Quick Attendance Chapter Advanced Attendance I 42 More about the Seating Chart As mentioned in chapter 2 a seating chart must be created and saved before you can use it to take attendance This lesson explains how to create a seating chart Details Notes Create a Seating Chart The first time you open a class tab from the Seating Chart task page the page is organized into two panes The left pane is labeled Students and shows an alphabetical display of student school photos or photo place holders The right pane displays a grid To create a seating chart click a photo and hold the mouse button as you drag the photo to a location on the grid then release the mouse The photo aligns with the nearest grid lines This process is called drag and drop Continue to drag and drop photos until the Student pane is empty Note If you do not assign all students to a seat on the grid you cannot use the chart for attendance Instead when you attempt to open the chart it will default to the edit mode until all students have been added to the grid Using the grid allows you to arrange the seating chart to match the configuration of your room Not all classes are seated in rows Some classrooms use tables When you have placed all students in the chart click the Save Chart button This chart is assigned for the duration of the class or until you edit to create a new one Random Seating To create a random

28. Topics such as Categories Grading Scales Maximum Value and Weight are all relevant to assignments This lesson explains the role each of these fields plays and also describes supporting criteria sb Details Notes Class Options Before creating specific assignments general assignment decisions must be made and the application must be configured properly to support those decisions Specifically you must decide if you want to use the category feature to organize your assignments and if you want those categories to carry a weight when being computed toward a final grade You need to decide if you will accept extra credit and if so how you want to calculate that score Also some schools allow instructors to create their own grading scales These scales are used for assignment grades only however if this option is available this is another configuration that must be set before Assignments are created All of these items are configured from the Class Options dialog box Class Options can be opened from the sub item listed under the Options category in the navigation pane or from the button found on any Gradebook toolbar This dialog box displays five tabs General Narrative Categories Scales and Terms At the top of each tab a course field appears with directional arrows that allow you to select any course listed for the designated instructor Both the General and the Narrative tabs were introduced in the Getting Started lesson
