AIS to iPhone Wi Fi Interface User Guide Model PPS 4 iP Congratulations on your purchase of the PORTABLE PILOT SOLUTIONS AIS Pilot Plug to iPhone iPad Wi Fi Interface Please read these instructions carefully before you operate your new AIS Pilot Plug Interface WARNING This electronic device is not designed for use near nor in contact with liquids of any kind It should be used only indoors or in sheltered spaces where it will remain dry iPhone iPad Wi Fi Network Setup Your Portable Pilot Solutions AIS Pilot Plug to iPhone iPad Wi Fi Interface has been pre configured to work with the APPLE iPhone iPad and iNavx charting application However prior to first using your Portable Pilot Solutions AIS Pilot Plug to iP Wi Fi Interface you will need to configure the Wi Fi client in your iPhone iPad Please follow these steps closely The Wi Fi unit in this AIS Interface does not require the use of a password 1 Plug in the AC Power Adapter of your AIS Pilot Plug to iP Wi Fi Interface Any voltage from 100 VAC to 240 VAC can be used Use one of the plug adapters to match the outlet socket you have It is not necessary to be plugged into an AIS Pilot Plug at this time 2 Onthe HOME screen tap the Settings icon il AT amp T E 8 08 c 3 From Settings go to Wi Fi Wi Fi OFF Ask to Join Networks ON Known networks will be joined automatically If no known networks are2. N Host 169 254 243 20 Port 2001 Disconnect Alarm Enable Waypoints AIS Targets Only 7 Slide the Link tab to ON It may be necessary to exit iNavX and re enter the TCP IP NMEA Client screen in order to get the Link tab to stay ON 8 Some versions of iNavX have a Re Connect Upon Unlock tab If your version has this tab set it to ON and tap the Save tab iNavX will return to the main setup screen If your version is missing the Re Connect tab you can safely skip this step 9 Follow the iNavX instructions to use the application Using iNavx With The PPS AIS Interface With the iPhone and iNavX configured as described above iNavX should automatically connect to the AIS Wi Fi Interface every time you start iNavX If it does not confirm the iPhone s iPad s Wi Fi is ON and you are connected to the PPSolutions Network Then go to the TCP IP NMEA Client screen in iNavX and slide the Link tab to ON and tap Save The TCP IP connection should also automatically re new and connect whenever the iPhone iPad exits sleep mode and directly enters iNavX If the TCP IP Connection is lost go to the TCP IP NMEA Client screen and slide the Link tab to ON and tap Save AIS to iPhone Wi Fi Interface User Guide Model PPS 4 iP Switchbox and LED Use A properly configured AIS Pilot Plug should output AIS data at a baud rate of 38 400 bps on Pilot Plug terminals 1 and 4 The two switche

8. s on the PPS 4 iP can be used to correct the most commonly seen mis wirings reversed Tx Tx reversed Tx Rx pairs and reversed Rx Rx The LED on the switchbox will indicate data is coming from the AIS Pilot Plug as follows GREEN Data is present with the correct polarity RED Data is present with the wrong polarity Try switching the position of the switch It is normal for the LED to periodically flicker with the color opposite the steady color indicated No color in the switchbox LED means no data is present Try switching the position of the Tx Rx switch The Wi Fi Interface should be connected to the AIS Pilot Plug and powered prior to starting the program it will be used with Power interruptions in the outlet supplying power to the Wi Fi rig can cause the connection with the portable device to be lost If this happens close and re start the program you are using with the Wi Fi device The PPS 4 iPhone AIS Interface does NOT correct for an incorrect baud rate setting The user s manual for the AIS should be consulted for the proper setup and settings of the AIS Pilot Plug Tips for using the PPS 4 iP with iNavX and the iPhone When the iPhone is networked to the PPS AIS to Wi Fi Interface the iPhone s Cellular and Instant Text Messaging Services can be used Exit iNavX go to the Home Screen of the iPhone and open the phone or text services application you want to use Internet browsing with
