Click    OK    to continue and then restart the copier      58 Revision 0   May  2014    Data Type Specific Notes    This section will detail some information related to specific data types    DCON RCON  While DCON and RCON data is actually being flashed  during either the Flash or Download Shell  process  it is important to NOT power cycle the copier  When these data types are transferred  they will require  additional restarts of the copier  These restarts will be performed automatically as necessary  If the copier was started  in Download Mode C  there will be no way for the Service Support Tool to determine the currently installed versions   In this case the data will be transferred and the FDIMMs flashed  If the versions were the same or higher  they will be  flashed to the version transferred with no warning screens being displayed  In Download Mode E  warning screens  will be displayed as necessary  On some models it is not possible to flash DCON RCON in Download Mode C  A  message will be displayed in the Service Support Tool indicating an improper Download Mode     G3 Fax    The G3 Fax data behaves a little differently than the general process described here  First  the G3 Fax data can  ONLY be flashed when in Download Mode E  If an attempt is made to flash in Download Mode C  the data transfer  will freeze at 99  and will never complete  Also  not all fax boards will have the ability to be flashed   check the  Device Specific Notes section to confirm if a given fa

Color imageRUNNER  imagePRESS  Color imagePRESS     and Color Laser Copiers will contain Flash Dual In Line Memory Modules  FDIMM   Each of these modules   number  function  and location depends on the particular copier model  contain firmware providing machine specific  functions and instructions  As such  each module can be updated in the field using the Service Support Tool as bug  fixes and or new features are added to the copier  Upgrading the modules is known as Flashing     Additionally  certain models will have the functionality of being able to also have the BootROM  DCON and RCON  flashed with this tool as well as downloading System  RUI  MEAPCONT  Key  SDICT  TTS  Browser  ASR   WebDAV  Media  Help and Language Files to a Hard Drive  Some models will also need this tool to perform HD    formatting on new  blank  service part Hard Drives     Backup  Restore Ram Data   Each copier is adjusted at the factory  and its adjustment values are recorded on the service label  If replacing any  PCBs with FDIMMs attached or initializing RAM  the corresponding values will be affected  Using the Service  Support Tool a backup file can be created and saved on the PC  Once the PCB has been replaced  the RAM backup  file can then be restored to the copier  and its factory setting restored  Various other user settings stored on these  PCBs may also be backed up and restored when required  Note  It is unnecessary to backup  restore RAM data when  upgrading Firmware     Obtaining Sof

If a Batch Registration is performed  any  rec files  found while searching will also be processed automatically  However  if an individual data file is registered off of a  System Software CD  the  rec file on the CD will NOT be automatically processed   it MUST be registered manually     Potential indicators of out dated maintenance tables are as follows   1  A Run Time error can occur when using the ALL or ALL_HDF files   2  The listing shown when flashing via    Single    is shorter than expected and or missing desired versions     NOTE  Previously  v3 21   there was an issue with the maintenance tables and uninstalling reinstalling the Service  Support Tool  If the Service Support Tool is uninstalled  the FirmID and VerFilter files in the installation folder will  be deleted  The second set of files will still be in the ServTool folder  These files will be overwritten once the Service  Support Tool is started after reinstallation  To retain any modifications made to these files  copy the FirmID mtb and  VerFilter mtb files from the ServTool folder to the Service Support Tool installation folder AFTER the Service  Support Tool is reinstalled but BEFORE the Service Support Tool is launched for the first time  If this is not done  and the files are overwritten back to the defaults  the  rec files for the appropriate models can be re registered to  update them again  This has been corrected starting with v3 22  It is NOT necessary to copy the two  mtb files when  uninstalli

45. be created  If a HDD is replaced or formatted  make sure to flash the  SDICT component back onto the new  or newly formatted  HDD  This file is included on a unit from the factory     Browser  BROWS  Data Type    A new data file type will be included on certain CUSA distributed System Software CDs  This is a data type called     Browser     This type will first be released for the imageRUNNER 5570 6570 models  This file contains the necessary  software for the Web Access Software option  This is a purchasable option enabled via the LMS  License  management System   If the Browser data is not on the HDD  then this option will not function  If a HDD 1s  replaced or formatted  make sure to flash the Browser component back onto the new  or newly formatted  HDD   This file is included on a unit from the factory     TTS Data Type  A new data file type will be included on certain CUSA distributed System Software CDs  This is a data type called       TTS     This type will first be released for the imageRUNNER 5570 6570 models  TTS files contain the data  necessary to utilize the Voice Guidance Kit option  Currently  these files are available for Japanese and English  If no  TTS files are located on the HDD  then this option will not function  If the appropriate TTS file is not on the HDD   based on the LCD display language  then English will be used  If a HDD 1s replaced or formatted  make sure to flash  the TTS component s  back onto the new  or newly formatted  HDD  These files ar
46. be exported via the RUI as well  This data will  also be needed when the HDD is formatted or replaced    8  If the optional SDL or SSO are being used as the login service  it is recommended to switch to default  authentication prior to performing the backup function  Although the SDL user information will be backed up by  this procedure  it is recommended to also export the user information via the User Management page   http    lt device IP address gt  8000  sd     9  If an HDD from a system using SDL or SSO is formatted without first changing the login service to default  authentication  an error message will be displayed      The login service must be set again with SMS      and the  system will not be able to start up  If this occurs  change the login service to SDL or SSO  whatever was in use  prior to formatting  with SMS  If the IP Address of the system is unknown  start the copier in Fixed IP mode   start up with 1 and 7 keys held down  and use the service IP address of 172 16 1 100 to access the SMS     USB Parallel Cable   Starting with v1 81 the USB Parallel Cable  FY9 4154 000  may be used  This is the ONLY USB Parallel Cable that  will function with the Service Support Tool  Additionally  the driver for the cable MUST be installed for the cable to  function  Refer to the instructions in the USB Parallel Cable Driver Installation item located in the Installation Setup  Instructions section for driver installation information  The USB Parallel Cable is supported on
47. below            lt 2 Gownload shell   nguage en  y Uparading complete  FRUI ja _   Upgrading complete    RUI en Upgrading complete      Switch OFF the power cra ON         After this reboot  the copier will start normally     Process    ROM based models     Since ROM based models do NOT have a HDD  the process works differently than that described in the previous  section  Refer to the Device Specific Notes section to identify such machines  For these devices  there are still two  methods of entering Download Mode  As described in the Device Specific Notes section  these are Download Mode  C and Download Mode E  Download Mode C is entered by holding the 2 amp 8 keys down while starting the device   Download Mode E is entered by holding down the 1 amp 7 keys while starting the device and then entering Download  Mode through Service Mode  Both of these will result in the copier having a similar display on the LCD  The display  for Download Mode C is shown below        The display for Download Mode E is shown below        48 Revision 0   May  2014    Despite the copier having a similar visual appearance on the LCD  there are differences between Download Mode C  and Download Mode E when working with these devices  The differences will be observed based on what items can  be flashed  what items are available for uploading and downloading  Backup Data   and whether items being flashed  can check currently installed versions  During the normal flashing process data cannot be transf

51. d install the data  After  this is complete  the final restart will need to be done manually as usual     Upgrade  Overwrite all     This option behaves identically to the Upgrade  w Confirmation  described previously except that no message will be  displayed if a data item is older or the same as the currently installed item on the copier  All data on the USB Memory  Device will be transferred over and installed  It will also follow the same system of manual restarts described for    Upgrade  w Confirmation      Format HDD Format HDD  ALI     The format function is only available in Safe Mode  To format individual partitions  as would normally be done in  Normal Mode  utilize Service Mode on the copier  This is described in the Device Specific Notes section   In Safe Mode  this function will be either    Format HDD    or    Format HDD  ALLY  The difference will be whether  the HDD in the copier is a just installed service part HDD or not  If the HDD has just been installed  the    Format  HDD  ALL     option will be available  This will do a complete format and partitioning of the new HDD     79 Revision 0   May  2014    If the HDD has been previously prepared  i e  formatted in the copier via this method ot the Service Support Tool    the    Format HDD    option will be the one available  This will allow formatting of the BOOTDEYV partition  When  this option is selected  the following will appear to allow the selection of the partition  if this command is used in  Normal M
