2. chapter includes Introduction e Specifications e LCD Specification Connectors e Dimensions CHAPTER Chapter 1 Introduction 1 1 Introduction Advantech s FPM 3171G Series is a 17 color TFT LCD flat panel moni tor built specifically for industrial applications With the optional touch screen the FPM 3171G Series is an excellent and user friendly system control interface In addition to its usual application as an LCD panel monitor the FPM 3171G comes standard with Direct VGA interface which connects directly with popular PC VGA cards With the FPM 3171G Advantech is taking a more aggressive initiative to penetrate the industrial HMI mar ket Its OSD Onscreen Display function allows you to adjust the display factors and turn the backlight on and off for the front view functions which become critical as more and more industrial HMI users become aware of the benefits of flat panel monitors The whole chassis is of stain less steel and the front panel is of aluminum with NEMA4 IP65 compli ance An optional stainless steel front panel is also available The FPM 3171G Series has an optional resistive touchscreen With a resistive touchscreen the monitor can be immediately transformed into a remote control system FPM 3171G User Manual 2 1 2 Specifications General Control OSD On Screen Display control pad on front side Mounting Rack panel wallmount desktop and VESA arm Front Panel Aluminum NEMA4 IP6

FPM 3171G 11 Chapter 2 2 2 2 Swing ARM Detach the mounting brackets on the rear side then attach the FPM 3171G series onto the Swing ARM mount 75mm or 100mm sguare bracket Figure 2 5 Swing ARM for the FPM 3171G FPM 3171G User Manual 12 Appendix Touchscreen Driver Installation Appendix A Touchscreen Installation A 1 Introduction The FPM 3171G Series optional touchscreens uses advanced resistive and capacitive technology They provide more accurate sensing capacity than other technologies The touchscreen is specially designed for tough industrial environments and has been approved to FCC Class B When installing the capacitive touchscreen please follow appropriate procedures for calibrating and grounding the touchscreen Please refer to the Touch Ware manual on the CD ROM for details on installation A 1 1 Resistive Type Supply Voltage and Current e 5 Vdc nominal 4 50 Vdc to 5 25 Vdc Self powered only 50 mA standby typical at 5 Vdc during touch 160 mA average 240 mA peak e Average power dissipation is 0 5 W typical Supply must be capable of sourcing 400 mA minimum Total noise and ripple requirement must be less than 100 mV p p for frequencies below 1 MHz and less than 50 mV p p for freguen cies above 1 MHz Interface SERIAL EIA 232E Serial RS 232 DCE configuration 8 Data Bits 1 Stop Bit No Parity Full Duplex e Hardware handshaking RTS CTS DSR is

9. alibrate all controllers and or serial ports that were installed Press the Esc key on the keyboard to terminate or skip calibration for any monitor or allow the program to time out as indicated by the progress bar reaching maximum The program will continue until all controllers and or ports have been calibrated 21 AppendixA Multiple monitors serial and USB controllers 1 Run the self extracting zip file to unzip the files using the Run EloSetup option EloSetup will launch Check both the Install Serial Touchscreen Drivers and Install USB Touchscreen Drivers boxes Review and accept the License Agreement The program will appear to proceed as a single multiple serial con troller installation but USB files will also install The driver files will install When the Setup Complete screen appears you may choose to run calibration the Elo Video Align ment program EloVA immediately or wait until later If you choose not to run this program now you can run it from the Elo Control Panel application When EloVA runs for the first time it will attempt to calibrate all controllers and or serial ports that were installed Press the Esc key on the keyboard to terminate or skip calibration for any monitor or allow the program to time out as indicated by the progress bar reaching maximum The program will continue until all controllers and or ports have been calibrated Silent Install The EloSetup program for this driver m

12. box Elo Touchscreen Setup welcome to Elo Touchscreen Setup This program will install the Elo USB and Serial touchscreen drivers on your computer It is strongly recomended that you exit all Windows programs before running this Setup program Install USB Touchscreen Drivers Bac Cancel 3 Review and accept the License Agreement FPM 3171G User Manual 18 Check Auto detect Elo devices if your touchmonitor serial cable is connected to the computer and the serial cable supports hardware handshaking If you connect the serial cable later do not check the auto detect box Go to the next screen Elo Touchscreen Setup Select the COM ports to use with Elo serial touchscreens Check the Auto detection box if you want Setup to auto detect COM ports currently connected to Elo devices During Auto detection Setup will send data to each port which may temporarily interfere with some types of serial devices Click Next to continue lt Back Cancel A list of all the serial ports that the system detected is shown If you checked the auto detect box in the previous screen and your touch monitor serial cable is attached to the computer the COM port that you selected should be checked in the list If you agree with the selection click Next and proceed to the next screen The COM port you selected will be shown in the window of this screen This is your last opportunity to change your COM port selection before the

15. ds on screen do not impede touchscreen per formance Liquid Repellence Contact angle of 94 and greater measured using Sessile Drop Contact Angle Method This renders the screen extremely water repellent Operating Temperature Range 15 to 70 C for touch screen Storage Temperature Always store the touch screen sensor in its original shipping container between 50 and 85 C MIL STD 810E Never store touch sensors where condensation may form FPM 3171G User Manual 16 A2 Resistive Touchscreen Driver Installation A 2 1 Hardware Touchscreen controllers must be configured for the driver prior to instal 1 ation Elo typically ships controllers in a default setup that is compatible with this driver Controller requirements are Serial Serial controllers must conform to these minimum requirements e Baud rate 9600 baud Data format SMARTSET e Itis desirable for a full handshaking connection to be established between the touchscreen controller and the computer but it is not reguired The controller will function with this driver in a two wire Receive Data and Ground RxD and Gnd configuration The conse guences of a two wire connection are Automatic detection of the controllers on serial ports during setup is not possible Controller information will not be registered in the Property Page of the Control Panel USB USB controllers reguire no configuration prior to installation Elo s USB co

18. ntrollers are Human Interface Device HID compliant The Windows 2000 and Windows XP operating systems have native HID drivers that provide low level support for Elo touchscreen control lers An Elo touchmonitor with a USB touchscreen controller installed will provide the following limited operation with these native HID driv ers Operation of the controller will be limited without the installation of the software discussed in the next section The mouse cursor will move on the display in response to touch The direction of motion on the display will depend on the orientation of the touchscreen and the defaults programmed into the controller and the driver No beep will be heard when the screen is touched No Control Panel application is available to configure the operation of the driver 17 Appendix A A 2 2 Software There are many options to consider when installing the driver files This section will explain the most common ways that the driver is installed Consult Elo Applications Engineering for situations not covered in this section Setup from Windows Desktop For WinXP OS please execute CDROM TouchScreen DRV ELOTOUCH WinXP SetupElo exe For Win2000 OS please execute CDROM TouchScreen DRV ELOTOUCH Win2K SetupElo exe Single monitor serial controller 1 Run the self extracting zip file to unzip the files using the Run EloSetup option 2 EloSetup will launch Check the Install Serial Touchscreen Driv ers

20. se that the signals other than the preset timing that were entered Note 3 Because adjustments may not fit such as differing magnifying ratios or in the case that you use it except for the display timing that was preset FPM 3171G User Manual 28 C Appendix OSD Operation Keypad Appendix C OSD Operation Keypad C 1 OSD Operation Keypad The OSD keypad including six keys and a two color indicator is designed as the OSD operation interface The six keypad functions are in Table C 1 Auto Press this button to execute auto adjustment process Sel Press to show the OSD screen or select an item to change its setting lt gt To move between items or increase or decrease setting Exit This key has two functions 1 To exit from the current setting in OSD function 2 To switch the input source between RGB Video and S Video On OFF Turns display backlight ON and OFF Table C 1 Keypad functions Note 1 When the display ON OFF button is ON the constant green light means that the COMMON board detects the input signal and ends output signal to LCD panel The orange light means that the COMMON board does not detect the input signal Note 2 When the display ON OFF button is OFF the flashing green light means that the display backlight is OFF When the light shows no color the display is powered off Note 3 If auto setup would like to be selected please follow the proce dures below 1 Pre
