Instructions for Using 558CA Butyl Adhesive Tape to Seal Flexible Nonmetallic Duct Connections For duct Splices see other side 1 a Pull back jacket and insulation from flexible duct core b Slide duct core at least inch onto fitting collar boot wye elbow metal duct etc 1 inch past bead if present Fitting must be clean and free of oily residue BOX OR PLENUM BEADED STARTING COLLAR OR OTHER FITTING FLEXIBLE CORE FLEXIBLE NON fp METALLIC DUCT 3 a Secure core with a drawband placed over the core and tape and posi tioned at least 1 2 inch from the end of the fitting beyond the bead if pre sent b Tighten drawband with a tensioning tool DRAWBAND INSTALLED OVER TAPE AND TIGHTENED WITH AN ADJUSTABLE TENSIONING TOOL 2 Seal core to fitting using 2 or more wraps of 558CA tape Tape must extend at least 1 inch onto the flexible core and 1 inch onto the fitting CORE SEALED TO COLLAR WITH AT LEAST 2 WRAPS OF 558CA BUTYL ADHESIVE TAPE 558CA TAPE MAY NOT BE USED TO SEAL FINGER JOINTS OR OTHER ATTACHMENT OF COLLAR TO BOX OR PLENUM SEE FOOTNOTE a Pull insulation over fitting and flexible duct core b Pull jacket over insulation c Using at least 2 wraps of 558CA tape attach and seal the jacket to the fitting or to the adjacent jacket such as on an elbow when insulation and jackets of the two flex duct sections are pulled together JACKET SECURED WITH AT LEAST 2 WRAPS OF 552. 8CA BUTYL ADHESIVE TAPE ee we we Qh SY These are instructions for the proper application of Polyken 558CA and Nashua 558CA UL Listed 181B FX butyl adhesive tapes These tapes may be used only where nonmetallic flexible ducts are attached to fittings to make the core to fitting attachment and to seal the duct jacket They may not be used to seal other duct system joints such as attachment of fittings to plenums and junction boxes All installations must be made in accordance with CCR Title 24 Part 6 Energy Efficiency Standards for Residential and Nonresidential Buildings and local Building Department requirements
