The size of the external hard drive is too small or too large The device has been connected to or is associated with another account The hard drive has not been reformatted for the DishHD 21 1t An external hard drive can only be used on an authorized customer account The external hard drive can only be used on DishHD accounts that are authorized for DVR DishHD 211t detects an external hard drive at the USB 2 0 port The DishHD 211t has to be restarted in order to provide the DVR Conversion features DVR recording of a satellite or off air program is in progress A timer is scheduled to go off in the next two minutes What to Do e Make sure that only the external hard drive is attached to the USB port Having a USB hub attached to the DishHD 211t s USB port and having other devices attached to this hub causes the DishHD 21 1t not to recognize the external hard drive Set the DishHD 211t by pressing and holding the POWER button on the front panel of the DishHD 211t with the external hard drive connected to see if the DishHD 211t recognizes the hard drive after the reset If not the hard drive is not compatible Only install a USB 2 0 external hard drive The external hard drive size must be between 50 GB and 1 TB The external hard drive has to be reformatted before using it with the DishHD 11t If the external hard drive has been connected to a DishHD 21 1t on a different DishHD account and

ER DELETING TIMER Chapter 7 Timers TIMERS A timer is your instruction telling the DishHD 211t the programs you want to view in the future For most DVD VCR or DVR if you have attached an external hard drive and activated your account timers you select a specific program on a specific channel and tell the DishHD 211t how often you want to record that program If using a DVD VCR to record to be sure to set up the DishHD 211t to control your DVD VCR If you do not have an external hard drive attached to your DishHD 2111 then you can use timer to remind yourself when a program that you want to watch is about to begin Only for external hard drive DVR recordings are listed in the My Recordings screen which you can find quickly by pressing the remote control s DVR button twice or pressing the DVR button and selecting My Recordings from the My Recordings screen Note The Main Menu on the DishHD 21 1t is different if you have an external hard drive attached to the STB Timer Types There are three types of timers e DVR Records an event onto your external hard drive for later viewing only if an external hard drive is attached and the account is activated for this feature e Auto Tune Automatically changes the channel for live viewing of the event e Reminder Creates an on screen reminder when the event is about to air Timer Frequency Deciding how often you want to watch a program helps you make the bes

IDING LOCKED CHANNELS LOCKING OR UNLOCKING THE FRONT PANEL CREATING OR CHANGING A PASSWORD LOCKING AND UNLOCKING YOUR DisHHD STB Chapter 5 What are Locks WHAT ARE Locks Locks allow you to password protect programming based on ratings or on a channel by channel basis The following occurs when you have locked the DishHD 21 1t If you try to access a locked item or open the Locks menu the DishHD 21 1t displays message prompting you to enter the password The DishHD 211t allows you three attempts to enter the correct password If you fail to enter the correct password before the fourth attempt the DishHD 211t does not allow you to try again for several minutes If you enter the correct password you can access the locked item or open the Locks menu If you exit a locked item or close the Locks menu you must enter the password to access the item again Locking the DishHD 21 1t is a two step process 1 Create the locks that you want Ratings Locks locks programs based on ratings Channel Locks locks channels regardless of content Hide Locked hides locked channels from being displayed in the Program Guide and other channel lists Front Panel Lock prevents the front panel buttons from being used 2 Lock the DishHD21 1t When the DishHD 2111 is locked anyone who wants to access locked items must enter the password See page 32 Creating or Changing Ratings Locks CREATING OR CHANGING RATING

89. p HD settings Frequency Switch default to 60Hz 1 Consult your HDTV user s guide for the HD format resolution that the TV supports 10801 or 720p 2 Press MENU select System Setup and then HDTV Setup to open the DishHD 21115 HDTV Setup screen 3 While in this menu select the Aspect Ratio option that matches your TV e 16 9 is the setting for wide screen HDTV display e 4x3 1 is the setting to use on a 4x3 TV which uses vertical compression When viewing a 16x9 program a compatible TV automatically makes the picture letterbox format black bars top and bottom to preserve the correct horizontal and vertical proportions Connections Connecting to TV e 4x3 2 is the setting to use a 4x3 TV which does NOT have internal vertical compression When viewing a 16x9 program such a TV will not show black bars at the top and bottom and the picture will appear tall and vertically stretched 4 On the back panel of the DishHD 2111 there is a toggle switch that changes from 50Hz to 60Hz By default it is set to 60Hz This switch affects TV output in the following ways When the switch is set to 60Hz the following TV formats are supported RCA Composite NTSC RCA Component HDMI 480i 480p 720p and 1080 e When the switch is set to 50Hz the following TV formats are supported RCA Composite PAL RCA Component HDMI 576i 576p 720p and 1080i Select Done If required set up
