7. the cooling me chanism will be automatically switched on To obtain the best service it is essential that the layer of ice on the metal of the frozen food compartment is not allowed to build up more than 1 4 thick When defrosting is completed empty water from drip tray and temperature balance control baffle if required 5 Defrosting when Storing Frozen Foods A rise in temperature of frozen foods can shorten their storage life and the following defrosting method should always be used when storing frozen food or ice cream This method should also be used if the ice on the frozen food compartment has been allowed to buil up to more than 1 4 thick Remove frozen foods and ice cream wrap immediately in several layers of newspaper and put in the coldest place available Remove any food from the drip tray It is not necessary to remove foodstuffs from the cabinet or door as the defrost water will be collected in the drip tray Fill the ice tray with hot water and place in the frozen food compartment If the layer of ice is thick refill the tray with hot water periodically Leave the refrigerator door open When all the ice has melted empty the defrost water out of the drip tray dry and replace Dry the frozen food compartment inside and out Reset the temperature and the temperature control baffle Return the frozen foods to the frozen food compartment After about an hour refill and replace the ice tray
