14. e For information about turning off the SJ 201P power while in the RS 232C communication mode refer to 6 5 Connecting with a Personal Computer 3 3 Calibration The process of calibration involves the measurement of a reference workpiece precision roughness specimen and the adjustment of the difference gain adjustment if there is one between the measured value and the reference value precision roughness specimen On the SJ 201P this difference can be easily adjusted through calibration measurement Depending on the usage of the SJ 201P calibration should be performed periodically In addition if the instrument is used for the first time or if the detector has been mounted replaced calibration is essential Without properly calibrating the instrument correct mea surements can not be obtained 3 3 1 Calibration preparation Use the supplied precision roughness specimen for calibration NOTE The precision roughness specimen supplied for the SJ 201P has been calibrated in accordance with the New JIS JIS B0601 1994 e If calibration needs to be performed with a standard other than the supplied precision roughness specimen it must only be done after the default calibration conditions have been modified so they are suitable for the roughness specimen For information about the procedure used to modify the calibrating conditions refer to 4 12 Modifying the Calibration Conditions E Setting up the precision roughne
