1. 23 24 Never leave the treadmill unattended while it is running Always remove the key press the power switch into the off position see the drawing on page 5 for the location of the power switch and unplug the power cord when the treadmill is not in use Do not attempt to move the treadmill until it is properly assembled See ASSEMBLY on page 7 and HOW TO FOLD AND MOVE THE TREADMILL on page 25 You must be able to safely lift 45 Ibs 20 kg to raise lower or move the treadmill When folding or moving the treadmill make sure that the storage latch is holding the frame securely in the storage position Never insert any object into any opening on the treadmill Inspect and properly tighten all parts of the treadmill regularly 25 26 27 DANGER Always unplug the power cord immediately after use before clean ing the treadmill and before performing the maintenance and adjustment procedures described in this manual Never remove the motor hood unless instructed to do so by an authorized service representative Servicing other than the procedures in this manual should be performed by an authorized ser vice representative only The treadmill is intended for home use only Do not use the treadmill in any commercial rental or institutional setting Over exercising may result in serious injury or death If you feel faint or if you experience pain while exercising stop immediately and cool down

INTENSITY ic INCLINE MANUAL CONTROL A WARNING nanuctens ana mew o 1 STEP INCLINE FEATURES OF THE CONSOLE The treadmill console offers an impressive array of features designed to make your workouts more effec tive and enjoyable When you use the manual mode you can change the speed and incline of the treadmill with the touch of a button As you exercise the console will display instant exercise feedback You can even measure your heart rate using the handgrip heart rate monitor or the chest heart rate monitor In addition the console features thirty two onboard workouts eight calorie workouts eight incline workouts eight intensity workouts and eight speed workouts Each workout automatically controls the speed and incline of the treadmill as it guides you through an effective exercise session The console also features an iFit Live mode that enables the treadmill to communicate with your wire less network through an optional iFit Live module With the iFit Live mode you can download personal ized workouts create your own workouts track your workout results race against other iFit Live users and access many other features To purchase an iFit Live module at any time go to www iFit com or call the telephone number on the front cover of this manual 18 1STEP SPEED You can even listen to your favorite workout music or audio books

7. 1 1 4 Screws 107 that you removed in steps 9 Assembly and 10 Do not overtighten the Screws Tighten four 8 x 3 4 Screws 2 into the con sole assembly in the locations shown Note Some of the 8 x 3 4 Screws 2 are designed to go in at different angles Raise the Base Covers 82 83 and firmly tighten the four 3 8 x 2 3 4 Screws 7 first and then the 3 8 x 1 1 4 Screws 8 only one side is shown Then press the Base Covers into place 14 17 Raise the Frame 56 to the position shown Orient the Storage Latch 53 so that the large barrel and the latch knob are oriented as shown Attach the lower end of the Storage Latch 53 to the Base 94 with a 3 8 x 2 Bolt 3 and a 3 8 Nut 12 Attach the upper end of the Storage Latch 53 to the Frame 56 with a 3 8 x 1 3 4 Bolt 6 and a 3 8 Nut 12 Lower the Frame 56 see HOW TO LOWER THE TREADMILL FOR USE on page 25 18 Make sure that all parts are properly tightened before you use the treadmill If there are sheets of plastic on the treadmill decals remove the plastic To protect the floor or carpet place a mat under the treadmill Note Extra hardware may be included Keep the included hex keys in a secure place one of the hex keys is used to adjust the walking belt see pages 27 and 28 15 THE CHEST HEART RATE MONITOR HOW TO PUT ON THE HEART RATE MONITOR The heart rate monitor consists of a chest strap a
8. 110 105 95 90 20 30 40 50 60 70 80 To find the proper intensity level find your age at the bottom of the chart ages are rounded off to the near est ten years The three numbers listed above your age define your training zone The lowest number is the heart rate for fat burning the middle number is the heart rate for maximum fat burning and the highest number is the heart rate for aerobic exercise 29 Burning Fat To burn fat effectively you must exer cise at a low intensity level for a sustained period of time During the first few minutes of exercise your body uses carbohydrate calories for energy Only after the first few minutes of exercise does your body begin to use stored fat calories for energy If your goal is to burn fat adjust the intensity of your exercise until your heart rate is near the lowest number in your training zone For maximum fat burning exercise with your heart rate near the middle number in your training zone Aerobic Exercise If your goal is to strengthen your cardiovascular system you must perform aerobic exercise which is activity that requires large amounts of oxygen for prolonged periods of time For aerobic exercise adjust the intensity of your exercise until your heart rate is near the highest number in your training zone WORKOUT GUIDELINES Warming Up Start with 5 to 10 minutes of stretch ing and light exercise A warm up increases your body temperature heart rate

12. seg ment of the workout begins the treadmill will automatically adjust to the speed and incline settings for the next segment To stop the workout at any time press the Stop button The time will begin to flash in the display To resume the workout press the Start button or the Speed increase button The walking belt will begin to move at 1 mph When the next segment of the workout begins the treadmill will automatically adjust to the speed and incline settings for the next segment Follow your progress with the displays See step 5 on page 20 If you select an onboard workout the display will show the time remaining instead of the elapsed time Measure your heart rate if desired See step 6 on page 20 Turn on the fan if desired See step 7 on page 21 When you are finished exercising remove the key from the console See step 8 on page 21 22 HOW TO USE AN IFIT LIVE WORKOUT Note To use an iFit Live workout you must have an optional iFit Live module To purchase an iFit Live module at any time go to www iFit com or call the telephone number on the front cover of this man ual You must also have access to a computer with a USB port and an internet connection In addition you must have access to a wireless network including an 802 11b router with SSID broadcast enabled hidden networks are not supported An iFit com membership is also required 1 Insert the key into the console See HOW TO TURN ON THE PO
13. speed setting will change in increments of 0 5 mph Note After you press the button it may take a moment for the walking belt to reach the selected speed setting If you press one of the numbered 1 Step Speed buttons the walking belt will gradually change speed until it reaches the selected speed setting To select a speed setting that includes a decimal such as 3 5 mph press two numbered buttons in succession For example to select a speed setting of 3 5 mph press the 3 button and then immedi ately press the 5 button Note This will not function if the console is set to metric units To stop the walking belt press the Stop button The time will begin to flash in the display To restart the walking belt press the Start button or the Speed increase button Change the incline of the treadmill as desired To change the incline of the treadmill press the Incline increase or decrease button or one of the numbered 1 Step Incline buttons Each time you press one of the buttons the treadmill will gradually adjust to the selected incline setting Follow your progress with the displays As you walk or run on the treadmill the display can show the following workout information The elapsed time The distance that you have walked or run The workout intensity bar The approximate number of calories you have burned The incline level of the treadmill The number of vertical feet you have climbed The speed of th
14. suppressor that meets all of the specifications described on page 17 To purchase a surge suppressor see your local NORDICTRACK dealer call the telephone number on the front cover of this manual or see your local electronics store Failure to use a properly functioning surge suppressor could result in damage to the control system of the treadmill If the control system is damaged the walking belt may slow accelerate or stop unexpectedly which may result in a fall and serious injury Keep the power cord and the surge suppres sor away from heated surfaces Never move the walking belt while the power is turned off Do not operate the treadmill if the power cord or plug is damaged or if the treadmill is not working properly See TROUBLESHOOTING on page 26 if the tread mill is not working properly Read understand and test the emergency stop procedure before using the treadmill see HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER on page 19 Never start the treadmill while you are stand ing on the walking belt Always hold the handrails while using the treadmill The treadmill is capable of high speeds Adjust the speed in small increments to avoid sudden jumps in speed The heart rate monitor is not a medical device Various factors including the user s movement may affect the accuracy of heart rate readings The heart rate monitor is intended only as an exercise aid in determin ing heart rate trends in general 20 21 22

Handrail Insert 84 With the help of a second person hold the con sole assembly near the left handrail assembly B Route the Upright Wire 81 around the back of the console assembly as shown and insert the end of the Upright Wire through the indicated looped Cable Tie 99 Remove the two 8 x 1 1 4 Screws 107 and slide the Right Handrail Cover 80 back about 1 in The Screws will be reattached in step 16 Note It is not necessary to move the Right Handrail Insert 85 With the help of a second person hold the con sole assembly near the right handrail assembly C Make sure that the pulse wire E is inserted through the looped Cable Tie 99 on the right handrail assembly C Route the pulse wire E around the back of the console assembly as shown and insert the end of the wire through the other Cable Tie 99 Console Assembly 0 Console Assembly 11 11 12 Set the console assembly on the brackets on the Handrails 87 Be careful not to pinch any Console wires Assembly Attach the console assembly with the four 1 4 x 1 2 Screws 4 that you removed in step 8 and four 1 4 Star Washers 5 Start all four Screws and then tighten them Set the Console 103 onto the Console Base 64 Make sure that none of the wires from the Console are pinched Attach the Console 103 to the Console Base 64 with si

WER on page 19 Insert the iFit Live module into the console To insert the iFit Live module see the instructions included with the iFit Live module IMPORTANT To satisfy exposure compliance requirements the antenna and transmitter in the iFit Live module must be at least 8 in 20 cm from all persons and must not be near or connected to any other antenna or transmitter 3 Select a user If more than one user is registered you can switch users in the iFit Live main screen Press the increase and decrease buttons next to the Enter button to select a user Select an iFit Live workout To select an iFit Live workout press one of the iFit Live buttons Before some workouts will download you must add them to your schedule on www iFit com Press the iFit Live button to download the next workout in your schedule Press the My Trainer button the My Maps button the World Tour but ton or the Event Training button to download the next workout of that type in your schedule Press the Compete button to compete in a race that you have previously scheduled For more information about the iFit Live workouts please see www iFit com Note If there are no workouts of the selected type in your schedule the next work out in your schedule will be downloaded When you select an iFit Live workout the display will show the duration of the workout the distance you will walk or run and the approximate number of calories you will burn The

When the information mode is selected the following information will be shown The time display will show the total number of hours that the treadmill has been used The distance display will show the total number of miles or kilometers that the walking belt has moved The lower section of the display will show the status of an Fit Live module If an Fit Live mod ule is connected the display will show the words WIFI MODULE If a USB module is connected the display will show the words USB SD MODULE If no module is connected the display will show the words NO IFIT MODULE Select the optional screens While the information mode is selected the matrix will display several optional screens Press the decrease button next to the Enter button to select each of the following screens UNITS To change the unit of measurement press the Enter button To view distance in miles select ENGLISH To view distance in kilometers select METRIC DEMO The console features a display demo mode designed to be used if the treadmill is dis played in a store While the demo mode is turned on the console will function normally when you plug in the power cord press the power switch 24 into the reset position and insert the key into the console However when you remove the key the displays will remain lit although the buttons will not function If the demo mode is turned on the word ON will appear in the matrix To turn on or

24. display may also show the name of the workout If you select a com petition workout the display will count down to the beginning of the race Note Each iFit Live button can also run two demo workouts To use the demo workouts remove the iFit Live module from the console and press one of the iFit Live buttons Start the workout See step 3 on page 21 During some workouts the voice of a personal trainer will guide you through your workout You can select an audio setting for your personal trainer see THE INFORMATION MODE on page 24 To stop the workout at any time press the Stop button The time will begin to flash in the display To resume the workout press the Start button or the Speed increase button The walking belt will begin to move at the speed setting for the first segment of the workout When the next segment of the workout begins the treadmill will automatically adjust to the speed and incline settings for the next segment Follow your progress with the displays See step 5 on page 20 The My Trail tab will show a map of the trail you are walking or running or it will show a track and the number of laps you complete During a competition workout the Competition tab will show your progress in the race As you race the top line in the matrix will show how much of the race you have completed The other lines will show your top four competitors The end of the matrix represents the end of the race 23 7 M
25. dmill to the lowest setting The incline must be at the lowest set ting or you may damage the treadmill when you fold it to the storage position Next remove the key from the console and put it in a secure place When you are finished using the treadmill press the power switch into the off position and unplug the power cord IMPORTANT If you do not do this the treadmill s electrical components may wear prematurely HOW TO USE AN ONBOARD WORKOUT 1 Insert the key into the console See HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER on page 19 Select an onboard workout To select an onboard workout press the Calorie button the Incline button the Intensity button or the Speed button repeatedly until the desired work out appears in the display 21 When you select an onboard workout the display will show the duration of the workout and the name of the workout In addition a profile of the speed settings of the workout will appear in the matrix If you select a calorie workout the approximate num ber of calories you will burn will appear in the name of the workout Start the workout Press the Start button or the Speed increase button to start the workout A moment after you press the button the treadmill will automatically adjust to the first speed and incline settings of the workout Hold the handrails and begin walking Each workout is divided into segments One speed setting and one incline setting are programmed for eac

29. eadmill is properly grounded contact a qualified electrician Plug the power cord into a surge suppressor and plug the surge suppressor into an appropriate outlet that is properly installed and grounded in accordance with all local codes and ordinances The outlet must be on a 17 nominal 120 volt circuit capable of carrying 15 or more amps To avoid overloading the circuit do not plug other electrical devices except for low power devices such as cell phone chargers into the surge suppressor or into an outlet on the same circuit IMPORTANT The treadmill is not compat ible with GFCl equipped outlets and may not be compatible with AFCI equipped outlets Grounded Outlet Grounding Pin A temporary adapter may be used to connect the surge sup pressor to a 2 pole receptacle if a properly grounded outlet is not available The lug or wire extending from the adapter must be connected with a metal screw to a permanent ground such as a properly grounded outlet box cover Some 2 pole receptacle outlet box covers are not grounded Before using an adapter contact a quali fied electrician to determine whether the outlet box cover is grounded The temporary adapter should be used only until a properly grounded outlet can be installed by a qualified electrician CONSOLE DIAGRAM Mit y Compatible My Trainer Event Training

32. equipment can be damaged by sudden voltage changes in your home s power Voltage surges spikes and noise interfer ence can result from weather conditions or from other appliances being turned on or off To decrease the risk of damaging the treadmill always use a surge suppressor with the treadmill To purchase a surge suppressor see precaution 12 on page 3 Use only a surge suppressor that is UL 1449 listed as a transient voltage surge suppressor TVSS The surge suppressor must have a UL suppressed voltage rating of 400 volts or less and a minimum surge dissipation of 450 joules The surge suppressor must also be electri cally rated for 120 volts AC and 15 amps There must be a monitoring light on the surge suppressor to indi cate whether it is functioning properly Failure to use a properly functioning surge suppressor could result in damage to the control system of the treadmill and serious injury to users Plug in the Power Cord The treadmill must be grounded If it should malfunc tion or break down grounding provides a path of least resistance for electric current to reduce the risk of elec tric shock The treadmill power cord has a plug witha grounding pin see drawing 1 on this page A DANGER Improper connection of the power cord increases the risk of elec tric shock Do not modify the plug if it will not fit an outlet have a proper outlet installed by a qualified electrician If you are unsure whether the tr

34. h segment Note The same speed setting and or incline setting may be programmed for con secutive segments Current Segment During the workout the profiles on the speed and incline tabs will show your progress The flash ing segment of the profile represents the current segment of the workout The height of the flashing segment indicates the speed or incline setting for the current segment At the end of each segment a series of tones will sound and the next seg ment of the profile will begin to flash If a different speed and or incline setting is programmed for the next segment the speed and or incline setting will flash in the display to alert you and the treadmill will automatically adjust to the new speed and or incline setting The workout will continue in this way until the last segment of the profile flashes in the display and the last segment ends The walking belt will then slow to a stop Note The calorie goal is an estimate of the number of calories that you will burn during the workout The actual number of calories that you burn will depend on various factors such as your weight In addition if you manu ally change the speed or incline of the treadmill during the workout the number of calories you burn will be affected If the speed or incline setting is too high or too low at any time during the workout you can manu ally override the setting by pressing the Speed or Incline buttons however when the next
35. hen reinsert the key Measure your heart rate if desired Note If you use the handgrip heart rate moni tor and the chest heart rate monitor at the same time the console will not display your heart rate accurately For information about the chest heart rate monitor see page 16 Before using the handgrip heart rate moni tor remove the sheets of plastic from the metal contacts on the pulse bar In addition make sure that your hands are clean To measure your heart rate stand on the foot rails and hold the pulse bar with your palms on the metal contacts avoid moving your hands When your pulse is detected a heart symbol in the calorie display will flash each time your heart beats one or two dashes will appear and then your heart rate will be shown For the most accurate heart rate reading continue to hold the contacts for about 15 seconds 7 Turn on the fan if desired The fan features several speed settings and an auto mode When the auto mode is selected the speed of the fan will automatically increase and decrease as the speed of the walking belt increases and decreases Press the Manual fan button repeat PA ediv to select a fan speed or to turn off the fan Press the Auto fan button to select the auto mode or to turn off the fan MANUAL When you are finished exercising remove the key from the console Step onto the foot rails press the Stop button and adjust the incline of the trea

38. nd a sensor Insert the tab on one end of the chest strap into the hole in one end of the sensor as shown Then press the end of the sen sor under the buckle on the chest strap The tab should be flush with the front of the sensor Chest Strap Tabs The heart rate moni Sensor Buckle tor must be worn under your clothes tight against your skin Wrap the heart rate monitor around your chest in the location shown Make sure that the logo is right side up Then attach the other end of the chest strap to the sensor Adjust the length of the chest strap if necessary Pull the sensor away from your body a few inches and locate the two electrode areas which are covered by shallow ridges Using saline solution such as saliva or contact lens solution wet the electrode areas Then return the sensor to a position against your chest CARE AND MAINTENANCE Thoroughly dry the sensor with a soft towel after each use Moisture may keep the sensor activated shortening the life of the battery Store the heart rate monitor in a warm dry place Do nat store the heart rate monitor in a plastic bag or other container that may trap moisture Do not expose the heart rate monitor to direct sun light for extended periods of time do not expose it to temperatures above 122 F 50 C or below 14 F 10 C Do not excessively bend or stretch the sensor when using or storing the heart rate monitor To clean
39. the sensor use a damp cloth and a small amount of mild soap Then wipe the sensor with a damp cloth and thoroughly dry it with a soft towel Never use alcohol abrasives or chemicals to clean the sensor Hand wash and air dry the chest strap TROUBLESHOOTING If the heart rate monitor does not function properly try the steps below Make sure that you are wearing the heart rate mon itor as described at the left If the heart rate monitor does not function when positioned as described move it slightly lower or higher on your chest lf heart rate readings are not displayed until you begin perspiring rewet the electrode areas For the console to display heart rate readings you must be within arm s length of the console If there is a battery cover on the back of the sensor replace the battery with a new battery of the same type The heart rate monitor is designed to work with people who have normal heart rhythms Heart rate reading problems may be caused by medical condi tions such as premature ventricular contractions pvcs tachycardia bursts and arrhythmia The operation of the heart rate monitor can be affected by magnetic interference from high power lines or other sources If you suspect that magnetic interference is causing a problem try relocating the fitness equipment 16 OPERATION AND ADJUSTMENT HOW TO CONNECT THE POWER CORD Use a Surge Suppressor Your treadmill like other electronic
40. wer cord and press the power switch into the reset position the demo mode is turned on To turn off the demo mode hold down the Stop button for a few seconds If the displays remain lit see THE INFORMATION MODE on page 24 to turn off the demo mode Next stand on the foot rails of the treadmill Find the clip attached to the key and slide the clip onto the waistband of your clothes Then insert the key into the console After a moment the displays will light IMPORTANT In an emer gency the key can be pulled from the console causing the walking belt to slow to a stop Test the clip by carefully taking a few steps backward if the key is not pulled from the console adjust the posi tion of the clip 19 HOW TO USE THE MANUAL MODE Insert the key into the console See HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER at the left Select the manual mode If the manual mode is not selected press the Manual Control button on the console Start the walking belt To start the walking belt press the Start button the Speed increase button or one of the 1 Step Speed buttons numbered 1 through 12 If you press the Start button or the Speed increase button the walking belt will begin to move at 1 mph As you exercise change the speed of the walking belt as desired by pressing the Speed increase and decrease buttons Each time you press one of the buttons the speed setting will change by 0 1 mph if you hold down the button the

42. x 8 x 1 2 Screws 1 12 13 Connect the ground wires G the 8 pin wires F the 10 pin wires E and the four speaker wires H from the Console 103 Note The Upright Wire 81 has 8 pins the pulse wire E has 10 pins and the speaker wires H have 2 pins See the inset drawing The connectors should slide together easily and snap into place If they do not turn one connector and try again IF YOU DO NOT CONNECT THE CON NECTORS PROPERLY THE CONSOLE MAY BECOME DAMAGED WHEN YOU TURN ON THE POWER After all of the wires are connected pull the wires tight and tighten the ties 99 around the wires Make sure that no wires are resting on any posts other than those with wire ties Cut off the ends of the ties 14 Insert the Console Base Back 93 into the hole in the console assembly and onto the top of the indicated bracket Be careful not to pinch any wires Tighten two 8 x 1 2 Flat Head Screws 31 into the tray on the Console Base Back 93 Console Assembly 13 15 16 Tighten nine 8 x 3 4 Screws 2 into the Console Base Back 93 in the indicated loca tions start with the center Screw Note Some of the 8 x 3 4 Screws 2 are designed to go in at different angles Slide the Handrail Covers 79 80 forward until 16 they match up with the Console Base 64 Attach the Handrail Covers with the four 8 x Console
