17. of the available answers to create a different Base population The first box contains Main Demographics Sex Age Ethnicity NS SEC Level the second box contains Additional Demographic bases and the third box contains specific Sector Bases You can only select one answer from each box If you select an answer from more than one box the answers chosen will be combined together using an AND operator In NETQuest AND is used where you wanis to restrict a definition to a certain group In other words only those who have responded to the selected answers will be included in the definition Think carefully about whether you need to use a specific base For example the levers questions for each sector are only asked of people who engaged in that sector while the barriers questions are only asked of people who didn t engage So if you are interested in barriers to arts attendance use the base Arts events not attended in last 12 months If you include levers or barriers in a Cross tabulation Table without the correct base then the percentages will be calculated using all adults i e including people who weren t asked the questions For more information about the base for each question see the NETQuest bases document within the survey Dictionary In the example below the Base population is Female AND Urban AND have been to a Library in last 12 months The population that has been defined is all Females that live in the City Urban and
