5. machine is now ready for use 2 2 ASSEMBLING THE MILK FROTHING ACCESSORY IMPORTANT Assemble all components of the manual milk frothing accessory as shown in fig A leaving no space between components Take special care to ensure that the O ring seal on the black plastic tip 12b is inserted all the way into the Stainless Steel Tube 12a and threaded onto the pipe from the machine 2 3 USING YOUR COFFEE MACHINE FOR THE FIRST TIME Priming the system When you use this appliance for the first time the pipes inside the machine may not yet be filled with water The machine will display the symbol circle with arrow upon powering up The steam hot water knob 11 must be set to 0 23 After turning the machine On with the on off button 2 the symbol circle with arrow will appear on the display 1 2 3 0 the steam hot water knob 11 clockwise to the right At this point the system will begin to pump and fill with water Water will start to flow out of the nozzle 12 23 Once the symbol circle with arrow begins to flash turn the knob 11 anti clockwise back to the 0 position 10 23d the machine has heated up to the correct temperature the Service button 7 will start flashing 2 3 the Service button 7 to rinse the system out through the coffee dispensing nozzle 8 Important This rinsing step cannot be left out as no other function will operate until this cycle h
6. 2 cup selector 6 Important If the machine should run out of water or coffee beans between the two cups or if the trays need emptying a signal will appear and the second cup of coffee will not be made Follow the instructions to top up the machine and press only the 1 cup selector 5 to make the second cup of coffee 3 5 BREWING WITH PRE GROUND COFFEE 35a Firstturn the water quantity control knob 3 to the desired quantity of water for one cup 3 50 Open the lid to access the ground coffee compartment 20 The symbol POWDER will flash on the display 1 3 5 Fill with one level measuring scoop 23 of ground coffee and close the lid The symbol POWDER will appear on the display 3 5 Place one cup under the coffee dispensing nozzle 8 and press the 1 cup button 5 Note If you unintentionally open the ground coffee compartment and do not press the coffee button after putting ground coffee into it the machine will automatically perform a rinsing cycle through the coffee dispensing nozzle 8 one minute after the lid is closed and will then be ready for use again Important The Pre Ground compartment 20 15 not a coffee storage compartment N ever put more than one scoop 23 into it and use only freshly ground or vacuum packed coffee Do not use instant coffee Y ou can make instant coffee in the cup by drawing hot water from the nozzle 12 3 6 DRAWING HOT WATER 3 6 Place a cup under the nozzle

8. ready for use again 31 e The Service button 7 may carry on flashing If this happens press the button 7 once to conduct another short rinse cycle through the coffee outlets 8 this is normal The system will now be ready for filtered water use 32 5 1 CLEANING PROGRAMME IMPORTANT This program is intended solely for cleaning the coffee dispenser assembly It is not the L ime Scale Removal program IMPORTANT Please follow these steps to the letter The cleaning program cannot be interrupted once it has started The cleaning program thoroughly cleans all dispensing assemblies removing coffee residues and oily deposits which can build up and block up the machine To run the program use the special X presso Cleaning Tablets available through X presso Direct 66 2 906 8118 When the machine requires a clean the symbol Tablet will appear on the display and the service button 7 will flash RECOMMENDATION Start the Cleaning cycle only when you want to perform the clean Y ou may continue making coffee hot water and steam but we recommend you perform the cleaning cycle promptly 33 5 2 Press the Service button 7 for about two seconds The symbol drip tray will begin to flash 5 2 6 Remove the drip tray 9 and the water reservoir 17 and clean those thoroughly using only water 5 2 Fill the Water Reservoir 17 with cold water and re assemble and insert drip trays 9 back into the mac
9. the result of a roasting process Darker coffee beans have been roasted for a longer time at a higher temperature and more aromatic than lighter coffee beans There are many different types of coffee available on the market containing blends of beans roasted at different temperatures with different types of aroma There is also decaffeinated coffee containing only 2 caffeine Try using different types of coffee with your espresso machine to fine tune the flavor and aroma that best suits your taste Ideally coffee beans should be ground just before using them Remember that your coffee MUST BE GROUND FOR PUMP ESPRESSO MACHINES which means it must be ground quite finely It is good idea to Keep ground coffee in a hermetically sealed container as coffee easily absorbs odours USEFUL INFORMATION WATER QUALITY e IMPORTANT To prevent problems caused by lime scale build up it is important to use the machine with the optional water softening filter 25 Alternatively you may also use lime scale remover descaling tablets or the Lime O Powder available from X presso Direct 66 2 906 8118 as described in the section on the lime scale remover program If you decide to use the optional water softening filter follow the assembly instructions under the heading Filter assembly 2 OPERATIONAL START UP 2 1 PREPARING THE COFFEE MACHINE 21 Unpacking Carefully remove the machine and all accessories from the packag

20. as been completed automatically by the machine 2 3f The machine is now ready for use e RECOMMENDATION Place dish underneath the coffee dispensing nozzle 8 to collect water from the service rinse e You may rinse out the machine at any time during regular operation by pressing the service button 7 letting water flow through the coffee outlet 8 24 SETTING THE GRIND IMPORTANT The grinder may only be adjusted when the coffee grinder is in operation grinding coffee beans 2 4a The coffee grinder may be adapted to suit the roast of the coffee We recommend the medium setting for all roasts 2 4b Open the coffee bean container 18 lid 2 4 With the coffee grinder in operation turn the knob 19 to the desired position The smaller the dot next to the knob 19 the finer the grind Remember lightly roasted coffee usually requires a finer grind dark roasted coffee usually requires a coarser grind 3 PREPARATION NOTES e This machine has been pre tested ready to make its first cup of coffee We recommend that you re program the main settings to suit your individual preferences First of all follow the steps listed under the Programming heading to adjust the filter and water hardness settings e When using the appliance for the first time or if the appliance has not been used for some time the first coffee you make will not have perfect aroma and should be discarded 3 1 SELECTING COFFE
