5. ation DESCRIPTION OF THE BATTERIES 1 Contact pins 2 Centring tabs 3 Rating plate Description ofthe Batteries 11 FITTING AND REMOVING FITTING Follow the following steps very carefully 1 Attachthe first battery to the side of the point Ensure the the centring tabs and contact pins are fitted properly 2 Press the battery down onto the point in the direction of the arrow until it locks into place 8 Fit the second battery to the other side of the device IMPORTANT The point will only work without mains power if both batteries are fitted 12 Fitting and Removing REMOVING Follow the following steps very carefully 1 Pull the first powerpackpoint battery on the side of the point outwards until you can feel resistance 2 Remove the battery downwards from the point in the direction of the arrow Remove the second powerpackpoint battery on the other side of the device Fitting and Removing 13 USING THE BATTERIES Do not expose the batteries to any unnecessary vibrations Only charge the batteries at ambient temperatures of between 10 C and 35 C The charging procedure is based on a chemical reaction Too low a temperature adversely affects the reaction whereas too high a tem perature prevents full charging Store batteries in a cool dry place Excessively long exposure to high temperatures accelerates the natural discharging process and shortens the service life The opti
6. mum charging condition for storage is between 50 and 75 When storing for an extended period the batteries should however be fully charged every 6 months to prevent total discharge If they are not being used store the batteries in their original packaging 14 Using the Batteries Press ON OFF 25 May 89m 12 28 COMMISSIONING NOTICE Charge the batteries fully before you use the point for the first time in battery mode With fully charged batteries the point respiratory therapy device can be operated for approx 8 hours The actual operating time depends however onthe parameters set IMPORTANT The therapy air cannot be humidified in battery mode CHARGING THE BATTERIES To charge the batteries install them in the point as described on page 12 Charging begins as soon as the point is connected to the mains and is in standby mode You will know they are charging by a flashing battery symbol on the display Using the Batteries 15 The charging progress is shown as follows i flat 25 charged a 50 charged a 75 charged 100 charged When the batteries are completely charged 100 the battery symbol stops flashing and remains on It takes approximately 5 hours to charge flat batteries TURNING THE POINT ON AND OFF IN BATTERY MODE Press the ON OFF key to switch the point on To switch the device off press and hold the ON OFF key for more than 3 seconds IMPORTANT In battery mode

8. ture is during charging 10 C to 35 C operation 5 C 40 when being stored 20 C to 50 The lower the ambient temperature is the longer it will take to charge the batteries New batteries only reach their full capacity after three to four charging or discharging cycles If you do not know the charge level of the batteries charge them completely Safety Information 9 INTENDED USE The powerpackpoint consists of 2 lithium ion batteries and is intended as an independent power supply for use with the point respiratory therapy device The point is a respiratory therapy device for treating obstructive sleep apnea syndrome OSAS in patients weighing more than 30 kg Range of application for powerpackpoint 1 Travel mode In travel mode the point only uses batteries to provide power The battery capacity allows the device to be used for approx 8 hours After this time the point must be connected to the mains power supply to charge the batteries see page 15 2 Power failure back up The power failure back up guarantees reliable operation without loss of treatment in areas where there are fre quent power failures If the power supply fails the point switches automatically to battery mode without any break in treatment When the power supply is restored the point switches back automatically to mains power and the batteries are charged again in standby mode 10 Safety Inform
