12. ade neces sary a harmonization of the two documents The steps The first discussions between CEN TC 138 France and ISO TC 135 Japan Canada started in 2007 In order to accelerate the harmoniza tion process two working groups were created in 2009 one in CEN and the other in ISO both having a French convenor Since their crea tion the two groups have held joint meetings and the harmonized stan dard was published in June 2012 the French version being issued in August of the same year Things to remember The structure of the two initial docu ments being the same it seems easier to list the points on which modifications were brought section after section in each document Essential preliminary terminology was harmonized infrared thermo graphic testing and strain gauge testing were added in the scope of the unique standard Responsibilities of the certifica tion body the authorized quali fying body and the examination centre were clarified They include e All matters related to the opera ting authorization e The results of NDT operations e The verification of continuous operation in the NDT method without significant interruption e The assurance that the person holds a valid certification in rela tion to his activities in the organi zation e The annual verification of visual acuity requirements Certification to the standard deli vers a confirmation of the general competence of the ND

18. he job of an NDE inspector Driss Jabar the role of the level 2 NDE ins pector is to detect embedded or surface breaking anomalies for that he implements methods such as penetrant testing ultraso nic testing or magnetic particle testing in accordance with case specific procedures methods and standards The selection of the method and or the technique imple mented will depend on the type of material to be inspected but also of its shape and the location of the discontinuities When a discontinuity is detected and eva luated as an anomaly the operator will size it and characterise it This work is performed during manufactu ring or in service without jeopardising the integrity of the inspected part What qualities make a good inspector Driss Jabar a good inspector must show cer tain qualities first of all he must be rigo rous scrupulous and respectful of orders while showing strong capacities of analysis synthesis and autonomy Don t forget of course that he must listen and be open to others when for instance relations with customers are concerned What are the positive aspects and the constraints of the job Driss Jabar understand my job of ins pector in terms of listening to the metal soundness It is very rewarding to work and know that this work will help validate the quality of parts delivered by the company to our customers Furthermore this job includes variety in both the techniques we
