Les jeunes parti cipants europ ens DEUX TIERS DES JEUNES EUROP ENS SE SENTENT ATTA CHES A L EUROPE WHO ARE THESE 16 22 YEAR OLDS IN EUROPE 16 in most European countries is the mi nimum school leaving age and the gra dual start of working life It is also the start of the journey to adulthood even though this threshold is cultural and consequently varies from one European country to another Various studies by French sociologists and others comparing European countries see bibliography paint a picture full of contrasts of this Roverway generation Contrary to prevailing opinion far from being selfish and defeatist young people are optimistic and concerned about their neighbour they need to be allowed to make their contribution Young people are particularly attracted by the voluntary sector They view it as an im portant part of democracy and a valuable place in which to express what is impor tant to them as citizens Consequently central to the planning of Roverway has been the need to create opportunities and projects in which young people can experience independence and assume responsibilities and which also allow them to express themselves and work on ambitious subjects tunity for young people 82 of 15 30 year olds in France want to be involved in making so ciety better 53 of young people mainly want to get involved to make themselves usful and 49 want to s

TS FOR ROVERWAY YOUNG PEOPLE REFLECTING GETTING INVOLVED AND TAKING ACTION For Roverway participants involvement might take the form of giving time to an organization charity student political etc but much more important might also take on a profoundly vocational shape that will have decisive effect on their lives friendship emotional spiritual to creating a positive image of Scouting and Guiding as committed and dynamic movements We want everyone to feel welcome and involved and to emphasise diversity especially in regards to social categories ethnic social religion etc which are not yet fully integrated ROVERWAY WON T STOP IN 2016 WORKING OUT YOUR ROUTE Encourage young adults to want to get involved by giving meaning to them Roverway will provide participants with points of reference amongst the various ways they could get involved and things they could do in their local community society and the world Roverway will help participants to reflect individually and as a patrol on what makes them get involved and what angers them in today s society They will be encouraged to reflect on what Scouting and Guiding means to them specifically being active citizens involved in society Roverway will not stop at the end of 2016 We will therefore encourage young people individually and as patrols to be representatives of the spirit of Roverway when they get back home and thus become ambassad

16. nd the event itself It is vital to manage this joint effort se riously and that means allowing them to contribute with suggestions as indi viduals and patrols evaluate proposals and make their choices supporting them all the way through the process Assu ming responsibilities and participation by young people will be our leading principles for what we do and the event itself Consequently we need to instil in as many participants as possible the desire to build Roverway jointly and offer them as many opportunities to get involved in the process as possible SIMPLY ROVERS AND RANGERS An event that stresses being rather than having Our recent international events have stressed the fundamen tals of Scouting and Guiding and the importance of the simpli city of Guiding and Scouting It is also a major concern at the heart of the five associations of Scoutisme Frangais that young people and especially young adults and the leaders of tomor row should be deeply involved in the sustainable management of our environment Roverway will also follow this path in joint construction with participants We want to follow these guide lines in building the event jointly with young adults We believe that Scouting and Guiding allow us to live simply and unostentatiously stressing being rather than having We want to operate in such a way that young people are not just aware of this but also want to apply these prin
