1. CLIMBING HILLS The vehicle can overturn more easily on extremely steep hills than on level surfaces or small hills Practice on smaller hills before attempting larger hills and never operate the ATV on hills too steep for the ATV or for your abilities E Speed up and maintain a steady speed before reaching the top of the hill You must ride at a steady speed all the way to the top of the hill E Shift your body forward by sliding forward on the seat Lean slightly forward For steep hills stand on the foot rests and lean forward E Do not open the throttle suddenly or make sudden gear changes This could cause the ATV to flip over back wards E Slow down gradually when you reach the top of the hill An obstacle sharp drop or another vehicle or person could be on the other side of the hill If you lose all forward speed E Keep weight uphill E Apply brakes E Lock parking brake after you are stopped If you begin rolling backward E Keep weight uphill E Apply brakes E Dismount on uphill side or if pointed straight uphill to either side E TurntheATV around and remount following the procedure described in the operator s manual 16 English OPERATION DESCENDING HILLS E Check the terrain carefully for any obstacles before you go down the hill E Point the ATV straight down the hill Avoid going down a hillat an angle that would cause the vehicle to lean sharply to one

NOTE Do not operate the engine without the air filter ele ments in place Rapid engine wear will result CAUTION Always check the air filter element after riding in severe conditions and clean or replace as needed Operating the ATV with a clogged air filter could cause engine damage Checking the air filter There is a clear air filter check cap at the bottom of the air filter case If there is dust or water in this cap empty the cap and clean the air filter element and case Air filter removal and cleaning Remove the seat to gain access to the air filter box Remove the air filter cover and set aside Remove the air filter from the box Remove the foam pre filter from the paper air filter ele ment Tap the air filter element gently to remove most of the dust and dirt Use compressed air to blow out remaining dust If the element is damaged it should be replaced Wash the foam pre filter gently in water or a mild non flammable solvent Squeeze out water and allow pre filter to dry Reinstall foam pre filter over the paper air filter element Replace the air filter element in the box Make sure the element is securely in position and the air filter is properly sealed CLUTCH ADJUSTMENT E Loosen the lock nut E Slowly rotate the adjusting bolt counterclockwise until resistance is felt then rotate 1 8 turn 45 clockwise E Tighten the lock nut and torque to 10 8 ft lb 15 Nm KS 2

PROTECTOR Allow the engine lubricant to circulate before riding Allow enough idling time after warm or cold engine starting This allows the lubricant to reach all critical engine components Observe and document your initial and most critical ser vice The initial service break in maintenance is the most important service that your vehicle will receive Observing a proper break in operating will help engine components seal properly Maintenance required as part of the initial service includes proper adjustments tightening of all bolts and nuts and replacement of dirty oil Timely performance of this ser vice will help you get the best service life and performance of the engine A WARNING Always inspect your ATV according to the pre ride inspec tion checklist each time before riding and make sure it is in a safe operating condition Failure to inspect the ATV before operating could increase the chance of an ac cident resulting in serious personal injury or equipment damage 12 English OPERATION A WARNING Always use the size and type of tires specified in this Operator s Manual Always maintain proper tire pressure as described in the Maintenance section of this manual and on the unit Operating this ATV with improper tires or improper tire air pressure could be hazardous If you use improper tires or improper air pressure you may lose control of the ATV and cause an accident which could result in serious

Fi FLV AS ps OEN SS Sl LOCK NUT GA ESSAS Zs Aog Cy MA A ARE fi NA NOA XX q aN IN Sy ie SEAN o N N BOLT 25 English MAINTENANCE REAR GEAR CASE LUBRICATION To check add rear gear case lubricant E Place vehicle on level ground E Remove gear case fill cap E Inspect lubricant level Lubricant level should be up to the brim of the hole If lubricant is low add specified lubricant SAE 80API G 4 Hypoid gear lubricant until level reaches the brim E Replace cap and torque to 17 ft lb 23 Nm To change gear lubricant Place vehicle on level ground Remove gear case cover Place container under gear case Remove fill cap Remove oil plug Let lubricant drain out completely Reinstall the drain plug and tighten to 18 ft Ib 24 Nm Add lubricant as described previously A WARNING Check for leaks in the gear case and keep lubricant up to the prescribed level Failing to have the proper amount of gear lubricant in the rear case will cause excessive wear on the gears and could cause the gears to seize resulting in serious personal injury rn TIRE MAINTENANCE This ATV is equipped with low pressure tubeless tires of the size and type listed below Size AT22x8 10 AT22 x 11 10 Tire Air Pressure Check the air pressure in all tires before riding Improper air pressure will affect handling steering

GENERAL La lubricaci n correcta es importante para un funcionamiento seguro y sin problemas adem s de una larga vida til de su veh culo Aseg rese de realizar una lubricaci n completa durante el mantenimiento peri dico del veh culo Aumente la cantidad de intervalos cuando use su ATV en condiciones exigentes Su centro de servicio autorizado debe realizar la lubricaci n general como se muestra en el Cuadro de mantenimiento Esto incluye la lubricaci n de los cojinetes de las ruedas cojinetes del brazo oscilante sujetador del eje de la direcci n cables etc Lubrique las siguientes reas con aceite o grasa como se indica Conector inferior del eje de la direcci n lubrique con grasa a base de litio Li E Cable de los frenos E Cable del acelerador E Palanca del acelerador TRANSPORTE Es mejor trasladar el ATV en su posici n normal de funcionamiento E Drene el combustible del carburador e Gire la v lvula de combustible a la posici n OFF apagado e Apague el motor e Coloque un recipiente apto debajo del tornillo de drenaje del carburador e Afloje el tornillo y deje que el combustible del carburador drene completamente e Vuelva a apretar el tornillo de drenaje del carburador E Trabe la palanca del freno de estacionamiento m Amarre bien el ATV por las cuatro ruedas con correas sogas o cualquier otro medio apropiado Use amarres adicionales si va a trasladar el veh culo en posici n verti

Remove the rags or wrapping from the exhaust pipe CAUTION Failure to remove the rags or wrapping from the exhaust pipe could result in failure of the exhaust system E Remove the drain plug from the air filter box to allow any standing water to drain Replace the drain plug when draining is finished E Lubricate according to General Lubrication section E Follow the procedures in Pre Ride Inspection to check the unit for any problems that may have occurred during your last ride E After washing your ATV test your brakes by riding at a slow speed If necessary apply brake several times to let the friction dry out the brake linings Wet brakes may not provide as much stopping power as dry brakes A WARNING Operating the ATV at high speeds when the brakes are wet could result in serious personal injury STORING THE ATV If you do not use the ATV for a long time it will need special service requiring appropriate materials equipment and skill For this reason we recommend you trust this maintenance work to an authorized service center If you wish to service the machine for storage yourself follow the general guidelines VEHICLE MH Place the vehicle on level ground MH Wash the vehicle FUEL E Drain the fuel from the fuel tank using a hand pump E Drain the fuel from the carburetor by releasing the carbu retor drain screw TIRES E Inflate the tires to the normal pressure A WARNING Check the tire pres

Wear Steering System Chassis Inspect and clean adjust lubricate or replace as necessary E Emissions compliance related component C Clean R Replace A Adjust L Lubricate CAUTION If you operate your ATV under severe conditions it will need maintenance more often than shown in the chart above Severe conditions include operating under frequent full throttle or in dusty wet sandy or muddy areas If you have questions regarding appropriate maintenance intervals for your ATV contact your Baja authorized service center or Baja Motorsports 20 English MAINTENANCE A WARNING Before inspecting cleaning or servicing the ATV shut off engine wait for all moving parts to stop and disconnect and properly ground the spark plug wire Failure to follow these instructions can result in serious personal injury or property damage SPARK PLUG Your ATV is equipped with a DR8EA spark plug To deter mine if the standard spark plug is in good condition check the color of the plug s center electrode insulator after vehicle operation A brown color indicates that the plug is correct A white or dark insulator indicates that the engine may need adjustment or another plug type may be needed Consult your authorized dealer or Baja Motorsports if your plug insulator is not a light brown color NOTE This ATV uses a resistor type spark plug to avoid jamming electronic parts Improper spark plug selection may cause elect
