1. The Steel Replacement Door Installation Instructions GENERAL INFORMATION Read instructions carefully and make sure to have DON T FORGET items and SUGGESTED TOOLS before proceeding with installation of Steel Replacement Unit DON T FORGET CHECKLIST SUGGESTED TOOLS 15 EA 6 COMMON NAILS TAPE MEASURE 30 EA 8 FINISH NAILS UTILITY KNIFE 15 EA 6 GALVANIZED FINISH NAILS SMALL PRY BAR 1 EA TUBE OF EXTERIOR GRADE CAULK CLAW HAMMER 1 PKG WOOD SHIMS may be required PHILLIPS HEAD SCREWDRIVER 1 EA ENTRY LOCKSET WITH DEADBOLT POWER DRILL DRIVER 7 8 SPADE BIT CAULK GUN SAW LEVEL STEP 1 REMOVE INTERIOR CASING 1A Use utility knife to score paint caulk around existing casing 1B Remove carefully using small pry bar casing may be reused STEP 2 REMOVE EXISTING DOOR amp HARDWARE TIP Removing an existing storm door is not required Closer arms and wind chains may need to be removed 2A Take existing door out of opening by removing hinge pins or unscrew hinges from frame or door 2B Remove all remaining hinge leafs and existing strike plates from frame opening STEP 3 REMOVE EXISTING THRESHOLD TIP Unit can be applied directly to cement sill or oak threshold if minimum maximum measurements are met 3A Metal sills or thresholds need to be removed Cut center of existing sill then use claw hammer or pry bar to remove sill from frame 3B Make sure area is clear of dirt and debris to ensure proper caulk surface STEP 4 SET
2. UNIT INTO OPENING TIP Before setting unit into opening measure to ensure sill fits between existing frame notching bottom of existing frame may be required for new sill 4A Apply caulk to bottom of sill and carefully set unit into opening See Diagram 1 4B Adjust and position unit so it is centered in opening and temporarily secure using four 4 6 common nails not provided through narrow nail slots in frame additional adjustment may be required in Step 5 See Diagram 2 STEP 5 SQUARE amp SECURE UNIT INTO OPENING 5A Remove shipping bracket at this time and open door 5B Install security screws provided into pre dimpled holes in frame with power drill Secure hinge side first Using level adjust frame for proper head and strike reveal approx 3 32 See Diagram 3 Manufacturing Hole Diagram 2 TIP Frame adjustments can be done by tightening or loosening the security screws in frame Wood shims may be required between steel replacement frame and existing frame to keep frame square in opening 5C Apply eleven 11 6 common nails into remaining nail slots and ay 1 each security screw provided i into each hinge hole without Diagram 3 screw installed 3 total per unit STEP 6 LOCKSET HARDWARE INSTALLATION See Diagram 4 6A Install entry set and deadbolt onto door per manufacturer s instructions TIP To ensure proper latch throw depth may require strike area behind fr

Weatherstrip Stop Diagram 8 STEP 8 INTERIOR TRIM AND FINISHING TIP Predrilling of nail pilot holes may be required to secure front edge of casing through replacement frame See Diagram 10 8A Apply new or existing casing using thirty 30 8 finish nails not provided twelve 12 nails per CSG upright and six 6 on CSG head recommended 8B Finish door and weatherstrip stops required using a quality exterior acrylic latex paint Prep per paint manufacturer s recommendations to ensure proper paint adhesion and finish 8C Finishing replacement frame optional Powder coated finish on frame requires no painting Frame can be painted using same paint type as door WA OLES ALE DLS TLR B U Pan Rs Your Doorway to a Beautiful Home Diagram 10
4. ame drilled with 7 8 spade bit See Diagram 5 6B Apply entry lock strike plate on frame not provided using two 2 security screws provided with installation hardware See Diagram 6 6C Apply deadbolt strike plate provided onto frame using security screws STEP 7 WEATHERSTRIP STOP INSTALLATION NOTE Weatherstrip stops must be trimmed to fit your frame opening Diagram 5 7A Start with head stop and cut to full width of frame opening Latch door and apply stop using three 3 6 Exterior Interior Casing galvanized finish nails not provided Brickmould making sure weatherstrip has solid contact with door See Diagram 7 7B Cut upright stops to length by measuring from top of sill to inside of head stop and apply using six 6 6 galvanized finish nails per upright fasten hinge side upright first Diagram 6 Replacement Frame Weatherstrip Door 7C Once stops are nailed in place finish by Stop caulking perimeter of stops and sill to Diagram 7 ensure no air or water seeps into home See Diagram 8 Comer ssal 7D Apply two 2 vinyl corner pads provided at bottom corner of frame and to top of threshold cap behind the weatherstrip to add additional protection from air water infiltration See Diagram 8 7E If necessary the threshold cap can be adjusted to ensure even contact between threshold cap and door bottom Cap is set in its lowest position from factory See Diagram 9
