unplug the battery connecton from the Battery 26 Replace the dead Battery 26 with a new 9V Battery Snap the battery connection back onto the top of the Battery Figure 1 Battery E Battery 26 over 27 batey compartment Using the Scale 1 Press the Mode Key see Figure 2 to set the S

7. cale to the desired unit of weight pounds or Kilograms 2 The Scale has a Backstop 1 located on top of the Scale Lift the Backstop 1 Set the item to be weighed against the Backstop 1 Failure to lift the Backstop 1 may keep the Scale from operating properly 3 Set the Scale on a level surface free from vibration and clear of electronic interference such as radios phones and microwaves 4 Press the On Off Button to turn ON the Scale see Figure 2 SKU 95069 For technical questions please call 1 800 444 3353 Page 7 Mode ne Tare O oncor Wait until the LCD readout displays 0 0 Place the object on the weighing platform Wait for the LCD readout to indicate the weight of the item The Hold Key is used to lock in the readout for several seconds Weighing Tare Tare is the deduction from the gross weight container plus product to allow for the weight of the container 1 Press the ON OFF Button Place the Tare item example the container onto the weighing platform Press the Tare Button and wait several seconds until 0 is displayed Once the 0 is displayed put the item that you want weighed apart from the container on the scale along with the container which you already have on the Scale Wait for the weight to be displayed The weight shown will be for the item only After this operation a series of dotted lines may appear on the readout Remove the items from the w

9. ious drop in voltage resulting in loss of power and possible tool damage See Figure C next page The smaller the gauge number of the wire the greater the capacity of the cord For example a 14 gauge cord can carry a higher current than a 16 gauge cord See Figure C When using more than one extension cord to make up the total length make sure each cord contains at least the minimum wire size required See Figure C lf you are using one extension cord for more than one tool add the nameplate amperes and use the sum to determine the required minimum cord size See Figure C lf you are using an extension cord outdoors make sure it is marked with the suffix W A W in Canada to indicate it is acceptable for outdoor use Make sure your extension cord is properly wired and in good electrical condition Always replace a damaged extension cord or have it repaired by a qualified electrician before using it Protect your extension cords from sharp objects excessive heat and damp or wet areas Specific Safety Rules for the Digital Scale Supervise children while using the Scale Remove the battery if the Scale is not used for a long period of time Dispose of old batteries properly Make certain to follow all local laws and restrictions for proper disposal Avoid serious eye injury Always wear ANSI approved safety goggles when working with tools and equipment The Digital Scale is not United States Postal Service
10. rd and grounded power supply system Avoid body contact with grounded surfaces such as pipes radiators ranges and refrigerators There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is grounded Do not expose the Scale to rain or wet conditions Water entering the Scale will increase the risk of electric shock Do not abuse the Power Cord Never use the Power Cord to carry the Scale or to pull the Plug from an outlet Keep the Power Cord away from heat oil sharp edges or moving parts Replace damaged Power Cords immediately Damaged Power Cords increase the risk of electric shock When operating the Scale outside use an outdoor extension cord marked W A or W These extension cords are rated for outdoor use and reduce the risk of electric shock PERSONAL SAFETY Stay alert Watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating the Scale Do not operate the Scale while tired or under the influence of drugs alcohol or medication Store the Scale out of reach of children and other untrained persons Electrical products are dangerous in the hands of untrained users USE AND CARE Do not use the Scale if the Power Switch does not turn it on or off Any appliance that cannot be controlled with the Power Switch is dangerous and must be replaced Disconnect the Power Cord before making any adjustments changing the battery or storing the Scale Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of turning on
11. the product accidentally SERVICE Scale service must be performed only by qualified repair personnel Service or maintenance performed by unqualified personnel could result in a risk of injury SKU 95069 For technical questions please call 1 800 444 3353 Page 3 When servicing the Scale use only identical replacement parts Follow instructions in the Inspection Maintenance And Cleaning section of this manual Use of unauthorized parts or failure to follow maintenance instructions may create a risk of electric shock or injury WARNING Improperly connecting the grounding wire can result in the risk of electric shock Check with a qualified electrician if you are in doubt as to whether the outlet is properly grounded Do not modify the power cord plug provided with the Scale Never remove the grounding prong from the plug Do not use the Scale if the power cord or plug is damaged If damaged have it repaired by a service facility before use If the plug will not fit the outlet have a proper outlet installed by a qualified electrician GROUNDED TOOLS TOOLS WITH THREE PRONG PLUGS Tools marked with Grounding Required have a three wire cord and three prong grounding plug The plug must be connected to a properly grounded outlet If the Scale should electrically malfunction or break down grounding provides a low resistance path to carry electricity away from the user reducing the risk of electric shock See Figure A
