6. d and a grounded receptacle at the other end in to which the MediaVise Compact is plugged The maximum current that the MediaVise Compact draws is 13 amps at 120 volts To determine the minimum American Wire Gauge AWG size for the length of the extension cord needed for your application please refer to an AWG Rating Chart for Extension Cords or consult a qualified Electrician As a temporary measure you may use a 12 AWG or heavier duty grounded extension cord for distances up to 25 feet Bear in mind that an extension cord should never be used as a permanent means to connect your MediaVise Compact but only until the machine can be relocated closer to a wall receptacle or until a new receptacle can be installed closer to the machine Phiston Technologies Inc e 305 517 1744 e www Phiston com MediaVise Compact Digital Media Sanitizer User Manual 2 4 Other Electrical Safety Guidelines Periodically check power cords for any signs of overheating If the plugs receptacles or power cords being used with your MediaVise Compact feel hot to the touch immediately turn off the machine disconnect from the wall receptacle and contact a qualified electrician to determine the cause of overheating Always take appropriate steps to ensure that power cords and or extension cords do not present a trip or fall hazard Replace damaged or frayed cords immediately Damaged cords increase the risk of electrical shock and fire This machine is a pote
7. e machine on standby Close the feed door after 5 seconds The MediaVise Compact will then go directly into a reverse cycle This will cancel the crush cycle and reverse the system dropping your media out of the crushing cavity 8 2 3 Power Breaker During the crush cycle set the power breaker to Off Switch the power breaker back to Reset and the MediaVise Compact will go directly into a reverse cycle This will cancel the crush cycle and reverse the system dropping your media out of the crushing cavity NOTE If the reverse cycle was not initiated before the crushing plates made contact with your storage device then your storage device may have been damaged and therefore the functionality of your device cannot be guaranteed 9 Ejecting Stuck Debris from the Crushing Cavity Occasionally after a hard drive or other device has been crushed in the crushing cavity of the MediaVise Compact debris may become lodged in the cavity and may not readily fall into the debris collection drawer at the end of a crush or reverse cycle To eject the stuck debris perform the procedures outlined below 1 Turn the power switch to the Ready position to turn on the MediaVise Compact NOTE Ensure that the feed door is shut 2 Runa reverse cycle by following the steps outlined in section 8 Canceling Reversing a Crush Cycle on page 15 The device should drop into the collection drawer at the end of the reverse cycle 3 I
8. e should only be placed on a sturdy level surface capable of bearing its weight plus any other objects or forces that might be placed on the surface For the MediaVise Compact alone we recommend a table desk or other sturdy surface capable of safely supporting at least 200 Ibs on a continuous basis In case the MediaVise Compact must be repacked for shipping carefully place the unit back into the crate and replace the protective foam around the unit Close the crate by replacing the front and top panels and securely fastening them with screws Phiston Technologies Inc e 305 517 1744 e www Phiston com 9 3 MediaVise Compact Digital Media Sanitizer User Manual Installation Instructions 5 3 1 Inspect Your MediaVise Compact Your MediaVise Compact was thoroughly inspected and tested before leaving our factory Before Installing the MediaVise Compact inspect the unit for any parts that might have been damaged during shipping If there are any damaged or loose parts or if hydraulic fluid is leaking from the machine please immediately contact your dealer or Phiston Technologies Customer Service For more information refer to section 13 Customer Service on page 18 5 3 2 Where to Install Your MediaVise Compact After the inspection is completed place the MediaVise Compact in a location where it will have a minimum clearance of 3 in the back and on its sides No objects should obstruct the airflow through the sides or the back
9. et Phiston Technologies Inc e 305 517 1744 e www Phiston com MediaVise Compact Digital Media Sanitizer User Manual 6 Operating Instructions Place the power breaker in the back of the unit to the Reset position to initiate the MediaVise Compact The red power breaker light will illuminate when the MediaVise Compact is initiated Flip the power switch in the control panel to the Ready position to turn on the unit The green light will illuminate when the MediaVise Compact is ready for operation At this time it is safe to open the feed door and insert your media as is directed in section 7 Destroying Hard Drives and Other Media on page 14 NOTE Opening the feed door will disable the green light and place the MediaVise Compact on standby The green light will only turn on if the feed door is completely closed shut The unit will then be ready for operation WARNING Do not place magnetic tapes or other thermo plastic devices in the MediaVise Compact as they could melt under extreme pressure and foul the crushing chamber of the machine DANGER Explosion Hazard Remove all batteries from any device such as cell phones before they are put in the MediaVise Compact Failure to do so could result in a dangerous explosion lf you are unsure whether a device contains a battery DO NOT put it in the MediaVise Compact Once your media is inserted ensure that the feed door is closed and that the green light is lit Begin the c
10. ever use flammable liquids or solvents to clean the MediaVise Compact CAUTION Debris from destroyed objects may have sharp edges and as such should be handled with care Use the supplied collection drawer to safely dispose of destroyed devices and media Wear leather protective gloves and eye protection to prevent injuries from sharp edged particles and or parts when placing your hand inside the collection drawer or shrapnel that could become airborne if a crushed hard drive is accidentally dropped NOTE If your device or media fails to drop from the crushing cavity and into the collection drawer see section 9 Ejecting Stuck Debris from the Crushing Cavity on page 15 Should you find something wrong with your machine refer to section 11 Troubleshooting on page 17 If serious issues become apparent report them to Phiston Technologies Customer Service If the issues cannot be resolved you will be directed to a service representative in your area region for servicing or repair If none are available Phiston will provide further instructions on how to obtain service in your area For more information refer to section 13 Customer Service on page 18 11 Troubleshooting The hard drive is stuck in Follow the steps outlined in section 9 Ejecting Stuck Debris from the Crushing the crushing cavity Cavity on page 15 Do not run a crush cycle Hard drives that accumulate directly under the drop door may cause
11. fthe device still has not dropped into the collection then initiate a manual unjam procedure Insert the Unjam Handle supplied with your machine into the unjam port located on the right side of the MediaVise Compact Turn the Unjam handle clockwise until it doesn t turn any further By that point the stuck device debris should fall into the collection drawer If it does not then repeat the Phiston Technologies Inc e 305 517 1744 e www Phiston com MediaVise Compact Digital Media Sanitizer User Manual process Do not apply excessive force after the handle stops turning NOTE Ensure that the feed door is shut 4 In the case that the device did not fall into the collection bin following the previous steps run a crush cycle 5 Repeat process as necessary CAUTION In the event that the device is stuck only partly inside the crushing cavity and or is hanging partly out of the crushing cavity DO NOT follow step 4 of this section as this may cause damage to the machine Perform steps 2 and or 3 to resolve this issue NOTE The included unjam handle is an adjustable handle After inserting the handle into the manual unjam port the position of the handle can be adjusted Pull the handle outward and then twist it into the desired position until the handle sets into place CAUTION Turn the handle in a clockwise direction only Turning the handle counterclockwise could cause the unjamming procedure to malfunction and could cause permanen
12. ilted or moved about for extended periods Please refrain from moving the MediaVise Compact too often as it may cause the unit to leak hydraulic fluids If the MediaVise Compact has leaked an excessive amount of hydraulic fluid Contact your dealer or Phiston Customer Service so that your machine can be serviced The MediaVise Compact will often produce different sounds depending on the Stage of a crush or reverse cycle A constant humming noise during a cycle will denote the MediaVise Compact e hydraulic power and an applied 40 000 pounds of force If a user inserts media into the unit and begins a crush cycle cracking and popping noises may be heard These sounds will be apparent when the users media is being crushed and destroyed Furthermore the MediaVise Compact will occasionally create a buzzing noise when media is being dropped from the crushing cavity and into the collection drawer If you feel the MediaVise Compact is make sounds that are not normal call Phiston Customer Service lf the MediaVise Compact does not turn on follow these procedures Check that the power breaker in the back of the MediaVise Compact is set in the Reset position Check that the power switch in the control panel is set in the Ready position Make sure that the feed door is fully closed Make sure that the unit is properly plugged in Ensure that the fuse located under the fan on the back of the unit has not been ejected from its seated posit

21. o the MediaVise Compact Loading more than one device or media may overload the crushing cavity and could cause potential damage to the MediaVise Compact and or the operator WARNING Lithium lon batteries commonly used in cellular phones may explode during a crushing operation Remove all batteries from devices before inserting them into the MediaVise Compact CAUTION Always use caution when loading and unloading any items into the MediaVise Compact Phiston Technologies Inc e 305 517 1744 e www Phiston com MediaVise Compact Digital Media Sanitizer User Manual 8 Canceling Reversing a Crush Cycle If you placed an incorrect media into the unit s crushing cavity or would like to remove the media from the crushing cavity for any reason use the following steps to safely remove the media 8 1 Method 1 Reverse Cycle Press the Crush button and then quickly press and hold the Reverse button for at least 3 seconds This will cancel the crush cycle and reverse the system dropping your media out of the crushing cavity 8 2 Method 2 Power Off 8 2 1 Power Switch During the crush cycle set the power switch to Standby Set the power switch back to Ready and the MediaVise Compact will go directly into a reverse cycle This will cancel the crush cycle and reverse the system dropping your media out of the crushing cavity 8 2 2 Feed Door During the crush cycle open the feed door This will automatically set th
