10. he CD ROM can be used either in conjunction with other Magic Grandad resources from the respected BBC series or independently Designed to develop a growing historical awareness in younger pupils the CD ROM supports e Chronological understanding Using common words and phrases relating to the passing of time e Identifying different ways in which the past is represented e Finding out about the past from a range of sources of information Using historical knowledge to communicate in a variety of ways Whole Class The Click and Explore sections of each activity provide realistic representations of old and new toys and offer excellent stimuli and resources for class discussions on the many differences between toys today and in the past The Click and Explore scenes are particularly suitable for interactive whiteboard use due to the inclusion of the forward arrow that enables users to control the amount of time spent in this section Q SHERSTON Group Work The design of the Click and Explore section will encourage groups of children to investigate discuss and evaluate their historical knowledge and thinking The questioning style of the narration can be used to initiate group work and debates The nine tasks on the CD ROM are ideal for small groups of children to tackle collaboratively Their work could be recorded using the Pupil s Book with the children noting down key points of their discussions using the tex
