40. r partition des ceuvres des concerts exc dants cette norme sera calcul e au prorata Les autres facteurs consid rent le nombre d interpr tes requis pour l ex cution d une uvre en concert l quation 6 Preliminary Report on the Serious Music Distribution Status AdHoc Revision Committee at CAPAC This preliminary report is only presented here for your information and for elements of reflection The Serious Music Distribution Status Ad Hoc Revision Committee composed of one member from the Board of Directors of CAPAC one representative of the Canadian League of Composers one from ACREQ and one from the CEC is presently completing a series of suggestions and modifications to the current by laws These recommendations will be presented to the Board of Directors of CAPAC during its May meeting in Vancouver The committee is currently focused on the evaluation and weighting of various elements and aspects related to the performance of works in concert This is done to establish a more equitable distribution of the performing rights between serious music composers This work is still in progress For a few years the Board of Directors of CAPAC has passed many by laws to control the credit allocation to electroacoustic works by law 47 the distribution of performing rights for the performance of multi media works 65 the performance of electroacoustic works 7 73 and 78 and the distri
41. to define new weighting criteria that would be more equitable to all serious music orchestral chamber solo electroacoustics etc The first weighting factor was to establish a ceiling to the number of credits allocated per concert This ceiling is based on a normal contemporary music concert length of 90 minutes of music or 165 distributed credits More extended concerts over 90 minutes will have the distribution of the works performed calculated at prorata Other factors include the numbers of performers needed for the performance of a work in concert the equation being that a work requiring a larger number of performers will not be presented as often as a work requiring a lesser number and the capacity of the concert space based again on an equation relating numbers the production of concerts in large spaces is more costly thus not as frequent than the one in smaller spaces These two factors would rebalance the evaluation of each work the credit allocation and of each concert the financial value given to the allocated credits The new credit allocation scale offers five categories which weighting variables towards the actual allocation are 90 for solo work or work for tape alone Category 1 1 performer 95 for the works requiring from 2 to 4 performers Category 2 100 being the present allocation for the works requiring from 5 to 10 performers Category 3 105 of the present
