1. This s the late model CR250 1992 to 2000 Unlike earlier models there is no manual engagement bolt However there s still an actuating rod in the cases and cylinder which must align propery This is a layout of the CR250 Qs to 1991 This system uses a complicated rack and pinion linkage to control the rectangular v left and nght exhaust ports The cylinder and crankcase actuating joint have to be ey itan ously with controls on the cylinder This s view of the forked actuating rod from the This s the correct position of the boltom of the cylinder Notice that it 1s cracked Thal 1988 to 1991 Honda CR250 HPP happened because the cylinder was tightened down pinion shafts when the cylinder is with the actuating rods out of alignment This part seated on the cases correctly needs to be replaced 113 TWO STROKE TOP END REBUILDING You can quickly check the operation of the HPP system of a late model CR250 1992 to 2000 wn ow 17 mm cap bolt from the left side of the cylinder The L and H marks stamped on the cylinder indigate and high pm positions of the valves The line carved in the center rod is the left HPP valve s G the engine with this cover removed to check the valves but don t let it gel exposed to dirt This s a layout of the CR250 1992 to 2000 HPP system The center valve pivots from one end and a rod through the front center of the valve links the two sub exhaust vaives The center valve

Modern bikes use external than internal rotor flywh els so have greater Mywheel inertia A makes an internal rotor flywheel gives quicker rhrorele respons Sa IGNITION TIMING The ignition cim Qa a minimal effect on the powdkad Retarding the timing has th F reducing the hit of the p hen in the midrange and extending he top end over rev Over rev is a sing term thar describes the useable length of the powerband ac high rpm The scientific reason for che shift of the powerband to extremely high rpm is that the remperature in the pipe with che retarded timing because the burn cycle cakes about 55 degrees of crankshafi roration When increases the timing is retarded the burn cy 142 rotor Q and conrinues into the pipe flywheels They bave a larger diame ne fog the exhaust gas temperature y Ye ises the velocity of the waves making them mote synchronous with the piston speed and pore timing of the cylinder Advancing the timing increases the midrange hit of the powerband but makes the power flarcen out at high rpm The tclatively long spark lead time enables for a greater pressure rise in the cylinder before ches TDC l his produces more torque in the midrange but the high the piston tea pressure contributes to pumping losses at extremely high rpm ENGINE MANAGE SYSTEMS Motorcycle engines have always been at the forefront of engine design The next leap will come in
