1. ock exotica GEA FOR E AXIS 2 20 2014 AZTEK Safety Notice in regards to the Sterling Rope 8mm Edge Restraint Sterling Rope has notified Rock Exotica that the 8mm Edge Restraint SRER with the sewn eye has been voluntarily recalled e In batch tests at Sterling some cord was found to break below the published MBS of 17 5KN e We have provided a copy of the Sterling Rope Recall and lot numbers that are affected e 8mm cord with sewn eye termination made after May 2013 is being recalled This includes the 8mm Edge Restraint in the AZTEK kit The AZTEK system e Safe Working Load SWL of the AZTEK system with a one person load is 3kN without a one person load it is SKN e Published Minimum Breaking Strength MBS for 8mmEdge Restraint is 17 5kKN e Ina4 1 mechanical advantage system provided by the AZTEK using the 6mm Ratchet or prusik the maximum weight on the sewn eye attached to becket is 1 3 of the total force on the Aztek System o For example if the maximum SWL of 3kN is applied on the Aztek that would be the equivalent of a resulting 1kN force on the Edge Restraint Sewn eye e EN 795 1996 requires anchors to have an MBS of 10kN Therefore Edge Restraint must hold 3 33kN that is far below the rope and sewn eye strength Rock Exotica Break Test of the SR 8mm Edge Restraint e Tested several samples of Sterling Rope Edge restraint in house e None broke below 12kN therefore we do not believe the strength of the AZTEK syst2. em is affected and is within the specified MBS of the user manual Recommendation e Check the lot number on the 8mm Edge Restraint cord in your system against the lot numbers in Sterling s Recall notice If your cord was purchased before May 2013 it is not in this recall e All US and non CE customer should contact the dealer they purchased the ATEK from or Sterling Rope for replacement rope as soon as possible e European Customers within the CE countries need to contact the local distributor to replace your entire system e If you are adhering to the AZTEK manual and keeping under SWL you can use the AZTEK system until you receive replacement rope e As always do not use AZTEK or any other gear above the SWL P O Box 160470 PHONE 801 728 0630 rock exotica Freeport Center Bldg F 11 FAX 801 728 0667 Clearfield UT 84016 http www rockexotica com USA
