Always familiarize yourself with the body of water you intend to navigate A WARNING Scout unfamiliar water Find out what hours boating is permitted if there are any known hazardous conditions and where to get help quickly if there is an emergency or accident Check tidal changes and currents specific to your location If you decide to go down rapids you need to scout in advance and if necessary portage your SUP to bypass unfamiliar or dangerous zones 10 Regulations and laws A CAUTION Always follow Coast Guard regulations and or boating and safety laws regulations and orders of various levels of government including regional Consult the Coast Guard and or authorities in various levels of government about the proper handling of a boat and required and or recommended equipment such as lighting and sound alarms 11 Drain plug A CAUTION Make sure the drain plug at the rear of the SUP is firmly in place before putting it in the water You may have to empty water that has accumulated due to condensation or seepage 12 Self protection A WARNING Wear appropriate safety gear If you choose to go down rapids you are voluntarily risking serious injury or death You must take the appropriate safety precautions inspect your equipment thoroughly and wear appropriate safety gear You should always wear a lifejacket a helmet and we strongly advise you to wear protection on your arms legs etc It is your responsibility

P 4 Sound signalling device ZA caution Always have a sound signalling device with you The Coast Guard or other government bodies require that boaters are equipped to alert other vessels to their presence If possible attach a device to your lifejacket 5 Ability A WARNING Do not exceed your ability Consult your physician before beginning your SUP training Realistically assess your physical stamina to determine how far and how long you can paddle or swim 6 Traction on the SUP ZA caution The hull material is extremely slippery when wet Stay within the traction zone to avoid slipping We recommend you wear non slip shoes for more traction This will also protect your feet when launching and if you walk on rocks 7 Hypothermia A WARNING Dress appropriately for weather conditions and if necessary wear a wetsuit Boating accidents in cold water are very dangerous Hypothermia the loss of body heat due to immersion in cold water can be fatal Survival time can be as little as 15 to 20 minutes in cold water 8 Be accompanied A CAUTION Never paddle alone It is always preferable to be accompanied on your outing in case of an emergency or accident You should know the level of physical ability of those paddling with you and relevant medical conditions associated with each of them Always tell someone your plans including your destination how long you ll be gone and how many people you ll be with 9
6. e board and changing positions to improve your balance The best way to make a quick turn with your board is to move your weight back The nose of the board will be out of the water and it will be much easier to turn If you paddle on a large body of water like a lake or ocean be sure to use a leash that connects you to your board If you fall your board could be pushed away from you leaving you alone in the water If you paddle on a river with a strong current do not use an ankle leash If you fall your board could drag you under the water and carry you down with the current Or the leash could get caught on something in the water rocks branches tree trunks etc and cause you to fall off your board Be careful in windy conditions Your body is completely exposed when standing up and strong winds can greatly affect your movements and push you off course Adopting a kneeling or sitting position when faced with such conditions can prevent the wind from affecting your course Never leave your board if you do not have a leash even if you lose your paddle You can always paddle with your hands which is an easier option than trying to swim back As well if the wind picks up and you are not on your board it can float away faster than you can swim to retrieve it This is why a leash is so important SAFETY PRECAUTIONS Read the information outlined below before using your SUP Failure to follow these warnings and precautions could re

8. ling position at any time if a hazardous situation presents itself e Keep your paddle in hand at all times Make sure the water is deep enough so that the fin will not scrape the bottom e Start by kneeling in the center and pressing your hands on both sides of the board for added stability Stand up one foot at a time use the paddle for balance When you feel comfortable start paddling forward MOORING DOCKING If you want to moor your SUP to a dock make sure that e jt is away from rocks or sharp objects the water is deep enough to avoid damaging the hull NOTE Never moor your SUP against a dock that is not equipped with hull protecting bumpers BASIC SUP PRINCIPLES Learn and practice basic skills on a calm lake Start slowly in open areas with few people around Take your SUP through rougher water only when you are confident about your abilities For maximum comfort make sure you have a paddle with a length that fits your size In general you should add 8 to 10 inches to your height to determine the length of the paddle For example if you are 5 feet 10 inches 70 inches tall your paddle should be 78 80 inches long You should stand in the center of the board when you paddle In calm water your feet should be positioned shoulder width apart and pointing forward In waves or rougher water you should move a foot towards the back of the board and assume a surfing position Practice moving your feet on th

11. register your warranty online at our website www pelicansport com or by mail by filling out and returning the registration card You can find the registration card in the center of this manual page 11 3 Manufacturer s Declaration of Origin Certain governments require a Manufacturer s Declaration of Origin to complete the registration The declaration is located in the center of this manual page 10 MATERIALS MANUFACTURING All Pelican SUP s are made of high density polyethylene If your SUP has a Ram X dome on it please read the information below regarding thermoformed Ram X products Your SUP is made of Ram X Its great flexibility offers exceptional shock resistance This flexibility increases with heat or with the craft s prolonged exposure to the sun but may also slightly warp the hull The warping disappears when the hull cools and never affects the craft s performance Ram X is a superior material that was developed and registered in 1978 It quickly became the benchmark of quality in the industry thanks to ts shock resistance and ability to regain its initial shape following an impact Widely hailed by consumers Ram X is a step above other materials used in the industry TRANSPORTATION Handles located on the SUP enable it to be easily carried by hand By hand e Carry the board by using handles located at the front rear or center depending on the model If necessary use a device to aid in
12. sult in serious injury or death Paddle sports can be dangerous and physically demanding Every person using an SUP built or sold by Pelican is personally responsible for determining if their abilities match the encountered conditions and should use their best judgment as to the time and place to use the SUP All individuals who use a Pelican SUP assume all risks and accept all responsibility for any damage or injury including death which may result from using or handling a SUP It is strongly recommended you take a course offered by an experienced instructor on proper paddling techniques boating security and first aid before practicing this sport 1 Weather conditions and water levels A WARNING Check weather conditions and water levels before heading out Never go out in conditions that could affect your ability to steer the board including severe wind heavy rain thunderstorms flooding choppy water or strong currents If you re already on the water head to shore 2 Personal flotation device PFD A WARNING Always wear a U S Coast Guard and or government approved life jacket PFD Before you start to paddle read the manufacturer s documentation about the lifejacket and familiarize yourself with how to properly wear it 3 Alcohol and drugs A WARNING Never use or consume alcohol drugs or any other mind altering substance that may affect your coordination judgement or ability to safely and securely operate your SU
13. the transport By vehicle Remove all accessories before transporting your SUP to avoid losing or damaging them e Before starting your vehicle ensure that the SUP is properly fastened using a transportation device on the roof of the vehicle or on a trailer e Itis recommended that you stop shortly after starting your trip to double check that all the connections are secure and the SUP will not move during transport During a trip in bad weather remember to regularly check the straps to ensure they do not lose tension after getting wet NOTE Avoid keeping the SUP firmly attached to your vehicle for an extended period of time particularly when exposed to the sun This could create distortions in the hull over time PRE LAUNCH CHECKLIST Always wear a proper personal flotation device PFD e Always have an emergency safety kit on hand that is required by applicable law whistle etc Verify that the hardware used to attach the SUP during transport has been removed Make sure the drain plug is securely in place and properly fastened if applicable Make sure the length of your paddle is adjusted according to your size see details described in Basic SUP Principles LAUNCHING PROCEDURE A WARNING Do not stand up on the SUP if there are objects nearby that present a falling hazard dock rocks etc Remain on your knees and use the paddle to move further away before standing up You can return to a knee
14. to have the proper equipment and familiarize yourself with the body of water before heading out A WARNING Never allow minors to use this board without adult supervision Never tow behind a boat Never use as a lifesaving device Never exceed the boat s maximum weight CARE AND MAINTENANCE The best way to clean your SUP is by using a mixture of mild soap and warm water Do not use abrasives Periodic cleaning will keep your boat looking like new Never try to paint your SUP because paint will not adhere to the hull NOTE Do not remove the flotation foam installed in some models STORAGE Empty any water that has accumulated inside the board Water may accumulate between the hull and the deck as a result of condensation This is not a defect To drain the water remove the drain plug on some models and place the SUP on its stern in an upright position It is strongly recommended that you clean your SUP before storage by rinsing it with lukewarm water to preserve its mint condition The SUP can be temporarily stored on its side or in an upright position Storing it in either of these positions for an extended period of time could cause a flattening or deformation of the hull The best way to store your SUP is to place it on a flat surface Never store it on sawhorses or leave it resting on its fin for a long period of time Do not leave straps or ropes tightly wound around the hull for extended periods especiall
