LOCKED There are several ways to leave your RAD while you are at home locked unlocked with the key in the lock with the key hidden nearby whatever strategy you choose do it consistently so you will remember during any stressful times Be sure to follow any laws in your jurisdiction regarding locked gun storage STEP 2 While you most likely selected which accessories you wanted to hold your weapons of choice when you bought your RAD it s a great idea to check how they fit and whether they are correctly positioned now that the RAD is in its mounted position Make any necessary adjustments and add or subtract any accessories that are not doing what you wanted them to do You can always use them in your other RADS STEP 3 Decide ahead of time how you want your firearms positioned i e loaded round in chamber or not extra magazines nearby safeties set etc Whatever you do do it consistently because you won t have time to think about it during an emergency Be sure to periodically check batteries in flashlights weapons lights and cell phones if you keep them in your RAD Make it a regular routine to perform maintenance checks preferably taking some time to practice accessing the weapons as well When practicing make sure there in no ammo in your guns and that everyone else at home knows that you are practicing so they aren t startled or surprised Better yet they should be practicing with you so everyone at home
3. in RAD2 with one CLP303 or One pair HLDR102 Rifle Holder Hooks in RAD4 2 Keys Your key number is marked on the keys and on a sticker on the lock inside the RAD Write the key number down and keep it in a safe location We will need that number if you ever need a replacement key STEP 4 Attach the RAD to the wall with one screw check level then attach the remaining screws Use a minimum of four screws two through each rail into at least one stud and use drywall anchors for additional support RAD2 weighs 20 pounds empty and RAD4 weighs 40 pounds plus you will need to support the weigh of the items you store inside your RAD Get help if the RAD is too heavy for you to install alone If you did not attach the gas spring s earlier you will need to do so at this point Attach the lanyard to the ring if you will be accessing your RAD using r that technique which is especially useful in high horizontal applications STEP 5 Rotate the Caron Forensics logo depending on the orientation of your installation The nut on the inside of the lid can be loosened allowing you to rotate the logo after which the nut should be retightened STEP 6 Test the functioning of the lid the gas springs and the lock Add accessories Once the RAD is firmly attached to the wall attach the individual standard and optional holders and accessories to the rails All accessories attach to the rail using a spring l
4. and position yourself nearby to defend yourself until help arrives Those locations are often coincidently bedroom or hall closets and other storage rooms Plan a location where your family will meet which must also be a position you can defend in an emergency You need to decide whether to mount your RAD horizontally or vertically which will usually be driven by the characteristics of the surface you have chosen or whether your objectives include protecting your RAD from children If you have children mount it horizontally and high yet reachable for you There is an advantage to horizontal mounting in that you will be able to use the bottom lip to hold ammo magazines and other items Examine and measure the surface you have chosen to be sure it is flat or can be shimmed and that the door can be opened fully Sometimes you will need to mount plywood to your wall to get a level surface and then attach the RAD to the plywood Configuration Plan your initial RAD configuration around the weapons you want in your hands during emergencies The first decision is whether you will be using long weapons shotguns or rifles or smaller weapons handguns tasers pepper spray knives You would typically select RAD 4 for rifle shotgun use and RAD2 for handgun defense Having said that the RAD4 is an excellent choice if you intend to configure it for a long row of handguns Once you decide what your RAD will contain check the list of RAD accessories and s
5. knows what to do in an emergency After practice reload STEP 4 The key can be inserted in either direction Unlock the RAD by turning the key clockwise as you would when starting your car see photo on left Once unlocked turn the black handle to point towards the front of the cabinet The cabinet will still be held by the gas spring but is now positioned for rapid access see photo on right RAD2 RAD 4 Operations Manual STEP 5 You have two ways to open the RAD depending on whether you have a horizontal or vertical mount and whether you have chosen to use the lanyard to access your RAD We definitely recommend using the lanyard when your RAD is mounted high on a wall because it will be easier to open quickly and far easier to reach when you re close the RAD WITHOUT LANYARD WITH LANYARD No matter which method you choose it s only necessary to get the door started until the point when you feel the gas springs take over As soon as they do let go of the lanyard or handle and begin to access your weapons with both hands Practice practice practice In the event that you re forced to defend yourself your family your employees your fellow officers or other citizens being prepared will help make your responses automatic and executed exactly as you trained and practiced Stay Safe Rev B March 2013 CAR N SECTION 5 REPLACEMENT KEY CODE PROCEDURE FORENSICS For th

8. but useful to hold a wide range of tactical items To mount vertically remove screws turn each rail adapter 90 degrees to the right and reinstall screws When installed vertically must be inserted into the RAD at the center of the cabinet then can be attached to the rails and slid into position Comes with two CLIP105 clips to prevent slipping when mounted vertically Shelf measures 3 1 2 by 9 LOCK102 Keyless Lock Keyless entry allows for easy access in time of emergency The keypad code is programmable to any four digit code that you would like to make it To open the RAD simply type your four digit pass code by using the numbers pad and turn the handle counterclockwise RAD2 RAD 4 Operations Manual LOCK102 Operating Instructions Operating LOCK102 The lock has a default User Code of 0099 Type this code into the keypad and turn the handle counterclockwise The handle must be turned within 4 seconds after entering the code or the lock will relock itself If an incorrect code has been entered more than three times the lock will shutdown and not allow it to be opened for 10 seconds The Blue LED flashes when the code has been accepted and the Red LED flashes when the code has been rejected Number button Red LED Handle Blue LED Programming The keyless lock has a default User Code of 0099 This code can be changed to any four digit code you would like by typing in this code 0099 on the keypad and turning the handl
9. ded by CARON as follows COVERED e Parts and labor for a period of one 1 year from date of shipment e Any part found defective would be either repaired or replaced at CARON s discretion free of charge by CARON in Marietta OH Parts that are replaced will become the property of CARON e This service includes diagnosis and correction of individual CARON product malfunctions or failures and may consist of temporary procedures to be followed by the customer while a permanent solution is sought e If CARON factory service personnel determine the customer s unit requires further service dependent of the model involved CARON may at its sole discretion provide a service technician to correct the problem or return the unit to the factory If a unit is to be shipped back to the factory CARON will pay all ground shipping charges via UPS or other common carrier e CARON will have the right to inspect the equipment and determine the repairs or replacement parts necessary The customer would be notified within a reasonable time after inspection of any costs incurred that are not covered by this warranty prior to initiation of any such repairs NOT COVERED e Cost of express shipments such as Federal Express UPS Next Day Air UPS Second Day Air or any other express shipment charges e Any customer modifications of this equipment or any repairs undertaken without the prior written consent of CARON will render this limited warranty void e
10. e counterclockwise Once the handle is turned you will see a red number button To change the code press the red button and type in the current code 0099 then type in your new four digit code and then retype the new code to confirm Example on how to change User Code to 1234 Ex 0099 1234 1234 The code is now set to 1234 Low Battery When the battery power is low the Red LED will flash 3 times before the Blue LED flashes to signal acceptance of the code Batteries should be changed as soon as this happens The lock will operate for approximately 100 times with a low battery How to Access RAD with Dead Batteries in LOCK102 The LOCK102 has been designed so an external 9 Volt battery can be placed against the contact points surrounding the Blue and Red LED s so the lock can be opened to replace the batteries when they fail Procedure Place positive terminal of 9V battery against the Red LED contact point and the negative terminal against the Blue LED e Type in User Code while 9V battery is against the LED s e Turn handle counterclockwise e Replace the 2 AAA batteries by removing the 2 phillips screws and cover plate on the back side of the lock Rev B March 2013 SECTION 4 USING YOUR RAD STEP 1 Now that you have installed your RAD System you should practice opening and locking the unit and especially accessing the contents There is one way to leave your RAD when you re not home

12. elect whatever you need to hold your chosen arsenal of weapons Remember to plan where you will locate your weapons along the rails in your RAD such that they can be properly located and gripped as soon as the RAD door is opened You will be able to easily set up your RAD to optimize shooting left handed which is especially important with handguns One of the critical advantages of RAD systems is that you can determine set up and access your weapons from the exact orientations that enable you to get ready immediately We recommend that you regularly practice accessing your RAD and its weapons so that it becomes instinctive RAD2 RAD 4 Operations Manual Rev B March 2013 SECTION 2 INSTALLATION Preparation Tools Required Level Drill Driver Drill Bits screwdriver bits stud finder 2 1 4 or longer 10 screws for most stud drywall installations Select Location for the RAD Make sure door can be fully opened after installation When mounting near ceiling you will need a minimum of 7 1 2 from the top rail mounting slots to the ceiling If vertical decide if direction door will open Remove the accessories until mounting is completed STEP 1 Locate and mark stud locations in the wall Ideally you will try to screw the RAD to a wall into at least two studs through both rails If your surface is not level or you want to add space to clear a molding around a door you may first install plywood on the wall and the

14. n install the RAD on the plywood If you use plywood make sure some of the screws attaching the plywood to the wall will be behind the RAD making it safer from tampering STEP 2 For horizontal mounting draw a level or plumb line where you will mount the RAD along one of the two rails Mark the intersections of your level line and the stud locations If you are mounting vertically you will mark one line along the stud and will need to mark another line parallel to that line 3 1 2 away You should use alternative drywall mounts such as toggle bolts to secure the rail not being screwed into the stud STEP 3 You may choose to attach the gas springs one on RAD2 two on RAD4 either now or after you mount it on the wall but don t close the door once you have attached the spring s until you have mounted the RAD to a surface To attach a gas spring push the open socket on the black spring onto the metal ball socket on the door For vertical installations you should remove the bottom spring on a RAD 4 to avoid interference with rifle stocks You may also opt to remove the top gas springs in vertical installations If you ever need to remove a gas spring pull up on the small black spring clip with a small screwdriver or needle nose RAD2 RAD 4 Operations Manual What s in the Box User s Manual RAD2 or RAD4 cabinet One CLIP104 Flashlight Holder One HLDR103 Magnetic Clip One HLDR101 Handgun Holder
