9. the following Discussion Pictorial 2 shows a typical disk drive The disk drives in your unit may look slightly different Diskette Load Slot Insert diskettes in this slot with the label up and toward you as shown in the Pictorial If the diskette is not oriented as shown the unit will not operate properly and you may damage the diskette and or the disk drive If the diskette meets resistance while you are inserting it into the drive check to make sure that there is not a diskette already in the drive It should slide smoothly into the drive Disk Drive Latch This latch secures the diskette in the disk drive Closing the latch engages the drive hub into the diskette and brings the read write heads into contact with the disk surface If the latch shuts with difficulty remove the diskette inspect the large center hole for damage check for proper diskette orientation see the previ ous description and try again NOTE Many types of disk drives are equipped with a locking system that prevents the latch from being closed if there is no diskette in serted in the drive This is to prevent possible damage to the read write heads Be sure there is a diskette inserted in the disk drive before trying to close the latch LED Disk Access Indicator This LED indicates that the Computer is attempting to read from or write to the diskette The read write operation will be successful only if the diskette is inserted properly and the disk
