3. installed 4 Reassemble by reversing steps 1 2 5 Remove the hex head screw located on the Base Frame which connectsthe lowerend ofthe gas strut assembly to the Base Frame 6 Reposition the lower end of the Gas Strut Assembly to the elevation hole corresponding to the selected seat elevation 4 Reassemble by reversing step 5 5 Test the wheelchairto ensure the seat pan can be positioned approximately level when the gasstrut is fully extended Check to ensure all screwsand nuts are assembled snugly PROCEDURE 7 ADJ USTABLE SEATTILT This Procedure Includesthe Following Adjusting Seat Tilt Adjusting Seat Uplift Force Adjusting cable tension Waming After making Adjustments always make sure that parts are properly tightened BEFORE using the wheelchair 14 Adjusting Seat Tilt 1 To adjust the tilt angle activate the tilting leverlocated on side of push handle oron the armrest depending on how the wheelchairhasbeen configured Allow seat backto lowerto desired level and release tilt lever Seat should lock at desired tilt angle 2 Note that the tilt lever may be mounted onto the left or right side of the backrest push baroron the left or right armrest WARNING When tilting chair attendant must hold push handle securely so that seat does not drop too quic kly Adjusting Seat Uplift Force This procedure may be used to increase or decrease the uplift force required to raise an occupant from a tilt

10. curb WHEELC HAIR WITH STEP TUBES METHOD 2 WHEELC HAIRS WITHOUT STEP TUBES Unlessthe first assstant hasexceptional upperbody strength it isrecommended that METHOD 2 use two 2 assstants The second assistant should be postioned at the front ofthe wheelchairlifting upward on a non removable non detachable part ofthe wheelchairfra me when lifting the wheelchairand stabilzing the wheelchairwhen the wheelchairis being lowered to the ground The first asssta nt should sand on the sdewalkand tum the wheelchairs that the rearwheelsare against the curb The wheelchairshould be tilted backto the balance point and in one continuousdownward movement the rearwheels should be pulled up and overthe curb DO NOTretum the front castersto the ground until the wheelchairhasbeen pulled backward farenough forthe front castersto clearthe edge of the curb SIAIRWAYS WARNING Do not attempt to lifta wheelchair by lifting on any removable detachable parts Lifting by means of any removable detac hable parts of a wheelchair may result in injury to the user or damage to the wheelchair Extreme caution is advised when itis necessary to move an occupied wheelchair up or down the stairs PDG recommends using two 2 assistants and making thorough preparations Make sure to use ONLY secure non detac hable parts for hand held supports Follow this procedure for moving the wheelchair between floors when an elevator is NOTavailable 1 Afterthe w
11. d when necessary at your authorized dealerorby a qualified technician 6 For wheelchairs with handrims periodically check handrims to ensure they are secured to the rear wheels Operation PROCEDURE 1 FRONTRIGGING This Procedure Includesthe Following Footrest Assembly Installation Footrest Height Adjustment WARNING After making adjustments always make sure that parts are properly tightened BEFORE using the wheelchair Plug In Footrest Assembly Installation 1 To mount plug in style front rigging push the button located nearthe top ofthe footrest tube and slide into open square tube seat rail at front of chair Footrest hanger will lock into position when the button pops through hole nearthe front of the seat rail 2 To release front rigging push button front of seat rail and slide front rigging forward and out of the open square seat rail tube Swing Away Footrest Assembly Installation 1 To mount swing a way style front rigging slide front rigging on already existing swing awa y adaptors The front rigging should click and lock into place 2 To release and swing away push button on front rigging and push front rigging aside Footrest Height Adjustment Height adjustment is made to the desired length with individual sitting in wheelchair with feet on foot plates The lowest point of the foot plates should be no lessthan 2 from the ground orfloor 1 Remove the nut bolt and coved washersand positio

13. fully by many Individual wheelchair users often develop skills to deal with daily living activities that may differ from those described in this manual PDG recognizesand encourageseach individualto try what works best in overcoming architectural obstaclesthat they may encounter Techniques in this manual are a starting point forthe new wheelchair user and assistant with safety asthe most important consideration for all SIABILITY AND BALANCE To assure stability and properoperation of your wheelchair you must at all times maintain proper balance Your wheelchair has been designed to remain upright and stable during nomal daily activities aslong as you do not move beyond the center of gravity Virtually all activities which involve movement in the wheelchairhave an effect on the centerof gravity PDG recommendsusing seat restraints for a dditional safety while involved in activities that shift your weight DO NOT lean forward out of the wheelchair any further than the length of the armrests Make sure the castersare pointing in the forward position whenever you lean forward This can be achieved by advancing the wheelchair and then reversing it in a straight line COPING WITH EVERYDAY OBSIACLES Coping with the irritation of everyday obstaclescan be alleviated somewhat by leaming how to manage your wheelchair Keep in mind your centerof gravity to maintain stability balance A NOTE TO WHEELC HAIR ASSISTANTS When assistance to the wheelc
14. hair user is required remember to use good body mechanics Keep your back straight and bend your knees whenever tilting the wheelchair or traversing curbs orother impediments Be aware of any removable detachable parts These must NEVER be used forhand held or lifting supports asthey may be inadvertently released resulting in possible injury to the user and or assistant s When leaming a new assistance technique have an experienced assistant help before attempting it alone TILING WARNING DO NOTtit the wheelchair without assistance When tilting the wheelchair an assistant should grasp the back of the wheelchair on a non removable non detachable part Inform the wheelchair occupant before tilting the wheelchair and remind him her to lean back Be sure the occupant sfeet and handsare clear of all wheels TILTING CURBS After mastering the techniques of tilting the wheelchair use this procedure to tackle shallow curbs short stairs etc METHOD 1 WHEELC HAIR WITH STEP TUBES Apply a continuousdownward motion until the balance point isachieved and the front castersclear the curb At this point the assistant will feel a difference in the weight distribution Roll the wheelchairforward and slowly lowerthe wheelchair in one continuous movement Do not let the wheelchair drop the last few inchesto the ground This could result in injury to the occupant Push the wheelchairforward until the rear wheels roll up and overthe

17. ix bolts on each of the axle plates which hold the axle platestight onto the lowerframe To change the position of the rear wheels loosen these bolts slightly and slide the rearaxlesforward or rearward as desired Before re tightening be sure both rearaxlesare in the same location as measured from the rear of the lower frame members There are measuring indicators on the bottom of the lower frame members The antitip tubes slide into receivers at the back of the frame so that the rollers prevent the chair from overtuming if the centre of gravity moves too far rearward IMPORTANT With the user sitting in the chair check to ensure the wheelchair is stable in all tilted untilted positions before dispensing the wheelchair PROCEDURE 5 FRONT CASTERS This Procedure Includes the Following Installing Replacing Caster Forks Installing Replacing Front Casters Waming After making Adjustments always make sure that parts are properly tightened BEFORE using the wheelchair Installing Replacing Caster Forks 1 Remove the cap on top of caster housing 2 Loosen nut on caster stem using a 34 socket wrench 3 Slide out caster fork assembly 4 Reassemble by reversing steps 1 3 Be sure bearingsare replaced if removed 5 Test the wheelchair for maneuverability 13 Installing Replacing Front Casters 1 Remove bolt from front of caster housing 2 Slide out caster 3 Reassemble by reversing steps 1 2 4 Test the wheelchairfor ma
18. knuts should be re used no more than five 5 timesto ensure locking material grips If locknuts are wom replace them 12 PROCEDURE 4 REAR WHEELS This Procedure Includesthe Following Removing Installing the Rear Wheels Adjusting the Axle Location Wheel Position Adjustment Removing Installing the Rear Wheels Axles 1 Unless the product was ordered with quick release axles the rear wheels can be removed using a 37 socket head and a 34 crescent wrench If the chair is configured using axle bolts not quick release the axle bolt heads must be located on the inside of the frame with the nutslocated on the outside of the rear wheel hubs If axle boltsare installed backwards the seat frame may hit the end of the axle bolts when attempting to tilt the chair During assembly tighten the axle bolts so that the rear wheels are snug but not so much that the wheelsare unable to spin freely If quick release axles have been supplied push in the tip of the quick release axle and pullthe wheel off of the axle 2 To reinstall the rear wheel onto the wheelchair reverse step 1 WARNING Make sure the detent pin and locking pins of the quick release axle are fully released BEFORE operating the wheelc hair The locking pins MUSTbe protruding past the outside of the rear wheel axle receiver fora positive lock Keep locking pins clean Adjusting the Rear Axle position The rear wheel position may be adjusted forward orrearward There are s
19. n the footrest assembly to a determined height 2 Line up mounting hole and the aluminum insert in the footrest tube reinsert the bolt and securely tighten by hand Be sure to replace coved washersas well 3 Repeat the procedure forthe other footrest 11 NOTE Check to ensure that desired front rigging adjustment doesnot cause pressure to legsat front of seat upholstery Such a condition could cause injury to the occupant WARNING DO NOTATIEMPTTO SIAND ON FOOTPLATES Standing on the foot plates will cause the chairto tip forward abruptly and may resultin an injurious fall to the individual DO NOTATIEMPT t lift chair by the footrests or leg rests These components are designed to separate from the wheelchair FRONTRIGGING SHOULD BE REMOVED when entering or exiting from the wheelc hair PROC EDURE 2 ARMRESIS This Procedure Includesthe Following Adjusting Armrest Height Removing Amrests Amrest Pads Adjusting Armrest Height Unlock the arm by depressing the black release button on the upper front of the armrest while moving the armrest up or down Adjust Armrest to desired height The armrest height will lock when the release button pops out of one of the armrest height adjustment holes Removing Amrests Release the arm assembly by depressing the black release leveron the front of the armrest just above the seat pan while pulling the armrest up Armrest Pads Check for ripsor breaks If these are present re
20. neuverability PROCEDURE 6 SEAT TO FLOOR HEIGHT This Procedure Includesthe Following Adjusting Seat to Floor Height Waming After making Adjustments always make sure that parts are properly replaced and tightened BEFORE using the wheelchair 1 Upper Frame a eS rn js iN Tt oOOO0O0000 7 Upper Strut Mount Adjusting Seatto Hoor Height Front Elevation Bracket The seat to floor height can be adjusted from 14 Ham Lower Frame OO to 18 depending on front casterand rear wheel F eeeesoes NJ combinations Lower Strut Mount An additional 2 height can be obtained by using an elevation extender kit Adjust the position of the Upper Frame on the Front Elevation Bracket The 3 strut position must also coincide on the Lower Strut Mount height position Referto the Stellar spec sheet for different seat The example above shows the the Upper Frame mounted on the top hole heig ht front ca ter rear wheel combinations therefore the strut must be mounted on the top hole on the Lower Strut Mount 1 Remove the socket head screws located on the outside of the seat pan assembly one screw on each side These two screws attach the Seat Frame to the Base Frame and also actatthe pivot point when the seat istilted 2 Reposition the Seat Frame to the desired elevation There are three elevation choices without using frame height extenders An additional 2 may be achieved when frame height extendersare
