A DETAIL B FIGURE 4 4 Rolling Patient Onto His Her Side The EWC Lift System NOTE The patient s head should be positioned in the headrest just below the top edge for maximum comfort and the lower edge of the seat section positioned a few inches above the back of the patient s knees Refer to Detail A of FIGURE 4 3 on page 16 4 Roll the patient on to his her back Refer to Detail A of FIGURE 4 5 NOTE Assistants will reverse roles 5 After the patient has been positioned once again on his her back you now need to roll the patient to their right side facing the assistant on the left 6 With an assistant on each side of the bed and up against the mattress the assistant on the right hand side of the bed will elevate the left knee and position his her left hand on the elevated knee and his her right hand under the patient s left shoulder slowly push on the knee and assist with a slight lift of the shoulder and the patient will easily roll onto their side Refer to Detail B of FIGURE 4 5 7 Pull the fabrics of the seat and back across the mattress until they are smooth 8 Roll the patient onto their back and they should be approximately centered on the sling section Refer to Detail C of FIGURE 4 5 9 Position the lift for use Refer to Attaching Slings to Lifts on page 21 NOTE The lift must be positioned for use before the slings can be attached DETAIL A DETAIL B DETAIL

Unit 1000B has a lifting capacity of 1000 Ibs Never lift any person over the weight limit of your system Never lift more than the maximum sling capacity Doing so may cause injury to the person or damage to the lift system The nylon lift cord attached to the lift must be inspected daily Do not use lift if cord shows sign of wear Do not replace lift cord This is not a standard rope The cord should only be replaced by an EWC Lift Systems Technician This lift system is designed to be used with a sling or other lifting device Slings suitable for use include the brands Hoyer Invacare Drive Probasics Caregaurd Gaurdian Sunrise and Guldmann Standard polyester slings used for weighing transfer and toileting are suitable as well as nylon mesh bathing slings Most cases have had success using a four point sling Please see list included at the end of this manual Inspect any sling or lifting device attached to the lift system daily for tears abrasions and worn or non secure areas Avoid using the lift system until any such sling or lifting device has been repaired or replaced Be sure the power cord and control handle cord are in good condition Inspect daily Avoid using in wet conditions or exposing the electrical components of the lift system to moisture Route the power cord so that it is out of the way of other tools and equipment Take care to prevent damage to the power cord or control handle cord If ei
3. or sling gently 6 When you are directly over the desired location of transfer push the bottom of the switch on the control handle while guiding the person to the desired position with a gentle push and or pull Continue to lower until slack starts to appear in the rope STOP Check the positioning of the person moved If they need to be readjusted simply push the top side of the switch to lift the individual and reposition them as desired 8 When the person is in the desired position simply push the bottom of the switch on the control handle only until enough slack is present to disconnect the sling or gait belt 9 Move the lift by pulling on the T bar to a position in the room where it is out of the way The EWC Lift System use cont d 10 Push the top side of the switch on the control handle to raise the t bar high enough so it does not cause a head clearance problem in the room 11 In the event that power is lost during lifting process use the provided ratcheting tool to manually lower the patient Unplug unit prior to using ratchet tool Insert the tool item 1 into the labeled opening photo 2 on the end of the motor cover Ratchet the tool in a clock wise direction and the patient will lower Be sure the person is lowered onto a safe surface Item 1 Photo 2 You have now been able to safely and easily move an immobile person With a little practice the EWC LIFT SYSTEM will become your ba

C FIGURE 4 5 Rolling Patient Onto His Her Opposite Side and Back The EWC Lift System A WARNING if the patient is in a wheelchair secure the wheel locks in place to prevent the wheelchair from moving forward or backwards gemere en eane eanes vananema a me ae RTE 1 The rear wheel locks of the wheelchair are locked to prevent movement of the wheelchair 2 With the patient sitting in a wheelchair one assistant in the front and the other assistant in the back lean the patient forward Refer to Detail A NOTE The front assistant will be supporting the weight of the patient FIGURE 5 2 Rear Wheel Locks 3 Place the divided leg sling behind the patient with grab handle on the outside and bring the flaps out alongside the patient s legs Refer to Detail B NOTE Toileting slings have a waist buckle which helps hold the sling in place during positioning NOTE For the Divided Leg Sling The back of the sling should be parallel to the patient s upper arms and be positioned between the top of the patient s head and the base of the spine NOTE For the Toileting Sling The back of the sling should be parallel to the patient s upper arms and be positioned between the top of the patient s midback and the base of the spine 4 With the back of the sling positioned properly push the bottom of the back section to the seat 5 Lean the patient back into the wheelchair with the assistant in the r

6. ck saving companion You won t be able to imagine being without it while the people you care for will enjoy the feeling of safety that grows with every use Warranty Provisions for System Defects Warranties and Limitation of Remedies and Liability 1 a Limited Warranty EWC Lift Systems EWC warrants to the original Buyer that the EWC System the System shall be free from defects in materials and workmanship for one year after the System is delivered to the Buyer the Warranty Period This warranty gives you specific legal rights and you may also have other rights which vary from state to state b Limitation of Warranties THE FOREGOING WARRANTY IS IN LIEU OF ALL OTHER WARRANTIES OR OBLIGATIONS EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED EWC EXPRESSLY DISCLAIMS ALL IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF PERFORMANCE NONINFRINGEMENT MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE Any implied warranties found to exist are herby limited in duration to the Warranty Period Some states do not allow limitations on how long an implied warranty lasts so the above limitation may not apply to you c Remedies During the Warranty Period EWC shall replace repair or at EWC s option refund or credit the price the Buyer paid for any System or part of a System the Price that does not comply with the warranty set forth in Section 1 a At EWC s request and expense the Buyer shall return the System or part of the System to be replac

10. es do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages so the above limitation or exclusion may not apply to you e Exclusive Remedy THIS SECTION 1 STATES EWC S SOLE OBLIGATION AND BUYER S EXCLUSIVE REMEDY FOR SYSTEM DEFECTS The warranty and remedies are available only to the original Buyer f Service Contract Following the Warranty Period and subject to EWC s inspection of the System following the Warranty Period EWC and the Buyer may enter into a service contract for the System under which EWC may but shall not be required to agree to service all or some of the System following the Warranty Period The EWC Lift System EWC Lifts Systems may be used with the following slings and lifting harnesses Most of the mentioned sling types come in two types Standard use Polyester and Mesh for bathing 1 Polyester standard for lifting for transfers weighing and toileting EWC models 500S and HSNF may be used with sizes small medium large and extra large Most slings are rated to a weight limit of 450 Ibs Models 800M and 1000B must be used with higher limit slings See labeling on individual slings for appropriate weight limits 2 Nylon Mesh used for bathing The same weight limits apply as above 3 The following sling brands will each have separate descriptions as to how to place a patient prior to lifting The recommendations for each brand should be followed as per the manufa
11. llow the sling and or gait belt manufactures directions for the actual placement of the device on a patient to be lifted with the EWC Lift System The EWC Lift System is a simple system that when attached properly can be used to safely move an immobile person with one caregiver The movement up and down is done with a switch on a hand held controller The movement around the room is done by simply pulling the T bar in the direction you wish it to go 1 Pull T bar into position over the person to be moved the lift with center itself over the person being lifted when the lift is put into motion 2 Hook the sling loops onto the appropriate hooks on the t bar The loops on the sling can vary the strap in length The loop you choose to use will determine how upright the person being lifted will be in the sling 3 Push the switch on the hand controller into the up position The lift will center itself over the person being lifted and remove the slack from the lifting rope STOP WHEN THE SLACK IS REMOVED FROM THE ROPE Check for proper attachment of sling and that the person to be moved is comfortable All body parts arms legs hands etc should be out of the way and not obstructing the lift 4 Push the top side of the switch on the control handle until the person is clear from the object they were on bed chair wheelchair etc 5 Move the person to the location desired by simply pulling and or pushing on the person
12. ther cord becomes damaged have repairs made by qualified personal before using the lift system Stay clear of lift cord during operation Keep clothing jewelry hair and hands clear of lift cord during operation Be certain the person being lifted is free and clear of any nearby possible obstructions Never stand underneath a person being lifted KEEP AREA IN WHICH THE LIFT SYSTEM IS LOCATED CLEAN Cluttered areas invite injuries KEEP CHILDREN AWAY Children must never be allowed to handle any part or operate the lift system STRANGULATION HAZARD All slings and other hanging parts of the system must be kept out of the reach of children and others who may become tangled in them Slings and other hanging parts can present a hazard of strangulation and should never be looped around the neck or head DO NOT FORCE THE SYSTEM The lift system will do its job more safely at the rate for which it was intended Do not use inappropriate attachments in an attempt to exceed the systems capacities USE THIS LIFT SYSTEM ONLY FOR THE FUNCTION WHICH IT WAS DESIGNED TO PERFORM The lift system was designed to perform the function of moving an immobile person Never use the lift system for a purpose for which it was not intended The EWC Lift System USE The EWC Lift System is used to aid in the transfer of an immobile person due to a variety of medical conditions This manual covers use of the EWC Lift System ONLY Please read and fo
