11. dded wait 2 3 seconds for the cursor to move the next dotted line American DJe www americandj com LED Messenger Instruction Manual Page 17 LED Messenger Editing Phrases 5 Enter your phrase as if you were texting using a cell phone Example press the 2 button twice to add the letter b to your phrase press the 5 button three times to add the letter I to your phrase etc The 1 button acts as a shift key press it once to switch to capital letters or press it again to switch to lower case letters 6 If you make a mistake in your phrase you can press the BACK SPACE button to delete the last character added If you need to make a space in between words use the SPACE button 7 After you have finished creating your full phrase press the ENTER button to to confirm and store the phrase into memory Once you have pressed ENTER your phrase will begin to scroll 8 To select your phrase to scroll please see pages 13 14 Creating a phrase using a keyboard with PS 2 Con nection Note When using a keyboard to edit please disconnect any DMX Controller connected to the LED Messenger Creating a phrase using a keyboard with PS 2 connection is much easier then using the IR Remote With the keyboard you can type and not have to wait 2 3 seconds for the cursor to jump to the next character line Before you begin to create a phrase using a keyboard you must find your desired location rd 01 rd 15 v

13. e DMX adrress correctly FAIL will appear briefly LED Messenger Master Slave Configuration AMaster Slave configuration will allow you to link fixtures together and operate without a controller In Master Slave operation one fixture will act as the controlling unit and the others will react to the controlling units programs Any unit can act as a Master or as a Slave These instructions are for On Board set up and IR Remote set up 1 Using standard XLR microphone cables daisy chain your units together via the XLR connector on the rear of the units Remember the Male XLR connector is the input and the Female XLR connector is the output The first unit in the chain master will use the female XLR connector only The last unit in the chain will use the male XLR connector only For longer cable runs we suggest a terminator at the last fixture 2 Select the fixture that you want to act as the Master and choose the mode of operation that you want to run 3 On the Slave fixtures press the MODE button until SLAv is displayed or using the IR Remote press the SLAVE button 4 The fixtures will now run in a Master Slave configuration American DJe www americandj com LED Messenger Instruction Manual Page 16 LED Messenger Editing Phrases To edit phrases you can use the included IR Remote or an optional keyboard with PS 2 connection Phrases rd 01 rd 10 are factory programmed phrases You are able to edit over
14. e the source volt age in your area matches the required voltage for your American DJe LED Messenger The American DJe LED Messenger is available in a 120v and 220v version Because line voltage may vary from venue to venue you should be sure your unit voltage matches the wall outlet voltage before attempting to operate you fixture Also be sure to only use the included I E C power cable supplied with the unit this cable matches the voltage and current requirements of the unit DMX 512 DMX is short for Digital Multiplex This is a universal pro tocol used by most lighting and controller manufactures as a form of communication between intelligent fixtures and controllers A DMX controller sends DMX data instructions from the controller to the fix ture DMX data is sent as serial data that travels from fixture to fixture via the DATA IN and DATA OUT XLR terminals located on all DMX fixtures most controllers only have a DATA OUT terminal DMX Linking DMX is a language allowing all makes and models of different manufactures to be linked together and operate from a single controller as long as all fixtures and the controller are DMX compliant To ensure proper DMX data transmission when using several DMX fixtures try to use the shortest cable path possible The order in which fixtures are connected in a DMX line does not influence the DMX addressing For example a fixture assigned a DMX adaress of 1 may be placed anywhere

18. in a DMX line at the beginning at the end or anywhere in the middle Therefore the first fixture controlled by the controller could be the last fixture in the chain When a fixture is assigned a DMX adaress of 1 the DMX controller knows to send DATA assigned to address 1 to that unit no matter where it is located in the DMX chain Data Cable DMX Cable Requirements For DMX and Master Slave Operation The LED Messen ger can be controlled via DMX 512 protocol The LED Messenger is a three channel DMX unit The DMX address is set electronically using the con trols on the rear of the unit Your fixture and your DMX controller require an approved DMX 512 110 Ohm Data cable for data input and data output Figure 1 Figure 1 We recommend Accu Cable DMX cables If you are making American DJe www americandj com LED Messenger Instruction Manual Page 6 LED Messenger Set Up your own cables be sure to use standard 110 120 Ohm shielded cable This cable may be purchased at almost all pro lighting stores Your cables should be made with a male and female XLR connector on either end of the cable Also remember that DMX cable must be daisy chained and cannot be split Notice Be sure to follow figures two and three when making your own cables Do not use the ground lug on the XLR connector Do not con nect the cable s shield conductor to the ground lug or allow the shield conductor to come in contact with the XLR s outer casing Groun
