The solution is to convert these images with calibration to RMAP format which allows you to work only with the area you are viewing and then save memory 3D maps relief have their own formats CompeGPS Land Air is compatible with the following DEM Digital Elevation Model CDEM this is a CompeGPS own format similar to DEM but with higher compression ratios 3DR a CompeGPS custom format composed of contour lines of topographic maps 3DR HDR DAT and HGT 7 1 3 Calibration When you calibrate a map you are situating it in the global space in other words you are situating it on the earth s surface To do this you have to know the exact coordinates of at least 2 or 3 points of the map The bitmap image will be tallied to the coordinate system so that the information contained in the map coincides with the program s reference system All maps used by CompeGPS must have a calibration system incorporated so that they can best adjust the GPS indications to the coordinates of the map in view 7 1 4 What is an index map An index map is chosen by you to act as a reference when you work with CompeGPS Preferably you should turn the map you most frequently use into the index map so you can easily situate yourself on the terrain were you usually work The index map can be open with a single click thus making it accessible at all times so that positioning yourself when you work with CompeGPS will be easier and quicker
