1. 5. end of the right Upright 11 Hand tighten two Handrail Bolts 105 with Washers 39 into the Upright as shown Attach the Left Handrail 41 to the left Upright 11 as described above Note There is no wire in the left Upright 4 Place the Console Base 46 on the Right and Left Handrails 1 41 Make a loop with the indicated plastic tie and insert the two Wires 21 through the loop Pull out just enough of the Wires to connect the Wires to the two connectors in the Console Base Important Insert the two Wires fully into the connectors Then tighten the loop and cut off the excess plastic tie WARNING Never disconnect or connect the Wires while the treadmill power cord is plugged in Refer to drawing 4b Thread four Screws 99 into the Left and Right Handrails 1 41 and the Console Base 46 After all four Screws have been started tighten the Screws until they are snug do not overtighten the Screws Refer to step 3 Tighten the four Handrail Bolts 105 5 Attach the Storage Latch 14 to the left Upright 11 with the two Latch Screws 99 Be careful not to over tighten the Latch Screws 6 Make sure that all parts are properly tightened before you use the treadmill Keep the included allen wrench in a secure place The allen wrench is used to adjust the walking belt see page 13 To protect the floor place a mat under the treadmill OPERATION AND ADJUSTMENT THE PERFORMANT LUBE WALKING BELT
6. speed and incline of the treadmill until your heart rate is near one of the lower two numbers in your training zone It may also be helpful to set the speed 14 control on the console to FAT BURN to help you main tain the proper intensity level See page 9 Aerobic Exercise If your goal is to strengthen your cardiovascular sys tem your exercise must be aerobic Aerobic exercise is activity that requires large amounts of oxygen for prolonged periods of time This increases the demand on the heart to pump blood to the muscles and on the lungs to oxygenate the blood For aerobic exercise adjust the speed and incline of the treadmill until your heart rate is near the highest number in your training zone It may also be helpful to set the speed control on the console to AEROBIC to help you maintain the proper intensity level See page 9 High Performance Athletic Conditioning If your goal is high performance athletic conditioning set the speed control on the console to PERFOR MANCE to help you maintain the proper intensity level See page 9 Note During the first few weeks of your exercise program keep your heart rate near the low end of your training zone HOW TO MEASURE YOUR HEART RATE To measure your heart rate stop exer cising and place two fingers on your wrist as shown Take a six second heartbeat count and multiply the result by ten to find your heart rate A six second count is used because your heart
7. when the walking belt is started Note If you just in stalled batteries the displays will already be on Reset the speed control and start the walking belt Slide the speed control down to the RESET po sition Note Each time the walking belt is stopped the speed control must be moved to the RESET position before the walking belt can be restarted WARM UP COOL DOWN After you have moved the speed control to the RESET position slowly slide it upward until the walking belt begins to move at slow speed LI gt e onds the display will change from one number to the other as shown by the arrows CALS FAT CALS SPEED display This Arrow display shows the ap NU proximate numbers of H calories and fat calories CALS F CALS SPEED you have burned See FAT BURNING on page 14 In addition the display shows the speed of the walking belt in miles per hour Every few seconds the display will change from one number to the next as shown by the arrows in the display To reset the displays at any time press the ON RESET button SURE ON RESET When you are finished exercising stop the walking belt and remove the key Step onto the foot rails slide the speed control to the RESET position and remove the key from the console The displays will turn off a few minutes after the key is removed Note Any time that the walking be

Your treadmill features a walking belt coated with PERFORMANT LUBE a high performance lubricant IMPORTANT Never apply silicone spray or other substances to the walking belt or the walking plat form Such substances will deteriorate the walking belt and cause excessive wear HOW TO PLUG IN THE POWER CORD DANGER Improper connection of the equipment grounding conductor can result in an increased risk of electric shock Check with a qualified electrician or service man if you are in doubt as to whether the product is properly grounded Do not modify the plug provided with the product if it will not fit the outlet have a proper outlet installed by a qualified electrician Your treadmill like any other type of sophisticated electronic equipment can be seriously damaged by sudden voltage changes in your home s power Voltage surges spikes and noise interference can result from weather conditions or from other appliances being turned on or off To decrease the possibility of your treadmill being damaged always use a surge suppressor with your treadmill see drawing 1 at the right Use only a single outlet surge suppressor that is CUL 1449 listed as a transient voltage surge sup pressor TVSS The surge suppressor must have a UL suppressed voltage rating of 400 volts or less and a minimum surge dissipation of 450 joules The surge suppressor must be electrically rated for 120 volts AC and 15 amps There must be a monitor
10. at the power cord is plugged in If the power cord is plugged in unplug it wait for five minutes and then plug it back in c Make sure the wires under the console are fully plugged in See assembly step 4 on page 6 WARN ING Never disconnect or connect the wires while the treadmill power cord is plugged in d Remove the key from the console Reinsert the key fully into the console PROBLEM The incline of the treadmill does not change when the incline control is pressed SOLUTION a Make sure that the wires under the console are fully plugged in See assembly step 4 on page 6 WARNING Never disconnect or connect the wires while the power cord is plugged in PROBLEM The displays of the console do not function properly SOLUTION a Check the batteries in the console If the batteries need to be replaced see BATTERY INSTALLATION on page 8 Most problems are the result of drained batteries b Remove the key from the console and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD Next remove the screws from the hood and carefully remove the hood If neces sary remove the left Resistance Knob 98 see the drawing at the bottom of page 13 Locate the Reed 33 Switch 44 and the Magnet 45 on the left side of the Pulley 50 Turn the Pulley until the Magnet is aligned with the Reed Switch Make sure that the gap between the Magnet and the Reed Switch is about 3mm 1 8 If necessary loosen the Screw 33 and move the Reed Switch slightly Retighten the S
11. crew Re attach the hood and run the treadmill for a few minutes to check for a correct speed reading b 3mm 44 12 PROBLEM The walking belt slows when walked on SOLUTION a Use only a single outlet surge suppressor that meets all of the specifications described on page 9 b If the walking belt is overtightened treadmill perfor mance may decrease and the walking belt may be come damaged Remove the key and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD Using the allen wrench turn both rear roller adjustment bolts counterclockwise 1 4 of a turn When the walking belt is properly tightened you should be able to lift each side of the walking belt 5 to 7 cm 2 to 3 in off the walking platform Be careful to keep the walking belt centered Plug in the power cord insert the key and run the treadmill for a few Rear Roller Adjustment Bolts minutes Repeat until the walking belt is properly tightened c If the walking belt still slows when walked on call our Customer Service Department toll free PROBLEM The walking belt is off center or slips when walked on SOLUTION a If the walking belt is off center first remove the key UNPLUG THE POWER CORD If the walking belt has shifted to the left use the allen wrench to turn the left rear roller bolt clockwise 1 2 of a turn if the walking belt has shifted to the right turn the bolt counterclockwise 1 2 of a turn Be careful not to overtighten the walking belt Plug in the power cord
12. delines only See page 14 for more information To reduce the possibility of electric shock keep the console dry Avoid spilling liquids on the console and use only a sealable water bottle BATTERY INSTALLATION The console requires two AA batteries not in cluded Alkaline batteries are recommended Open the battery cover as shown in the drawing at the upper right Insert two batteries into the battery compartment making sure that the negative ends of the batteries are touching the springs in the battery compartment Batteries Close the battery cover push up on the battery cover tab and then push the tab forward as shown in the inset drawing Be sure that the tab locks into place STEP BY STEP CONSOLE OPERATION Before operating the console make sure that the power cord is properly plugged in See on page 7 the key into the console Test the clip by carefully taking a few steps backward until the key is pulled from the console If the key is not pulled from the console adjust the position of the clip as needed Stand on the foot rails of the treadmill Find the clip at tached to the key and slide the clip onto the waistband of your clothing Next insert Follow the steps below to operate the console El Insert the key fully into the console Inserting the key will not turn on the dis plays The displays will turn on when the ON RESET button is pressed or

14. e of 35 or individuals with pre existing health problems The following guidelines will help you to plan your ex ercise program For more detailed exercise informa tion obtain a reputable book or consult your physician EXERCISE INTENSITY Whether your goal is to burn fat or to strengthen your cardiovascular system the key to achieving the de sired results is to exercise with the proper intensity The proper intensity level can be found by using your heart rate as a guide The chart below shows recom mended heart rates for fat burning and aerobic exer cise HEART RATE TRAINING ZONE MAX BPM AGE Fat Burn Max Burn Aerobic 20 145 165 30 138 5 115 130 50 125 60 WE 118 70 95 110 90 103 To find the proper heart rate for you first find your age on the left side of the chart ages are rounded off to the nearest ten years Next find the three numbers to the right of your age The three numbers are your training zone The lower two numbers are recom mended heart rates for fat burning the higher number is the recommended heart rate for aerobic exercise Fat Burning To burn fat effectively you must exercise at a relatively low intensity level for a sustained period of time During the first few minutes of exercise your body uses easily accessible carbohydrate calories for energy Only after the first few minutes does your body begin to use stored fat calories for energy If your goal is to burn fat adjust the
15. ing light on the surge suppressor to indi cate whether it is functioning properly Failure to use a properly functioning surge suppressor could result in damage to the control system of the treadmill If the control system is damaged the walking belt may change speed or stop unexpect edly which may result in a fall and serious injury This product must be grounded If it should malfunc tion or break down grounding provides a path of least resistance for electric current to reduce the risk of elec tric shock This product is equipped with a cord having an equipment grounding conductor and a grounding plug Plug the power cord into a surge suppressor and plug the surge suppressor into an appropriate outlet that is properly installed and grounded in accordance with all local codes and ordinances Important The treadmill is not compatible with GFCl equipped outlets This product is for use on a nominal 120 volt circuit and has a grounding plug that looks like the plug illus trated in drawing 1 below A temporary adapter that looks like the adapter illustrated in drawing 2 may be used to connect the surge suppressor to a 2 pole receptacle as shown in drawing 2 if a properly grounded outlet is not available Grounded Outlet Box Surge Suppressor Grounding Pin Dy Grounding Pin Grounded Outlet Grounding Plug Grounded Outlet Box Surge Suppressor SY Metal Screw The temporary adapter should be used only unti

17. insert the key and run the treadmill for a few minutes Repeat until the walking belt is centered b If the walking belt slips when walked on first remove the key and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD Using the allen wrench turn both rear roller bolts clockwise 1 4 of a turn When the walking belt is correctly tight ened you should be able to lift each side of the walk ing belt 5 to 7 cm 2 to 3 in off the walking platform Be careful to keep the walking belt centered Plug in the power cord insert the key and carefully walk on the treadmill for a few minutes Repeat until the walk ing belt is properly tightened PROBLEM One of the upper body arms squeaks during use SOLUTION a Correcting this problem requires a small amount of white marine grease available at most hard ware stores Turn the Resistance Knob 98 counterclockwise until it can be removed Remove the Resistance Cone 93 and the Upper Body Arm 89 along with the 3 8 Washers 57 Spring Washer 95 Thrust Washers 96 and Thrust Bearing 97 Note If the Resistance Sleeve 92 comes out of the Resistance Bracket 91 press it back in Apply a thin layer of white marine grease to the outer surface of the Resistance Cone 93 Reattach all parts in the order shown at the right 13 CONDITIONING GUIDELINES WARNING Before beginning this or any exercise program consult your physician This is especially important for in dividuals over the ag

20. lt is stopped and the ON RESET but ton is not pressed after a few minutes the dis plays will automatically turn off in order to con Carefully step onto the walking belt and begin ex ercising Change the speed of the walking belt as desired by sliding the speed control To stop the walking belt step onto the foot rails and slide the speed control to the RESET position During the first few minutes that you use the tread mill inspect the alignment of the walking belt and align the walking belt if necessary see page 13 3 Adjust the incline of the treadmill as desired To change the incline of the treadmill press the top or bottom of the in cline control until the desired incline level is reached DOWN 4 Monitor your progress with the two displays TIME DISTANCE dis play This display shows the elapsed time H and the distance that you have walked or run in miles Every few sec TIME DISTANCE serve the batteries HOW TO SELECT KILOMETRES AND MILES The console can dis play distance and speed in either kilome tres or miles To change the unit of measurement first UN PLUG THE POWER CORD Next remove the screws attaching the console to the con sole base Lift the con sole a few inches being careful not to pull on the wires and turn the console over Locate the small switch on the back of the con sole Move the switch

28. rate drops quickly when you stop exercising If your heart rate is too high or too low adjust the speed or incline of the treadmill accordingly WORKOUT GUIDELINES A well rounded workout includes the following three important parts A Warm up Start each workout with 5 to 10 minutes of stretching and light exercise see SUGGESTED STRETCHES on page 15 A proper warm up increases your body temperature heart rate and circulation in preparation for exercise Training Zone Exercise After warming up increase the intensity of your exer cise until your pulse is in your training zone for 20 to 60 minutes During the first few weeks of your exer cise program do not keep your pulse in your training zone for longer than 20 minutes Breathe regularly and deeply as you exercise never hold your breath A Cool down Finish each workout with 5 to 10 minutes of stretching SUGGESTED STRETCHES The correct form for several basic stretches is shown at the right Move slowly as you stretch never bounce 1 Toe Touch Stretch Stand with your knees bent slightly and slowly bend forward from your hips Allow your back and shoulders to relax as you reach down toward your toes as far as possible Hold for 15 counts then relax Repeat 3 times Stretches Hamstrings back of knees and back 2 Hamstring Stretch Sit with one leg extended Bring the sole of the opposite foot toward you and rest it against the inner thigh of y
