SONY VGN AX Senes Hard Disk Drive Replacement Instruc tons IMPORTANT PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU START These easy instructions are intended to guide you through the replacement process v To avoid electnc shock please make sure product is tumed off and AC Adaptor is disconnected from the power source Remove jewelry before you begin work to avoid scratching the surface of your notebook computer v Place your notebook computer on a clean stable and covered surface to avoid damage to the Computer s case v Follow the ESD Electrostatic Discharge damage prevention instructions o Hold partsby the edges away from exposed circuitry when possible o Do not walk around excessively asthis promotes static build up v The appearance of the electronic components shown in the illustrations may be different from the components shipped This slight difference doesnot affect the accuracy of these instructions Sony is not responsible for any loss of data associated with your computer or any damage caused by Incorrect handling of the computer under these procedures The terms of your Sony Limited Warranty continue to apply Step 1 Prepare the Computer Step 2 Remove the Battery Pack Step 3 Remove completely the battery pack from the computer and Locate the release tab as shown in A caution Make sure the ee set aside the picture With your thumbs push the tab in the release direction and gently lift up the battery2. d shipping instructions 2 2
3. pack computer is turned off the lid is closed and the AC Adapter is disconnected Failure to do so can result in damage to the computer Place the computer upside down on a protected surface with the front edge facing you P N 994636500 Rev B 1 2 SONY VGN AX Senes Hard Disk Drive Replacement Instruc tons Step 4 Using enclosed magnetic screwdriver loosen up the three 3 screws securing the hard drive access door Gently remove the access door at an angle Step 5 Identify the hard drive to be removed Step 6 Using the enclosed magnetic screwdriver remove the three 3 screws as indicated in the picture XY Step 7 With even force slide out the HDD as shown Some force may be required to unlock the HDD from the connector Step 8 Gently pull out the original HDD away from the computer as shown Step 9 Hold the new HDD by the edges and slide it inside the Opening in an angle as shown Step 10 Align the HDD with the connector and with even force push in the new HDD Reinstall the three 3 previously removed screws Step 10 Reinstall the three 3 screws previously removed Step 12 Reinstall the Battery Pack Reconnect the AC Adapter Power on your computer and continue with the recovery process by following the instructions described on the back of the recovery disk s case Return the old HDD Bay to Sony following the include
