1. m Telecom Australia TELEMETER OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS FOR PRIVATE TELEPHONE CALL CHARGE METER E contents Introduction Putting into operation Basic functions Time display Charge display Number of calls General reset Changing batteries page 11 12 13 s Introduction The Telemeter Type 4 is designed to record metering pulses transmitted from the telephone exchange to your telephone On local telephone calls one metering pulse per call is transmitted normally at the time the called party answers On some older exchanges the pulse is transmitted at the time the telephone handset is replaced On Subscriber Trunk Dialling STD and a International Direct Dial IDD calls multiple metering pulses are transmitted at variable rates depending on the time of the day that the call is made and the destination of the call Please consult the information pages of your telephone directory for details of STD and IDD call rates No metering pulses are transmitted on operator connected calls The Telemeter Type 4 can show the cost of calls by setting the appropriate standard call charge unit see page 6 With the call charge unit set the Telemeter dispiays the cost of each call and will also retain a record of the total cost of all calls made If you desire by setting the call charge unit to 1 0 the Telemeter will display the number of metering pulses received Additiona
2. lly the Telemeter is capable of showing the total number of telephone calls made see page 11 While the telephone is hung up or following the pressing of the white button on the completion jas a call the Telemeter operates as a clock soo page 7 The method for setting of the clock is explained on page 7 Hi Putting into operation dai Open the cover The cover is opened by removing the cover retaining screw and pressing the grooved part on the right of the cover This affords access to the line connections the battery box the buttons C oand to the main reset button in opening a Putting into operation E Place the two alkaline batteries type R6 AA in the socket paying due attention to polarity All the figures and signs should now appear on the display for 1 second The clock starts working begin ning at zero For setting time see page 7 Connect to the telephone line Consult the wiring diagram 3 L in L in line to the exchange terminals and 3 L out L out line to the telephone terminals 5 and 4 ES earth for 50 Hz charges terminal 2 L in L in L out K E Basic functions Charge unit recording From the time an outgoing call is estab lished the Telemeter display will show the total cost of that call based on the number of metering pulses received and the call charge unit programmed into

4. ost of calls made Therefore you may wish to note the meter reading before changing the call charge unit Charge display Hei Open the cover by removing the cover retaining screw and pressing the grooved part on the right side of the cover Press the button to enter the program ming mode Press the white button a dot will appear on the right of the first figure to b justed Press the red button once the figure will increase by one unit Each successive depression causes the figure to increase by a further unit It is important to allow a sufficiently long delay between each depression more than one secona Press the white button the dot appears on the right of the next number Proceed as above until this number is set as desired The same procedure applies for the third number The number of decimal places is indi cated by the position of the dot Displace itby successively pressing the white button until it is in the desired position In order that the call charge unit may be taken into account it is essential for the dot to appear ogne display I Charge display Press buttonC0 a second time to quit the programming mode The normal mode is restored The symbol D appears on the display Reclose the cover and replace the cover retaining screw Note Inthe normal mode it is always possible to make the call charge unit appear by pressing the red and white butto
5. the unit On the completion of a call pressing and holding down the white button will reset the individual call counter and the total call counter will be displayed When the white button is released the unit returns to the clock mode Time display Setting the clock Open the cover by removing the cover retaining screw and pressing the grooved part on the right side of the cover Press button a once On the display a dot appears next to the hour figure a Set the desired hour by pressing the red button To increase more rapidly to the desired number keep the red button pressed Release the button at least two figures before the desired number and adjust to the final desired number by brief successive pressure Press the button Y a second time The dot now appears next to the minutes Adjust the minutes to the desired number in the same manner as the hour Press the button Ya third time The dot now appears nextto the seconds Pressing a fourth time causes the dot to vanish and the clock to start running Reclose the cover and replace the cover retaining screw Hi Charge display at yp The charge for a call and the accumulated cost of all calls made can be obtained by setting the appropriate call charge unit Details of call charges are located in the front of your telephone directory Note Any change in the setting of the call charge unit will clear the previously accumulated total c
