AN NAVY RO POTTERS WHEELS Thomas Stuart Signature Series Skutt Potter s Wheel Operating Manual USER MANUAL IS AVAILABLE IN THE INSTALLED COUNTRY LANGUAGE 6441 SE JOHNSON CREEK BLVD PORTLAND OR 97206 503 774 6000 SKUTT SKUTT COM WWW SKUTTWHEELS Revised 5 6 11 2 SAFETY AND INSTALLATION Do not leave children unattended near wheel Keep tools and small parts out of the reach of children Do insert hands or objects into openings or moving Darts Do not use the wheel for purposes other than throwing clay Do not place items on the wheel head that may fly off and injure someone Do not run cord under carpets or cover cord with a rug or runners Be sure the cord cannot be stepped on or tripped over Do notuse on wet floor If you experience any malfunctions with your wheel discontinue use Return the wheel to an authorized repair center for repairs Cease operation and turn off the wheel if you smell smoke or hear unusual noises Use proper lifting techniques when moving Repair and modification by user are prohibited not use outside If using an extension cord make sure it is sized correctly Never plug a larger diameter cord into a smaller diameter extension cord Make sure the wire size is the same both The plug is designed for safety purposes to fit in the wall outlet only one way If you are unable to fit the plug fully into the outlet contact an electrician Be sure plug2. fits tightly into outlet loose fit will cause overheating and damage to the plug or the wheel Plug the wheel directly into AC wall outlet Do not plug the wheel in if your hands are wet Keep motor control box and foot pedal assembly dry Do not grab the wheel head while the unit is on Unplug the unit from the wall receptacle during electrical storms to prevent accidental damage by power surges A fuse is built in as a safety feature on the back of the control box Always unplug the wheel before attempting any adjustments or repairs Never operate this wheel with any of the safety guards removed Do not operate the wheel wearing loose clothing Always wear safety goggles to protect your eyes from flying debris If supply cord is damaged it must be replaced by the manufacturer it s service agent or similiar qualified persons to avoid a hazard Installation Read entire manual before installing or operating your wheel 1 Locate on a hard level surface 3 OPERATION Place the wheel head on the shaft and twist in the opposite direction the wheel will be spinning until the wheel head locks in place about 1 4 turn Make sure the power switch and foot pedal are in the OFF position ox Counter Clockwise 624 Set the Reversing swtch to the desired wheel rotation position Plug the wheel in Operation Make sure the foot pedal is in the off position Turn on
3. the switch located on the side of the control box The light on the switch will come on when there is power to the wheel Press down on the foot pedal to control the speed of the wheel The pedal is not spring loaded so it will hold at any speed you want when you take your foot away from the pedal If the wheel head moves up and down as it rotates stop the wheel remove the wheel head turn it 180 degrees and place it back on the shaft Sometimes the anti seize lubricant that covers the shaft needs to be smoothed out to prevent the wheel head from bobbing To prevent the wheel head from sticking in the future we recommend occasionally using a small amount of anti seize lubricant on the shaft This is available from most auto supply stores It is normal to hear a little noise in the motor when you first start using your wheel It takes a while for the brushes to seat to the commutator After a few hours of use the noise should calm down CHANGING THE DIRECTION OF THE MOTOR DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REVERSE THE WHEEL DIRECTION WHILE THE POWER TO THE WHEEL IS ON OR THE WHEEL HEAD IS MOVING Your wheel is equipped with a reversing switch and you have the option of having the wheel spin counterclock wise right handed or clockwise left handed All Skutt Wheels are shipped set to turn counter cockwise Make sure the power switch is turned off before changing the direction of the wheel The rotational direction of the wheel head is controlled by the switch o

6. n the motor To reverse the direction turn the switch to the opposite posi tion Changing direction of the motor while power is on will damage the controller and motor and will not be covered by warranty If you do decide to make adjustments on your own never do so with the wheel plugged in to a power supply Unplug the wheel make your adjustments and then plug the wheel in to test FUSE Replacement fuses are available from electronic supply stores Use FAST ACTING 15 AMP fuses only We also recommend using ceramic type fuses not glass type Do not use automotive type fuses 4 WARRANTY AND SPECIFICATIONS Warranty Skutt warrants this wheel to be free from defects in both materials and workmanship for a period of 5 years from the date of purchase This warranty is void if this wheel has been misused abused damaged by accident ne glected freight damaged or repaired or modified by anyone other than Skutt or one of our specifically authorized Skutt Dealers For repairs this wheel must be packed and returned to Skutt via insured freight by the customer at their expense The repaired wheel will be returned freight collect The customer is responsible for all freight charges to and from Skutt This warranty is exclusive and is in lieu of all other warranties expressed or implied Including without limita tion warranties or merchantability and fitness for particular purpose all other representations to the first user pur
