1. 6050 Dublin Boulevard Dublin CA 94568 Technical assistance 925 479 6379 www arlenness com 01 590 TORPEDO AXLE COVER KIT 2000 UP SOFTAIL MODELS Thank you for purchasing this Arlen Ness product We believe that our products are the very best available and are engineered to provide a lifetime of use Our Torpedo axle cover kit is easy to install and dramatically cleans up the rear axle flange area with a custom look These covers are easily removable allowing for ease of maintenance Basic hand tools and a service manual appli cable to your model of motorcycle are all that is necessary to complete the installation If you ride a custom built bike please call our Technical Assistance department and they will be able to recommend the best service manual to use with your motorcycle BILL OF MATERIALS Part Quantity Description 01 590 1Z 2 Axle bracket zinc 01 590 2C 2 Torpedo axle cover chrome H 346C 4 10 flat washer chrome H 368Z 2 1 4 lock washer zinc HOSSA 2 1 4 20 x 3 4 hex head cap screw zinc H 832C 4 10 32 x 1 2 button head cap screw chrome MAINTENANCE TIP To keep your new Torpedo axle covers looking their best we recommend applying a high quality chrome polish to them every time you detail your motorcycle STEP 1 Two special brackets hold the Torpedo axle cover in place as detailed in the photo This photo shows the locations of the bracket and clamp tab as they are installed inside the cover and is for a v2. isual exam ple only To begin the installation loosen the axle adjusters as outlined in the procedure listed in the appropriate service manual for your year and model of motorcycle AXLE ADJUSTER BRACKET STEP 2 Install the axle adjuster bracket as shown The bracket is clamped between the axle adjuster jam nut and the swingarm boss Tighten the jam nut as specified in the procedure listed in the appropri ate service manual for your year and model of motorcycle Once these brackets have been installed on both sides of the swingarm it may also be necessary to verify rear wheel alignment and belt chain tension as specified in your service manual 01 590 TORPEDO AXLE COVER KIT 2000 UP SOFTAIL MODELS STEP 3 Using two chrome button head cap screws and two chrome washers per cover apply Loctite 242 Blue to the threads of the screws and secure the axle cover as shown Tighten securely and repeat this step for each cover STEP 4 Now install the rear clamping tab using the hex head cap screw and lock washer provided in this kit Apply Loctite 242 Blue to the threads of this screw and thread it into the cover along with the clamping tab as shown The tab registers inside a notch in the cover and extends over the axle flange on the swing arm Tighten this screw securely and repeat this step for each cover your Torpedo axle covers are now fully installed
