The powerPACK can NOT be used to charge any batteries inside the device even rechargeable batteries will not be charged This feature prevents overheating or even explosion of non rechargeable batteries Make sure to charge rechargeable batteries outside the identiFINDER with an external charging unit A The device cannot be used without batteries and just connected to the mains supply This will cause wrong dose rate values and Identification results Please make sure to have a battery pack inserted at any times User s Manual 11 identiFINDER target systemelectronic gmbh All rights reserved 2 Start of the Instrument After charging the powerPACK plus for at least 12 hours see chapter 1 and 11 2 the device can be operated To switch on the instrument press the ON OFF button until the red and blue alarm LEDs illuminate Soon the display will show the initialization screen Figure 4 y TA za target insight Figure 4 identiFINDER startup screen After start up Figure 4 the energy calibration of the identiFINDER starts Figure 6 Within about 20 seconds the high voltage and the fine gain will be adjusted according to the measured gamma ray spectrum of the calibration source i e Cs 137 A successful calibration ends with a message and the display of fine gain and HV values If the calibration cannot be finished correctly an error message shows up The device can then not be operated correctly
7. 11 3 Replacing the powerPACK plus battery pack To replace the powerPACK plus Switch off the identiFINDER Turn the screw battery pack lock on the battery lid anti clockwise until the lid can be removed Figure 53 it is not necessary to unscrew the lock completely Shift off the handle towards the back side of the device Take the powerPACK plus out of the handle and replace it with a new one Do not open the powerPACK plus With the additional powerPACK you need 4 AA size batteries When re assembling the instrument AN Make sure that the powerPACK plus is in the correct position and orientation as shown in Figure 53 Make sure that the lid fits tight and that the housing is closed accurately and the screw fixed Connect the power supply in order to re charge the powerPACK plus check the LEDs on the back side of the device At least the green LED should light up indicating the external power connection The batteries are not fully charged on reception of the Instrument Batteries have to be inserted into the identiFINDER and the device has to be connected to power supply before operation for at least 12 hours Do not open the powerPACK plus The warranty will be void if seal is broken User s Manual 75 identiFINDER target systemelectronic gmbh AI rights reserved Figure 51 target s battery pack powerPACK plus 11 4 Replacing the powerPACK or inserting standard batteries To replace

Only nuclides can be identified which belong to the selected data base Possible settings are Secur library for security applications Customs library for customs authorities OSI library for On Site Inspection Nuclear library for nuclear industry and nuclear research facilities Medical library for medical applications and Indust library for industrial applications Depending on what library is selected different isotopes will be available for identification Each of these libraries can be modified except the OSI library The modification is carried out in the display Edit Isotope List Edit Isotope List All stored nuclide references are listed with the normal field of appearance ie OSL for On Site Inspection Nuc for nuclear isotopes Med for isotopes used in therapy or diagnosis Ind for industrial and NORM for Natural Occurring Radioactive Material in front the isotope name and its mass except for special entries e g Annih Rad for annihilation radiation spectrum plus the libraries which inherit this isotope By using DOWN or UP each individual entry can be marked for making changes with SELECT Each press of User s Manual c ps identiFINDER target systemelectronic gmbh All rights reserved SELECT toggles through all combinations of library possibilities The abbreviations stand for Q N OSI AN Nuclear M Medical To exit t

36. erved 8 3 USB Connection Use a miniUSB to miniUSB cable to connect the interface box with the device Connect the USB to USB cable to a USB port of the PC and the other side to the interface box Additionally the power supply can be but does not necessary have to be connected between mains socket and interface box The operating system will detect a new USB device and try to install two separate drivers Please have the installation CD prepared when connecting the identiFINDER to the USB port of the PC for the first time Installing the driver for the Interface box Connect the interface box to your PC USB port and insert the software CD into your CD ROM drive Click Next when you are supposed to search for driver recommended and choose your CD ROM drive Accept the driver that was found ftdibus inf If necessary browse to the directory of your CD Finish the first part of the installation Now a second INF file will be installed ftdiportinf Follow the instructions on the screen accordingly Changing the COM port number of a USB port From Device manager select view devices by type then Ports COM and LPT Select the USB serial port and click Properties Select the Port Settings tab and then click Advanced Choose the required COM port number from the list and click OK i If a modem is attached to the USB serial port when the port number is changed it will continue to work under the new port number

42. iation gamma dose dose rate alarms or optional neutron alarms DOSE FINDER and IDENT modes The EASY USER MODES are the standard modes for non expert users They provide sufficient information to observe the local radiation level to detect any increase of the radiation level due to radioactive sources or contaminations to localize and to classify these sources Any increase of the local gamma or neutron radiation field which may be harmful to health or giving hints on terrorist activities is indicated immediately by the corresponding alarms acoustic visible and vibration alarm signals To obtain very detailed information in case of emergency or to change parameters and settings of the identiFINDER the device must be switched to the EXPERT USER MODES This is done by pressing the right button OPTIONS in the DOSE or the FINDER screen However the EXPERT USER MODES can be protected by a password if required The EXPERT USER MODES allow accessing various menu screens Many parameters like alarm thresholds times for identification units e g Sievert and rem and the language of the user interface can be changed The EXPERT USER MODES also provide for a spectrum display A detailed description of these features is not addressed here but is given in the corresponding chapters of the EXPERT USER s MANUAL User s Manual Te identiFINDER target systemelectronic gmbh All rights reserved 4 The DOSE Rate Mode The DOSE rate
