5. the Left Handrail with two Handrail Bolts 1 two Handrail Washers 80 and two Handrail Star Washers 2 as shown Do not tighten the Handrail Bolts yet Make sure that at least 6 to 8 of the Wire Harness 53 is extending from the top of the Right Handrail 4 Feed the excess Wire Harness into the right Upright 38 and hold the Right Handrail against the right Upright Make sure that both Handrails are at the same height Attach the Right Handrail with two Handrail Bolts 1 two Handrail Washers 80 and two Handrail Star Washers 2 Do not tighten the Handrail Bolts yet Be careful not to pinch the Wire Harness Remove the tie from the Wire Harness and the Handrail 3 Hold the Console Base 87 near the right Handrail 4 Make a loop with the indicated plastic tie and insert the two Wires 53 through the loop Pull out just enough of the Wires to connect them to the two connectors in the Console Base 87 Plug the Wires into the connectors Important Make sure that the Wires are fully insert ed WARNING Do not disconnect or connect the Wires while the treadmill power cord is plugged in Refer drawing 3a Set the Console Base 87 on the Handrails 4 88 Thread four Console Screws 3 into the Handrails and the Console Base After all four Screws have been started tighten the Screws until they are snug do not overtighten the Screws Feed the excess Wire Harness 53 into the upper end of the right Han

8. and unplug the power cord when the treadmill is not in use 19 Do not attempt to raise lower or move the treadmill until it is properly assembled See ASSEMBLY on page 5 and HOW TO FOLD AND MOVE THE TREADMILL on page 10 You 20 21 22 23 24 25 must be able to safely lift 45 pounds 20 kg in order to raise lower or move the treadmill Do not change the incline of the treadmill by placing objects under the treadmill When folding or moving the treadmill make sure that the storage latch is fully closed Inspect and tighten all parts of the treadmill every three months Never insert or drop any object into any opening DANGER Always unplug the power cord immediately after use before cleaning the treadmill and before performing the maintenance and adjustment procedures described in this manual Never remove the motor hood unless instructed to do so by an authorized service representative Servicing other than the procedures in this manual should be performed by an authorized ser vice representative only This treadmill is intended for in home use only Do not use this treadmill in any com mercial rental or institutional setting A WARNING Before beginning this or any exercise program consult your physician This is especially important for persons over the age of 35 or persons with pre existing health prob lems Read all instructions before using ICON assumes no responsibility for
9. cline pins are fully inserted at the same height Do not use the treadmill with the incline pins removed After you have adjusted the incline legs lower the treadmill see HOW TO LOWER THE TREADMILL FOR USE on page 11 HANDRAIL HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT The Handrails 4 88 can be adjusted to either of two heights Before adjusting the Handrails remove the key and unplug the power cord Remove the four Console Screws 3 While a second person lifts the Console Base 87 remove the Handrail Bolts 1 Handrail Washers 80 and Handrail Star Washers 2 Raise or lower the Handrails 4 88 to the desired height being care ful not to damage the Wire Harness 53 Reattach the Handrails with the Handrail Bolts Handrail Washers and Handrail Star Washers Important If you are 5 8 or taller use the lower two holes in the Handrail if you are shorter than 5 8 use the upper two holes Make sure that both Handrails are at the same height Do not tighten the Handrail Bolts yet Always attach each Handrail with two Handrail Bolts Reattach the Console Base 87 see assem bly step 3 on page 6 Then tighten the four Handrail Bolts HOW TO FOLD AND MOVE THE TREADMILL HOW TO FOLD THE TREADMILL FOR STORAGE Before folding the treadmill unplug the power cord CAUTION You must be able to safely lift 45 pounds 20 kg in order to raise lower or move the treadmill 1 Hold the treadmill with your hands in the locat
10. dly which may result in a fall and serious injury This product must be grounded If it should mal function or break down grounding provides a path of least resistance for electric current to reduce the risk of electric shock This product is equipped with a cord having an equipment grounding conductor and a grounding plug Plug the power cord into a surge suppressor and plug the surge suppressor into an appropriate outlet that is properly installed and grounded in accordance with all local codes and ordinances Important The treadmill is not com patible with GFCl equipped outlets This product is for use on a nominal 120 volt circuit and has a grounding plug that looks like the plug illus trated in drawing 1 below A temporary adapter that looks like the adapter illustrated in drawing 2 may be used to connect the surge suppressor to a 2 pole receptacle as shown in drawing 2 if a properly grounded outlet is not available Grounded Outlet Box Grounded Outlet Grounding Plug Grounded Outlet Box Surge Suppressor sY Metal Screw The temporary adapter should be used only until a properly grounded outlet drawing 1 can be installed by a qualified electrician The green colored rigid ear lug or the like extending from the adapter must be connected to a permanent ground such as a properly grounded outlet box cover Whenever the adapter is used it must be held in place by a metal screw Some 2 pole receptacle outl
11. drail 4 Pull the plastic tie tight and cut off the end 4 Attach the Storage Latch 16 to the left Upright 38 with two Latch Screws 14 Refer to step 2 Tighten the four Handrail Bolts 1 5 Hold a Weight Rack 15 against the right Upright 38 in the position shown Loosely thread two Rack Screws 14 into the bottom holes in the Weight Rack and the Upright Next loosely thread four Rack Screws into the other four holes Then tighten all six Rack Screws Set a 3 lb Weight not shown on the bottom hanger on the Weight Rack 15 a 2 lb Weight on the middle hanger and a 1 lb Weight on the top hanger Attach the other Weight Rack and Weights to the left Upright in the same way not shown 6 Make sure that all parts are tightened before you use the treadmill To protect the floor or carpet place a mat under the treadmill Plastic Tie 4 Plastic Tie OPERATION AND ADJUSTMENT THE PERFORMANT LUBE WALKING BELT Your treadmill features a walking belt coated with PERFORMANT LUBE a high performance lubricant IMPORTANT Never apply silicone spray or other substances to the walking belt or the walking plat form Such substances will deteriorate the walking belt and cause excessive wear HOW TO PLUG IN THE POWER CORD A DANGER Improper connection of the equipment grounding conductor can result in an increa
12. e mode will pause Distance This mode shows the total number of miles you have walked or run If desired reset the displays by pressing the ON RESET button When you are finished exercising stop the walking belt and remove the key Step onto the foot rails turn the speed control to the RESET position and remove the key from the console The displays will turn off about six min utes after the key is removed Note The displays will automatically turn off in order to conserve the batteries any time that the walking belt is stopped and the ON RESET button is not pressed for six minutes HOW TO CHANGE THE INCLINE OF THE TREADMILL To vary the intensity of your exercise the incline of the treadmill can be changed There are four incline lev els Before changing the incline remove the key and unplug the power cord Next fold the treadmill to the storage position see HOW TO FOLD THE TREADMILL FOR STORAGE on page 10 To change the incline first remove the incline pin from the right incline leg as shown below Adjust the incline leg to the desired height and fully reinsert the incline pin Make sure that the incline pin is in the locked position shown in the inset drawing Adjust the left incline leg in the same way Make sure that both incline pins are inserted from the direction shown Incline 23 Pin Incline Pin o Right Incline Leg CAUTION Before using the treadmill make sure that both in
13. e treadmill is not compatible with GFCl equipped outlets After the power cord has been plugged in make sure that the key is fully inserted into the console c frame near the power cord If the switch protrudes as shown the circuit breaker has tripped To reset Tripped n the circuit breaker wait for five minutes and then press the switch back in Reset The power turns off during use a e f Check the circuit breaker located on the treadmill frame near the power cord see the drawing above If the circuit breaker has tripped wait for five minutes and then press the switch back in Make sure that the power cord is plugged in Make sure that the two wires under the console are fully plugged in Refer to assembly step 3 on page 6 WARNING Do not disconnect or connect the wires while the treadmill power cord is plugged in Unplug the power cord wait for five minutes and then plug the power cord back in Remove the key from the console Reinsert the key fully into the console If the treadmill still will not run please call our Customer Service Department toll free The displays of the console do not function properly a b Check the batteries in the console If the batteries need to be replaced see BATTERY INSTALLATION on page 8 Most problems are the result of drained batteries Remove the screws from the hood and carefully remove the hood Locate the Reed Switch 13 and the Ma
14. ensity level can be found by using your heart rate as a guide The chart below shows recom mended heart rates for fat burning and aerobic exercise v MIN BPM MAX BPM Fat Burn Max Burn Aerobic To find the proper heart rate for you first find your age on the left side of the chart ages are rounded off to the nearest ten years Next find the three numbers to the right of your age The three numbers are your training zone The lower two numbers are recom mended heart rates for fat burning the highest number is the recommended heart rate for aerobic exercise Fat Burning To burn fat effectively you must exercise at a relatively low intensity level for a sustained period of time During the first few minutes of exercise your body uses easily accessible carbohydrate calories for ener gy Only after the first few minutes does your body begin to use stored fat calories for energy If your goal is to burn fat adjust the speed of the treadmill until your heart rate is near one of the lower two numbers in your training zone It may also be helpful to set the 14 speed control on the console to FAT BURN to help you maintain the proper intensity level See page 9 Aerobic Exercise If your goal is to strengthen your cardiovascular sys tem your exercise must be aerobic Aerobic exercise is activity that requires large amounts of oxygen for prolonged periods of time This increases the demand on the heart to pump blo

16. g the allen wrench turn the left rear roller bolt clockwise 1 2 of a turn Be careful not to overtighten the walking belt If the walking belt has shifted to the right turn the left rear roller bolt counterclock wise 1 2 of a turn Plug in the power cord insert the key and run the treadmill for a few minutes Repeat until the walking belt is centered b If the walking belt slips when walked on first remove the key and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD Using the allen wrench turn both rear roller bolts clock wise 1 4 of a turn When the walking belt is correctly tightened you should be able to lift each side of the walking belt 3 to 4 inches off the walking platform Be careful to keep the walking belt centered Plug in the power cord insert the key and carefully walk on the treadmill for a few minutes Repeat until the walking belt is properly tightened 13 CONDITIONING GUIDELINES A WARNING before beginning this or any exercise program consult your physician This is especially important for individuals over the age of 35 or individuals with pre existing health problems The following guidelines will help you to plan your exercise program For more detailed exercise informa tion obtain a reputable book or consult your physi cian EXERCISE INTENSITY Whether your goal is to burn fat or to strengthen your cardiovascular system the key to achieving the desired results is to exercise with the proper intensity The proper int
17. gnet 63 on the left side of the Pulley 75 Turn the Pulley until the Magnet is aligned with the Reed Switch Make sure that there is a gap of about 1 8 between the Magnet and the Reed Switch If necessary loosen the Screw 31 and move the Reed Switch slightly Retighten the Screw Re attach the hood and run the treadmill for a few minutes to check for a correct speed reading 12 PROBLEM The walking belt slows when walked on SOLUTION a Use only a single outlet surge suppressor that meets all of the specifications described on page 7 b If the walking belt is overtightened treadmill perfor mance may decrease and the walking belt may become damaged Remove the key and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD Using the allen wrench turn both rear roller bolts counterclockwise 1 4 of a turn When the walking belt is properly tightened you should be able to lift each side of the walking belt 2 to 3 inches off the walking platform Be careful to keep the walking belt centered Plug in the power cord insert the key and run the treadmill for a few minutes Repeat until the walking belt is properly tightened Rear Roller Adjustment Bolts c If the walking belt still slows when walked on please call our Customer Service Department toll free PROBLEM The walking belt is off center or slips when walked on SOLUTION a If the walking belt has shifted to the left first remove the key and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD Usin
18. h and scissors i Note The underside of the treadmill walking belt is coated with high performance lubricant During shipping a small amount of lubricant may be transferred to the top of the walking belt or the shipping carton This is a nor mal condition and does not affect treadmill performance If there is lubricant on top of the walking belt simply wipe off the lubricant with a soft cloth and a mild non abrasive cleaner eso Handrail Washer 80 Handrail Star me MO oe Latch Screw Rack Screw 14 14 Extension Leg Screw 39 2 Console Screw 3 1 With the help of a second person raise the Uprights 38 to the position shown Note During this step and step 2 be careful not to pull on or damage the Wire Harness 53 in the right Handrail 4 Insert one of the Base Legs 44 into the right Upright 38 with the Base Leg Pad 33 in the indicated position Using the included Allen Wrench 81 attach the Base Leg with a Base Leg Screw 39 Attach the other Base Leg not shown to the left Upright in the same way Note A replacement Base Leg Pad 33 may be included If a Base Leg Pad becomes worn and needs to be replaced use the replacement Base Leg Pad 2 Hold the Left Handrail 88 against the left Upright 38 as shown Important If you are shorter than 5 8 align the upper two holes in the Handrail with the holes in the Upright if you are 5 8 or taller align the lower two holes Attach
19. ions shown at the right To decrease the possibility of injury bend your legs and keep your back straight As you raise the treadmill make sure to lift with your legs rather than your back Raise the treadmill about halfway to the vertical position 2 Move your right hand to the position shown and hold the treadmill firmly Using your left thumb press the storage latch and hold it Pivot the treadmill until the frame and foot rail are past the storage latch Close the storage latch over the catch Make sure that the storage latch is fully engaged over the catch To protect the floor or carpet from damage place a mat under the treadmill Keep the treadmill out of direct sunlight Do not leave the treadmill in the stor age position in temperatures above 85 Fahrenheit 10 Sa y Storage HOW TO MOVE THE TREADMILL Before moving the treadmill convert the treadmill to the storage position as described above Make sure that the storage latch is locked fully over the catch 1 Remove the weights from the weight racks 2 Hold the upper ends of the handrails Place one foot on one of the wheel as shown 3 Tilt the treadmill back until it rolls freely on the wheels Carefully move the treadmill to the desired location To reduce the risk of injury use extreme caution while moving the treadmill Do not attempt to move the treadmill over an uneven s
20. mpromise your ability to maintain your balance Exercises using weights should be attempted only by experienced users WORKOUT GUIDELINES Each workout should include the following three parts A Warm up Start each workout with 5 to 10 minutes of stretching and light exercise A proper warm up increases your body temperature heart rate and circulation in prepa ration for exercise Training Zone Exercise After warming up increase the intensity of your exer cise until your pulse is in your training zone for 20 to 60 minutes During the first few weeks of your exer cise program do not keep your pulse in your training SUGGESTED STRETCHES The correct form for several basic stretches is shown in the drawings below Move slowly as you stretch never bounce 1 Toe Touch Stretch Stand with your knees bent slightly and slowly bend forward from your hips Allow your back and shoulders to relax as you reach down toward your toes as far as possible Hold for 15 counts then relax Repeat 3 times Stretches Hamstrings back of knees and back 2 Hamstring Stretch Sit with one leg extended Bring the sole of the opposite foot toward you and rest it against the inner thigh of your extended leg Reach toward your toes as far as possible Hold for 15 counts then relax Repeat 3 times for both legs Stretches Hamstrings lower back and groin 3 Calf Achilles Stretch With one leg in front of the other reach forward and place yo

22. ole requires two AA batteries not includ ed Alkaline batteries are recommended To install batteries open the battery cover as shown at the right Press two batteries into the battery compartment with A WARNING To reduce risk of serious injury stand on foot rails before starting treadmill read and understand the user s manual all instructions and the warnings before use Keep children away the negative ends of the batteries touching the springs Close the battery cover push up on the tab and then push the tab forward as shown Be sure that the tab locks into place Battery Cover Tab STEP BY STEP CONSOLE OPERATION Before operating the console make sure that the power cord is properly plugged in See HOW TO PLUG IN THE POWER CORD on page 7 Stand on the foot rails of the treadmill Find the clip attached to the key and slide the clip onto the waist band of your clothing Next insert the key into the console Test the clip by carefully taking a few steps backward until the key is pulled from the console If the key is not pulled from the console adjust the position of the clip as needed Follow the steps on page 9 to operate the console 1 Insert the key fully into the power switch Inserting the key will not turn on the displays The displays will turn on when the ON RESET button is pressed or when the walking belt is started Note If you just installed batteries the dis
23. plays will already be on 2 Reset the speed control and start the walking belt Turn the speed control to the RESET position Note Each time the walking belt is stopped the speed control must be turned to the RESET position before the walking belt can be restarted Next slowly turn the speed control until the walking belt begins to move at slow speed Carefully step onto the walking belt and begin exercising Change the speed of the walking belt as desired by turning the speed control During the first few minutes that you use the tread mill inspect the alignment of the walking belt and align the walking belt if necessary see page 13 To stop the walking belt step onto the foot rails and turn the speed control to the RESET position E Follow your progress with the monitor modes When the power is turned on the 7 console will scan through five modes repeatedly Flashing mode arrows will show which mode is currently displayed The modes are described below 36 508 CALS F CALS SPBED IME DISTANCE Mode Arrows e Calories CALS This mode shows the approx imate number of calories you have burned e Fat Calories F CALS This mode shows the approximate number of fat calories you have burned See FAT BURNING on page 14 e Speed This mode shows your speed in miles per hour e Time This mode shows the elapsed time Note If you stop exercising for ten seconds or longer the tim
