3. frame tubes into the elbows You may need to pull the slack out of the inner cord A useful technique is to pull the two Rear Elbows away from each other while gently rattling the frame tubing Install the Crossmember X Fit the Crossmember Tubing together Install the X into the chair by fitting the Crossmember s red tubing ends into the open ends of the Rear Elbows Fit the other two ends of the X into the 2 Upper Pole Joints Install the Backrest X Fit the Backrest tubing together Place each End Cap into each Corner Pocket then fit the opposite end of the poles into each of the Lower Pole Joints You may need to slide the Lower Pole Joints along the Rear Elbow tubing to ensure a good fit If you need to move your chair grasp it by the Backrest Poles or Frame Tubing Lifting the chair by the fabric sling may pull the sling off of the Backrest Poles The Coffey Chair is designed to be stable when used as a complete unit Always fully assemble the chair before sitting in it Ensure that all of the frame tubing joints are completely joined Avoid sitting in the chair with protruding objects on your person Those objects could damage the sling causing it to fail Use in Snow The Coffey Chair works well in the winter environment The only two additional considerations when using your chair in snow are stomping a small platform and periodically moving the chair Stomp your platform until you can walk on it without your feet sink
4. ing into the snow Give the stomped snow at least 10 minutes to solidify more time is better Once the snow has solidified setup and use the Coffey Chair as normal Over time the Coffey Chair will slowly settle into the snow It is a good idea to periodically lift the chair out of the snow and set it down a few inches from its original position Using Trekking Poles as a Backrest An alternative for the Coffey Chair s backrest is to use a set of trekking poles To set up the chair with trekking poles 1 Assemble the frame and install the Crossmember X as usual 2 Size your trekking poles by seating one pole s handle in a corner pocket and matching that pole s tip to the intersection of the Crossmember X Match the second trekking pole to the first pole s size F Y I this technique sets your pole length to approximately 35 inches 3 Seat the handle of each pole into each sling corner pocket and seat each trekking pole tip into the small hole inside the bottom of each lower pole joint SL When using trekking poles as the Coffey Chair s backrest the user may need to slightly adjust the poles length for optimum comfort If you feel your chair is curling you into a C lengthen each pole about 1 2 inch If you feel like you will slide out of your chair shorten each pole about 1 2 inch Note the Coffey Chair is rated for its 250 pound capacity only when used with Rambling Raven Designs LTD Backrest poles or Hammock K
5. it Given the various designs and quality of trekking poles on the market the Coffey Chair is not guaranteed for any weight when used with trekking poles Using a tree as a backrest The Coffey Chair s design allows a third backrest option By using the Hammock Kit to secure the Coffey Chair to a tree you can turn the chair into a half hammock In the half hammock configuration the tree provides the backrest To tie the Coffey Chair to a tree 1 Loop the Attachment Strings through the Sling s Webbing Loops and back onto themselves forming a girth hitch knot 2 Slip the Attachment Strings over each end of the Hammock Bar 3 Place the chair approximately one foot from the base of the tree 4 At a height of 4 feet above the ground wrap the Hammock String around the tree at least three times and secure it to itself with two half hitch knots Note The Coffey Chair is weight rated for its 250 pound capacity only when using the Hammock Kit installed as described above Rambling Raven Designs LTD provides no weight rating when using any other installation method or materials Care of the Coffey Chair Clean a dirty chair by gently rinsing with water and using a cloth to clean the sling if necessary Allow the chair to fully dry before storing Clean the sling periodically as dust and dirt will deteriorate the sling over time Always store your Coffey Chair out of direct sunlight Prolonged exposure to ultraviolet light may degrade
