Once the Genie is in place check that the bub To attach your came ble level on the top is showing the air bubble in the centre of the ring This will ensure that your shots will rotate perfectly flat Now attach your camera to the top of the ball head Orange warning print will be visible if it is not attached correctly w ra to the top of the Ge nie you can either use a tripod head or a ball head WB Screw this down securely to the top of the Ge nie using the 3 8 16 UNC thread co WWE ants gt ka K Using a Syrp Link cable matched to your camera model connect the 2 5mm end to the camera port on your Genie and the other end to the remote input on your camera TAKING YOUR FIRST TIMELAPSE The following will guide you through how to setup your first timelapse using a compatible DSLR camera Hold down the OK button to turn on the Genie Press OK on the timelapse recording option Here you will be presented with 4 options New Recording Clouds People Stars We recommend if you are new to timelapse that you choose one of the 3 presets For this example we will use Clouds Using the keypad scroll down to clouds and press OK Before pressing start be sure to set your camera up Take some test photos to get the exposure and framing correct To ensure that all of the images captured are consistent you should use the manual setting on t

Move the release slide on the back of the Genie Screw the linear accessory to your slider by towards the unlock symbol While holding at un turning the knob in the centre of the linear ac lock pull the panning accessory off the base of cessory the Genie This may be quite tight when new Attach the rope clamps to each end of your Coil the rope around the rope clamp at one slider using the provided straps end Pull the other end of the rope so that it is tight and coil around the rope clamp at the other end Click the Genie into the linear accessory firmly Orange warning print will be visible if the Genie and check that the release catch is completely is not attached correctly closed To attach your camera to the top of the Ge Attach your camera to the top of the ball head nie you can either use a tripod head or a ball head Using a Syrp Link cable matched to your camera model connect the 2 5mm end to the camera port on the Genie and the other end to the remote input on your camera TAKING YOUR FIRST TIMELAPSE Hold down the OK button to turn on the Genie Press OK on the timelapse menu item to enter the timelapse mode Here you will be presented with 4 options New Recording Clouds People Stars We recommend that if you are new to time lapse to choose one of the 3 presets For this example we will use Clouds Using the keypad scroll down to clouds and pre

Do not handle a power plug with wet hands When unplugging a power plug grasp and pull the plug instead of the cord Do not scratch cut or excessively bend the cord or put a heavy object on the cord Also do not twist or tie the cords Do not connect more than one power plug to the same power outlet Do not use a cord whose insulation has been damaged Occasionally unplug the power plug and use a dry cloth to clean off the dust around the power outlet If the surrounding is dusty humid or oily the dust on the power outlet may become moist and short circuit the outlet to cause a fire Do not transport or store the device together with metal objects Do not strike throw drop or damage the device Do not try to pierce disassemble or modify the device Do not use the device in a corrosive environment Do not put the device into a microwave oven Do not defeat the safety purpose of the polarized or grounding type plug A polarized plug has two blades with one wider than the other A grounding type plug has two blades and a third grounding prong The wide blade or the third prong are provided for your safety If the provided plug does not fit into your outlet do not use Protect the power cord from being walked on pinched or exposed to animals particularly at plugs convenience receptacles and the point where they exit from the apparatus Unplug this apparatus during lightning storms or when unused for long per
4. able to create repeatable moves so you never miss the unpredictable change in the environment 12 0 Advanced settings The advanced settings will help you to turther customize your Genie setup In timelapse mode enter the New Recording menu and navigate to the second screen this is located bellow the start menu item In this screen you will find the advance setup Press OK to enter advance setup Move shoot delay To reduce camera shake increase the Move Shoot Delay time This is the time your Genie will wait after moving and before it tells the camera to take a photo The default setting is 400ms but you can increase this to a maximum of 3000ms 3 seconds Bramping Bulb ramping enables you to shoot timelapses from day to night in situations where the light changes drastically Navigate to bramping and press the left or right buttons to turn bramping on Press OK to enter the bramping settings set your first exposure to the shutter speed you would like to use for your first shot and set the last exposure to the shutter speed you would like to use for your last shot Before starting your timelapse ensure your camera is switched to bulb mode Please note that most cameras fastest shutter speed in bulb mode is 1 second Cameras such as the 5D Mark III and some others can shoot as fast as 1 20 of a second in bulb mode HDR If your camera has HDR as a shooting setting then set it to this mode If not then set your cam
5. must ensue that you setup on both the Genie and your camera before you start Firstly turn on the genie and in Settings change the camera interface to IR The change the camera model setting to match that of your camera Then on your camera make sure that you turn of LCD preview Also make sure that your camera is setup to recive a remote signal Another thing to keep in mind if you are shooting in RAW is you must ensure there is enough time between frames for the camera to process the image This will ensure that no frames are skipped due to the picture buffer in the camera filling up This has been an issue that has occured with some cameras 14 0 Installing Firmware Complete the following steps to install the beta release v2 4 onto the Genie 1 SA Locate and Download the firmware release zip folder onto your computer from the Resources downlaods page at www syrp co nz support Unzip the folder to reveal the bin file v2 4 Take a blank FAT32 formatted USB key and load the bin file onto the USB stick Prepare the Genie for upload by ensuring the unit is powered down Insert the USB key into the USB port on the side of the Genie While holding down the back button press and hold the OK button simultaneously until the screen starts flashing black and white which indicates the unit is reading the bin file on the USB key After approx 10 secs the Syrp logo should appear and your Genie will load as nor

7. the infrared emitter to connect with You can choose Canon Nikon Sony Olympus Pentax or Minolta Auto Off sets the waiting time before the unit powers down automatically when not being used We recom mend to keep this function active Sound Turns the internal soeaker ON OFF Time Adjust to match the current time in your region Units Change the units between Imperial feet and Metric cm m according to your preference Date Adjust to match the current date in your region Frame Rate Adjust the frame rate to match your workflow for shooting This will determine how other parame ters are calculated on the device Typically this is 30 fps tor North America and 25 fps for Euro pean Countries Shutter signal This is the time that the Genie sends a signal to the camera to tell it to take a photo Default set ting is 200ms Some cameras require a longer signal to register the shutter has been fired Auto Focus The time in which the Genie instructs the camera to Auto Focus for The default setting is off We recommend setting your camera to manual focus to avoid focus shifting throughout your timelapse Load factory defaults Reset the settings back to factory parameters All presets and other user settings will be lost Exit To exit the settings menu just press Back All changes are automatically saved Using the IR Link cable If you are using the IR link cable there are a few things that you

9. you like to shoot with you can adjust the interval setting and the play time will update to match Note If you are shooting long exposures make sure that the interval is long enough to allow the camera to finish capturing the image as well as process the data Movement This sets the angle in panning or distance in linear as well as the direction Press the Left or Right keys to adjust the value Press the OK button to change the direction Preview This runs the Genie at the video playback speed based on the settings you have chosen You can use this to preview how your movement will look in your compiled video Note If the real time play speed of your setting is faster than the maximum drive speed of the Genie the preview function will be greyed out Save as new pre set If you want to keep your setup and use it again on other shoots you can save it This will add a new preset to the timelapse menu Start Once you have been through these settings you can hit start and your timelapse will begin Advance Setup In the advanced settings you can adjust the move shoot delay This is the time that the Genie will wait after it has finished moving and before it sends the signal for your camera to take a photo If you have a heavy setup or an unstable rig then adjusting the move shoot delay will help settle any camera shake before capturing the next image 3 0 melapse with video camera When using a video camera with the

Genie there is no link between the Genie and the camera You will need to set up the timelapse functions on your video camera using the instructions pro vided by the manufacturer Once you have setup the video camera to record a timelapse you should enter the video mode on the Genie Select video from the main menu then select New recording In this menu you can adjust the settings for the capture time as well as the angle panning move ments or distance linear movements that the genie will move Press the Left or Right buttons to set the capture time to the total recording time you would like to capture your timelapse for Press the Left or Right button to set the angle or distance of travel you would like the genie to move throughout your timelapse Press OK on the movement setting to change the direction of the movement Once you have started the timelapse recording on your camera press OK on start in the Genie menu The Genie will slowly rotate over the capture time 10 0 Auto start countdown In the recording mode menu select Auto Start to enter the settings Timer select countdown timer using the left right button to set a countdown time before the recording starts Countdown timer sets the time before your chosen recording will start Mode select either timelapse or video according to what type of recording you would like to take Preset select your recording settings from a preset Yo

24. ove Continue will repeat the move continuously without returning to home first You may also choose to power off or return home post recording Repeat delay Set the delay time between the end of your move and the start of the next repetition you may also choose no delay to run the recording without interruption Number of repeats select the number of times you would like to repeat the recording Start Press start to begin the recording Note be sure to set the date amp time up correctly in the settings menu before using the time amp date feature Bounce Back Mode Bounce back mode is found in autostart This is used to repeat the same move back and forth It can be used in timelapse or video mode with the panning or linear accessory Setting up bounce back mode Set up your desired movement in either timelapse or video mode and save as a new preset Go back to the main menu and enter the Autostart menu Select your preset and setup the timer you wish to use In autostart under Post Recording select Bounce Back then set the number or repeats you wish 5 repeats will perform a movement 5 times so there and back twice and then there again This mode is very useful single person crew situations for interviews If you set your Genie up in bounce back mode with your desired settings you will be able to get a dynamic second camera angle without the need for a second cameraman For timelapse you are

27. sion on your camera 0 0 New recordings and presets Time to get creative We ll now give you a bit more of a run down on each of the settings that you can adjust to create your own unique timelapse and video recordings We will use the panning setup throughout but all of these settings apply to the linear setup as well TIMELAPSE With the panning accessory in place and the Genie turned on enter the timelapse mode by pressing OK on the timelapse menu item Press OK again to enter the New recording menu In here you will be able to adjust all of the various settings required to capture a timelapse using either the traditional method setting via the shot interval or the real time method specifying the compiled video play time Rec time This is the total time the Genie will run for during the timelapse at your location Set this to a time that suits the scene you are shooting Play time This is the time that you would like your final video to play for after you have compiled all of the images The Genie will use this setting and the frame rate you set to determine the total number of shots it needs to take and how long to wait between each of them By adjusting this value the interval between the shots will also change Interval The interval is the time between each of the shots the Genie tells your camera to capture The interval will be calculated from the Rec time and the Play time If you have a particular interval
28. ss OK Before pressing start be sure to set your camera up Take some test photos to get the exposure and framing correct To ensure that all of the images captured are consistent you should use the manual setting on your camera The clouds preset will run for 30 minutes taking a photo and moving very slowly 85cm down the slider in the direction of the symbols on the linear accessory Make sure that you have enough track on the side of the linear accessory for the Genie to complete its movement Now that the camera is setup you can press start TAKING YOUR FIRST VIDEO Hold down the OK button to turn on the Genie scroll down to Video using the arrow keys then press OK to enter the video mode Here you will be presented with 3 options New recording Fast Slow To get started we recommend to try either of the presets For this example we will use Slow Using the keypad scroll down to Slow and press OK The Slow preset will run for 60 seconds moving very slowly 85cm down the slider in the direc tion of the symbol on the linear accessory Make sure that you have enough room on the side of your track for the Genie to complete its movement Before pressing start be sure set your camera up in video mode and press record Now that the camera is setup and recording you can press start on the Genie Once it has finished moving be sure to end the recording ses
