31. e you can save load the game state and change the rendering settings Below is a description of each setting Quick Save Quickly saves the game state to RAM not to the memory card State Quick Load Quickly loads the game state from RAM State Save State Compresses the game state and saves to the selected memory card Load State Loads the game state for the game currently being played Reposition Enter screen repositioning mode Screen Renderer Changes the rendering engine in game Region Changes the region setting in game However this will only come into effect after a soft reset Soft Reset Resets emulation of the current game vi Be careful what you play You can legally download and play what are known as Public Domain ROMs These are games and demos written by amateur or freelance programmers who make their work available for free They are completely legal to download own play and distribute Many older games have become known as abandonware The loose definition is software for a console that is no longer manufactured but this does not necessarily mean it s legal to download and play these titles Many of the intellectual properties contained within these games have gone on to newer formats and in many cases the rights have been sold to other companies The general rule is to make sure what you download is either public domain ie can be freely distributed or has been truly abandoned ie officially made av
32. e you have inserted If this is the case you will find that when prompted to find the game in AR MAX s game list you will not be able to find it If this happens then you will need to get hold of some new AR MAX codes for this game Check out Section 2c for information on how to do this 2 Action Replay has codes for your game but does not recognize your disc This may happen because you are using a slightly different version of the game than the one Action Replay was programmed to recognize If this is the case you may find that you can re associate your disc with the game in AR MAX s game list by doing the following Once AR MAX has finished reading the disc you will be taken to the Expert Mode game select screen Highlight the game s name in the list if you can find it then press X From here you will be taken to the Code Select screen for that game Enable some codes for the game then play it refer to Section 2d part iii Hopefully you ll find that these codes work on your version of the game so you will be able to use these codes in the future AR MAX will remember which game you linked your disc to and will take you straight to that game in future If you find that the game codes do not work for the game that you linked to or that you linked to the wrong game by mistake next time AR MAX takes you directly to the codes for the game you linked to simply press Circle on your controller to return to the Game S

34. erted file will still display as having an orange status Red The file may play on your PS2 in its current state Conversion is strongly recommended Blank The file format is not recognised by MAX Media Creator as a type that will play using AR MAX To convert a file so that it will play using AR MAX simply click on the Convert button beside it The Output Conversion window will appear Depending on the file format you re converting some of the options in the Output Conversion window may be greyed out Here is an explanation what each option does Constant Bit Rate The audio bit rate options are as follows Low 64 kbps 48000 Hz smaller file size lower audio quality Medium 128 kbps 48000 Hz average file size good audio quality High 256 kbps 48000 Hz larger file size best audio quality In video files you can set the audio quality to Constant or Variable Bit Rate Screen Sizes applies only to video files eg AVI MPEG etc Low 384 x 256 pixels Medium 512 x 384 pixels High 640 x 480 pixels Once you ve made your selection click on Convert to continue or Close to cancel the operation When you click on Convert a new PS2 compatible file will be created at the destination displayed in the Output Filename window A progress bar will appear and once the task has completed you will be returned to the main screen Before you burn media that can be played on your PS2 you must select an option
