Before cleaning 1 Cover the muffler outlet with a plastic bag after the engine has cooled down 2 Make sure that all caps and covers as well as all electrical couplers and connectors including the spark plug caps are tightly in stalled 3 Remove extremely stubborn dirt like oil burnt onto the crankcase with a degreasing agent and a brush but never apply such prod 8 1 ucts onto seals gaskets the drive belt and wheel axles Always rinse the dirt and degreaser off with wa ter Cleaning ECA10772 NOTICE e Avoid using strong acidic wheel cleaners especially on spoked wheels If such products are used on hard to remove dirt do not leave the cleaner on the af fected area any longer than in structed Also thoroughly rinse the area off with water immedi ately dry it and then apply a cor rosion protection spray e Improper cleaning can damage plastic parts such as cowlings panels windshields headlight lenses meter lenses etc and the mufflers Use only a soft clean cloth or sponge with wa ter to clean plastic However if the plastic parts cannot be thor oughly cleaned with water di luted mild detergent with water may be used Be sure to rinse off any detergent residue using plenty of water as it is harmful to plastic parts Do not use any harsh chemical products on plastic parts Be sure to avoid using cloths or sponges which have been in contact with strong or abrasive cleaning

Never carry a passenger unless he or she can firmly place both feet on the passenger footrests Never ride under the influence of alcohol or other drugs A SAFETY INFORMATION e This motorcycle is designed for on road use only It is not suitable for off road use Protective Apparel The majority of fatalities from motorcy cle accidents are the result of head in juries The use of a safety helmet is the single most critical factor in the preven tion or reduction of head injuries e Always wear an approved helmet e Wear a face shield or goggles Wind in your unprotected eyes could contribute to an impairment of vision that could delay seeing a hazard e The use of a jacket heavy boots trousers gloves etc is effective in preventing or reducing abrasions or lacerations e Never wear loose fitting clothes otherwise they could catch on the control levers footrests or wheels and cause injury or an accident e Always wear protective clothing that covers your legs ankles and feet The engine or exhaust sys tem become very hot during or af ter operation and can cause burns 2 2 A passenger should also observe the above precautions Avoid Carbon Monoxide Poisoning All engine exhaust contains carbon monoxide a deadly gas Breathing car bon monoxide can cause headaches dizziness drowsiness nausea confu sion and eventually death Carbon Monoxide is a colorless odor less tasteless gas which m

TIP Salt sprayed on roads in the winter may remain well into spring 1 Clean the motorcycle with cold wa ter and a mild detergent after the engine has cooled down NOTICE Do not use warm water since it increases the corrosive action of the salt 2 After drying the motorcycle apply a corrosion protection spray on all metal including chrome and nick el plated surfaces to prevent cor rosion After cleaning 1 Dry the motorcycle with a chamois or an absorbing cloth 2 Use a chrome polish to shine chrome aluminum and stainless steel parts including the exhaust System Even the thermally in duced discoloring of stainless steel exhaust systems can be re moved through polishing MOTORCYCLE CARE AND STORAGE 3 To prevent corrosion it is recom mended to apply a corrosion pro tection spray on all metal including chrome and nickel plat ed surfaces Use spray oil as a universal clean er to remove any remaining dirt Touch up minor paint damage caused by stones etc Wax all painted and chrome plat ed surfaces Avoid combination cleaner waxes many of which contain abrasives that may mar the paint or protective finish Let the motorcycle dry completely before storing or covering it EWA11131 Contaminants on the brakes or tires can cause loss of control Make sure that there is no oil or wax on the brakes or tires If necessary clean the brake dis

84. t In that case push the SELECT switch to change the display between the various tripmeter and odometer modes in the following order INSTRUMENT AND CONTROL FUNCTIONS TRIP F 2 TRIP A TRIP B gt ODO gt TRIP F To reset a tripmeter select it by push ing the SELECT switch and then push the RESET switch for at least one second If you do not reset the fuel reserve tripmeter manually it will reset itself automatically and the display will return to the prior mode after refueling and traveling 5 km 3 mi To set the clock 1 Clock 1 Push the SELECT and RESET switches together for at least three seconds 2 When the hour digits start flashing push the RESET switch to set the hours 3 Push the SELECT switch and the minute digits will start flashing 4 Push the RESET switch to set the minutes 5 Push the SELECT switch and then release it to start the clock Self diagnosis device 1 Error code display This model is equipped with a self diag nosis device for various electrical cir cuits If a problem is detected in any of those circuits the engine trouble warning light will come on and the odometer tripme ter clock display will indicate an error code 4 5 If the odometer tripmeter clock display indicates any error codes note the code number and then have a Yamaha dealer check the vehicle ECA11590 NOTICE If the display indicates an error code th
