HIAI 1 Department of Adult Nursing Acute Stage Toyama Medical and Pharmaceutical University 2 Division of Nursing Nagoya University Hospital 3 Department of Oriental Medicine Toyama Medical and Pharmaceutical University 4 Department of Human Science Toyama Medical and Pharmaceutical University 5 Department of Public Health Toyama Medical and Pharmaceutical University Abstract We carried out an epidemiological study on the latex sensitized children through the analyses of answers on the questionnaire obtained from 405 children with the mean age of 12 6 years in Toyama Prefecture As much as 191 responders 49 1 showed either symptom of the immediate type allergy Especially 80 responders 19 8 were classified into latex sensitized group LSG because their symptoms were induced by latex related products such as sticking plaster and rubber gloves and balloons LSG was 4 6 years younger and showed a significantly higher prevalence rate of allergic diseases than the remaining 325 children Although most of them suffered from cheilo dermato rhino ocular and or asthma like symptoms with the duration time of 1 to several days 4 children answered anaphylaxis like symptoms low blood pressure and unconsciousness To control these symptoms they avoided the use of causative latex related products or consulted with doctors but no children received diagnostic tests of latex allergy Most children and their parents 92 1 have
