5. ssly integrate both real and virtual worlds To fulfill this ambitious goal however a considerable amount of sensory information processing research remains to be done We propose to address some of the problems that arise when working towards fully immersive mixed reality So far most of these systems are stationary i e the mixed reality is experienced via stationary displays projections simulators etc On the other hand the concept of mixed reality is particularly interesting for mobile applications and services where virtual elements are overlaid over the real world view Examples are virtual interactive devices virtual PDA laptop communicator etc virtual city guides augmented sight seeing and remote assistance Objective development of a MR system for augmented multimedia communication that performs insertion of non deformable natural or synthetic objects into the real environment through overlays and efficient and natural interaction with such objects Using advances in image processing it would be possible to both enjoy a compact form factor and a virtually unlimited display size In addition the same technology allows for features such as interaction with natural and synthetic objects in a scene useful for many today s and tomorrow s applications The objective of this integrated project is to move closer to such an ideal situation by making use of the concepts developed in media and interface technologies The central p
