Oven peeking may cause heat loss longer cooking times and unsatisfactory baking results Rely on your timer to keep track of the cooking time e Bake cakes pies or cookies when the oven is warm Best time to bake is right after a meal has been cooked in the oven e Preheat the oven no longer than necessary e Plan your meals for the most efficient use of the range When using the oven to cook one food try to cook the rest of the meal in it also e Do not preheat when broiling roasting or cooking items such as casseroles USING YOUR RANGE Using the MEALTIMER clock The MEALTIMER clock is designed to turn the oven on and off at times you set even when you are not around Delayed time baking roasting is ideal for foods which do not require a preheated oven such as meats and casseroles Do not use delayed time cooking for cakes cookies etc they will not rise properly Before using the MEALTIMER clock make sure the clock is set to the correct time of day See Setting the clock on page 11 To delay start and stop automatically 1 Position the oven rack s properly and place the food in the oven 2 Push in and turn the Start Time Knob clockwise to the time you want baking roasting to start 3 Push in and turn the Stop Time Knob clockwise to the time you want the oven to shut off 4 Set the Oven Selector to TIMED BAKE 5 Set the Oven Temperature Control Knob to the baking roasting te

6. lamb chops split chicken pork steaks and chops and thin steaks 1 2 thick or less Broiling tips e Use the broiler pan and grid for broiling They are designed to drain excess liquid and grease away from the cooking surface to help prevent spatter smoke or fire e Do not cover the broiler grid with foil e Place food about 3 or more from the broil element e To ensure adequate grease drainage do not use cookie sheets or similar pans for broiling e After broiling remove the broiler pan from the oven when you remove the food Drippings will bake on the pad if you leave it in the heated oven 15 Energy saving tips Although the energy used for cooking is usually a very small percentage of the total energy used in the home cooking energy can be used efficiently Here are some tips to help you save energy when using your cooking product e Use pans with flat bottoms straight sides and tight fitting lids e Match the pan to the surface unit size e Cook with a minimum of liquid or fat to help shorten cooking time Preheat pans only when recommended and for the shortest time possible e Start food on higher heat settings then set surface unit control on low or off to finish cooking Use retained heat for cooking when possible e Use the more efficient surface units instead of the oven when possible 16 USING YOUR RANGE e Turn on the surface unit only after placing filled pan on the unit e

VEN HEATING Indicator Light will turn on and off with the elements NOTE The top element helps heat during baking roasting but does not turn red 5 When baking roasting is done turn both the Oven Selector and the Oven Temperature Control Knob to OFF The OVEN HEATING Indicator Light will go off 12 USING YOUR RANGE Adjusting the oven temperature control Although your new oven is properly adjusted to provide accurate temperatures it may cook faster or slower than your old oven lf after using the oven for a period of time you are not satisfied with the baking roasting results you can change the temperature calibration by following these steps 1 Make sure the Oven Temperature Con trol Knob is turned to the off position Pull knob straight off and flip it over 2 Loosen the locking screws inside the Locking control knob Note the position of the screw notches To raise 3 To lower the temperature hold knob handle firmly and move the tooth a notch counterclockwise Each notch equals about 5 F 2 5 C 4 To raise the temperature hold knob es handle firmly and move the tooth a notch r clockwise Each notch equals about 5 F Notches 2 5 C 5 Tighten the locking screws and replace the control knob 13 USING YOUR RANGE Broiling 1 Position the rack before turning the oven on See Broiling rack position chart on page 15 2 Put the broiler pan and food on the rack 3 Cl

18. ipe up any resi due or ash with a damp cloth or sponge If any spots remain clean with a mild abrasive cleanser or cleaning sponge e Clean the oven before it gets heavily soiled Cleaning a very soiled oven takes longer and results in more smoke than usual If the Self Cleaning cycle does not get the oven as clean as you expected the cycle may not have been set long enough or you may not have prepared the oven properly Set the Self Cleaning cycle longer the next time and hand clean areas noted on page 21 23 Caring for Your Range In This Section Cleaning the cooktop The oven light Cleaning other range parts Your range is designed for easy care You can do most cleaning with items found around your home Cleaning your range whenever spills or soiling occurs will help to keep it looking and operating like new Cleaning the cooktop This cooktop is designed for easy care However ceramic cooktops need to be maintained differently than standard electric open coil elements Foods spilled directly on the cooktop will not burn off as on open coil elements Because of this the surface should be dust free and soil free before heating Your cooktop has been prepolished at the factory for improved protection and clean ability The Cooktop Polishing Creme included with your range paper towels or a sponge and a single edge razor blade ina holder is all you need to clean your cooktop For proper cleaning methods pl

21. kwise until Minute Timer hand points to OFF The clock setting will change if you push in the knob when turning Using the Minute Timer The Minute Timer does not start or stop the oven It works like a kitchen timer Set it in minutes up to an hour You will hear a buzzer when the set time is up NOTE Do not push in the knob when setting the Minute Timer or when stopping the buzzer Pushing in and turning the Minute Timer Knob changes the clock setting 1 Without pushing it in turn the Minute Timer Knob counterclockwise until the timer hand passes the setting you want 2 Without pushing it in turn the knob back to the setting you want When the time is up a buzzer will sound To stop the buzzer turn the Minute Timer hand to OFF 11 USING YOUR RANGE Baking roasting 1 Position the rack s properly before turning on the oven To change rack position lift rack at front and pull out For further information see Positioning racks and pans on page 9 2 Set the Oven Selector to BAKE 3 Set the Oven Temperature Control Knob to the baking roasting temperature you want The OVEN HEATING Indicator Light will come on The oven is preheated when the OVEN HEATING Indicator Light first goes off NOTE Do not preheat oven when roasting or cooking items such as casseroles 4 Put food in the oven During baking roasting the elements will turn on and off to maintain the temperature setting The O

23. o follow the above can result in burns or illness from inhaling dangerous fumes How the cycle works The Self Cleaning cycle uses very high heat to burn away soil and grease During the SEE tert cycle the oven gets much hotter than it CLEANING CYCLE does for normal baking or broiling This high OVEN SHUT OFF heat breaks up the soil or grease and burns Doon LOCKS it away You can adjust the cycle time to the amount of soil in your oven You can set the cycle time anywhere between two and four hours See Setting the controls on page 22 SEART 3 The graph at the right is representative of Time In Hours a normal 3 hour Self Cleaning cycle Note that the heating stops when the 3 hour setting is up but it takes longer for the oven to cool enough to unlock DOOR UNLOCKS Temperature STOP 21 USING THE SELF CLEANING CYCLE Before you start Before you start the Self Cleaning cycle make sure you e Hand clean the areas shown They do not get hot enough during the cleaning cycle for soil to burn away Use hot water and detergent or a soapy steel wool pad for cleaning NOTE DO NOT clean move or bend the seal Poor cleaning baking and roasting may result Remove the broiler pan and grid and any pots and pans being stored in the oven NOTE You can clean the broiler pan without grid in the oven if you have first removed most of the soil by hand cleaning or in a dishwasher If most of the soil

25. re tips e Select a pan that is about the same size as the surface unit NOTE For best results and greater energy efficiency use only flat bottomed cookware that makes good contact with the surface units Cookware with rounded warped ribbed such as some porcelain enamelware or dented bottoms could cause uneven heating and poor cooking results You can however use the newer cookware available with slightly indented bottoms or very small expansion channels This cookware is specially designed to provide the good contact needed for best cooking results Also woks canners and teakettles with flat bottoms suitable for use on your cook top are now available in most stores that sell housewares e The pan should have straight sides and a tight fitting lid e Choose medium to heavy gauge thick ness pans that are fairly lightweight e The pan material metal or glass affects how fast heat transfers from the surface unit through the pan material and how evenly heat spreads over the pan bottom Choose pans that provide the best cooking results e Handles should be made of sturdy heat resistant material and be securely attached to the pan e With your hand feel the bottom of your pans while they are cool for nicks and scratches Nicks and scratches on pan bottoms will scratch the ceramic glass cooktop e Make sure bottoms of pans are clean and dry before using on cooktop Avoid spillovers on cooktop Use pans with

31. the anti tip floor bracket if you have one Use care when handling the drawer Removing the storage drawer 1 Empty drawer of any pots and pans before removing drawer Pull drawer straight out to the first stop Lift front and pull out to the second stop 2 Lift back slightly and slide drawer all the way out Replacing the storage drawer 1 Fit ends of drawer slide rails into the drawer guides on both sides of opening 2 Lift drawer front and push in until metal stops on drawer slide rails clear white stops on drawer guides Lift drawer front again to clear second stop and slide drawer closed Drawer slide rail 19 USING YOUR RANGE The anti tip bracket The range will not tip during normal use However tipping can occur if you apply too much force or weight to the open door without the anti tip bracket properly secured AWARNING Tip Over Hazard Connect anti tip bracket to the range feet Reconnect anti tip bracket if the range is moved Do not push down on the open oven door Follow the installation instructions Do not let children climb onto the oven door Failure to do so can result in death burns or other injury To verify the anti tip bracket is engaged if you have a floor bracket Remove the storage drawer See page 19 Rear e Look to see if the anti tip bracket is haii attached to floor with screws e Make sure one rear leveling leg is positioned under the anti tip bracket

33. ure goes above normal baking roasting temperatures the door cannot be opened and the Lock Lever must not be moved 2 Set the Oven Selector and Oven Temperature Control Knob to CLEAN 22 USING THE SELF CLEANING CYCLE 3 Make sure the clock and Start and Stop Times all have the correct time of day 4 Push in and turn the Stop Time Knob clockwise two or three hours The OVEN HEATING Indicator Light will come on e Use two hours for light soil e Use three hours or more for moderate to heavy soil NOTE Make sure the Start Time Knob is not pushed in 5 After the Self Cleaning cycle is completed and the oven has cooled sufficiently the Lock Lever can be moved back to the left DO NOT FORCE IT Wait until it moves easily Turn the Oven Selector and Oven Temperature Control Knob to OFF 6 After the oven is cool wipe off any residue or ash with a damp cloth If needed touch up spots with a soapy steel wool pad To stop the Self Cleaning cycle at any time 1 Push in and turn the Stop Time Knob clockwise until it points to the correct time of day 2 Turn the Oven Selector and Oven Tem perature Control Knob to OFF When the oven has cooled sufficiently move the Lock Lever back to the left DO NOT FORCE IT Wait until it moves easily Special tips e Keep the kitchen well ventilated during the Self Cleaning cycle to help get rid of heat odors and smoke e After the oven is cool w
34. urned on continued on next page 7 USING YOUR RANGE Hot surface indicator light The Hot Surface Indicator Light on the control panel will glow when a surface unit becomes too hot to touch The Indicator Light will continue to glow as long as the surface unit is too hot to touch even after it is turned off Until you get used to the settings use the following as a guide For best results start cooking at the high setting then turn the control knob down to continue cooking e To start foods cooking e To bring liquids to a boil e To hold a rapid boil To fry chicken or pancakes e For gravy pudding and icing e To cook large amounts of vegetables e To keep food cooking after starting itona higher setting LO e To keep food warm until ready to serve Using the ceramic glass cooktop Cooking on the ceramic glass cooktop is almost the same as cooking on coil surface units There are however a few differences e The surface unit will glow red when it is turned on You will see the element cycling on glowing red and off even on HIGH setting to maintain the proper tempera ture setting you have selected e Sliding metal pans on ceramic glass cooktop surface could leave marks Wiping off the cooktop before and after each use will help keep the surface free from stains and provide the most even heating See pages 25 and 26 for care and cleaning suggestions Cookwa
