17. tomatically orient labels correctly so lets leave this option enabled By checking the Line Smoothing option MAPublisher will create a smoothed path for each text object in the selected Text layer and place the text along this path at the specified Offset value The labels can then be dragged and positioned at any position along a line For this example leave it unchecked because the streets are very linear The Label Position option allows you to select the vertical position of the labels relative to the line Three options are available for the vertical positioning of text labels Baseline Descender and Center Select Descender to place the labels on top of the generated text path Labels can be modified if they exceed the length of the line in the current default font size First check the Adjust label if larger than line option to activate the label rules The order for the rules can be changed by clicking on the rule and then pressing the Up or Down button Checking the Reduce font size option will allow you to reduce the size of the font to a specified minimum size in points We can select 3 for this exercise Checking Reduce horizontal scaling will allow text to be scaled down horizontally by the percentage specified Leave this at 50 Click OK The roads that were previously selected have now been labeled AY Adobe Illustrator MAPdata USA Tutorial3 ai 295 8 CMYK Preview Hi File Edit Object Type Select Filter Effect Yi
