4. 15 2 Screw 40 4 iu M10 x 20mm Button M10 x 73mm Button Screw 33 4 Screw 35 3 1 Identify the Front Stabilizer 2 which is narrower than the Rear Stabilizer not shown While another person lifts the front of the Frame 1 attach the Front Stabilizer to the Frame with two M10 x 73mm Button Screws 33 and two M10 Split Washers 34 2 While another person lifts the rear of the Frame 1 attach the Rear Stabilizer 14 to the Frame with two M10 x 73mm Button Screws 33 and two M10 Split Washers 34 3 While another person holds the Upright 3 near the Frame 1 connect the Upper Wire Harness 32 to the Lower Wire Harness 31 Be careful to avoid pinching the Wire Harnesses 31 32 Gently pull the upper end of the Upper Wire Harness 32 to remove the slack and slide the Upright 3 onto the Frame 1 Be careful to avoid pinching the Wire Harnesses Attach the Upright with three M10 x 20mm Button Screws 35 and three M10 Split Washers 34 4 Attach the Water Bottle Holder 29 to the Upright 3 with two M4 x 15mm Screws 15 5 The Console 6 requires four D batteries not included alkaline batteries are recommended IMPORTANT If the exercise cycle has been exposed to cold temperatures allow it to warm to room temperature before inserting batteries into the Console If you do not do this the console dis plays or other electronic components ma

8. the program Each program is divided into 30 one minute seg ments One resistance level and one target pace speed setting are programmed for each seg ment Note The same resistance level and or tar get pace setting may be programmed for two or more consecutive segments During the program the program profile will show your progress see the drawing above The flashing segment of the profile represents the cur rent segment of the program The height of the flashing segment indicates the resistance level for the current segment At the end of each segment of the program a series of tones will sound and the next segment of the profile will begin to flash If a different resistance level is programmed for the next segment the resistance level will appear in the display for a few seconds to alert you The resistance of the pedals will then change As you exercise you will be prompted to keep your pedaling pace near the target pace setting for the current segment When the words PEDAL FASTER appear in the display increase your pace When the words PEDAL SLOWER appear decrease your pace When the words PEDALING IN RANGE appear maintain your current pace important The target pace settings are intend ed only to provide motivation Your actual pace may be slower than the target pace set tings Make sure to pedal at a pace that is comfortable for you You can manually override the resistance level if desired by press
9. three numbers are your training zone The lowest number is the recommended heart rate for fat burning the middle number is the recommended heart rate for maximum fat burning the highest num ber is the recommended heart rate for aerobic exer cise Fat Burning To burn fat effectively you must exercise at a relative ly low intensity level for a sustained period of time 17 During the first few minutes of exercise your body uses easily accessible carbohydrate calories for ener gy Only after the first few minutes of exercise does your body begin to use stored fat calories for energy If your goal is to burn fat adjust the intensity of your exercise until your heart rate is near the lowest num ber in your training zone as you exercise For maxi mum fat burning adjust the intensity of your exercise until your heart rate is near the middle number in your training zone as you exercise Aerobic Exercise If your goal is to strengthen your cardiovascular sys tem your exercise must be aerobic Aerobic exer cise is activity that requires large amounts of oxygen for prolonged periods of time This increases the demand on the heart to pump blood to the muscles and on the lungs to oxygenate the blood For aerobic exercise adjust the intensity of your exercise until your heart rate is near the highest number in your training zone WORKOUT GUIDELINES Each workout should include the following three parts A w
10. use of dumbbells and an inflatable exercise ball not included To purchase dumbbells or an exer cise ball call toll free 1 888 533 1333 You can also use two calorie goal programs designed to help you burn 300 calories in 30 or 45 minute work outs The calorie goal programs automatically control the resistance of the pedals and prompt you to increase or decrease your pace while counting the calories you burn To use the manual mode of the console follow the steps beginning on page 10 To use a trainer pro gram see page 12 To use a cross training pro gram see page 13 To use a calorie goal program see page 15 Note If there is a sheet of clear plastic on the face of the console remove the plastic HOW TO USE THE MANUAL MODE Press any button or begin pedaling to turn on the console A moment after you turn on the console the dis play will light Select the manual mode Each time you turn on the console the manual mode will be selected automatically If you have selected a program reselect the manual mode by pressing the Programs button repeatedly until the words MANUAL MODE appear in the top of the display Begin pedaling and change the resistance of the pedals as desired As you pedal change the resistance of the ped als by pressing the Increase and Decrease but tons repeatedly There are ten resistance levels Note After you press the buttons it will take a moment for the pedals to reach the selec

PLACEMENT If the console display becomes dim the batteries should be replaced most console problems are the result of low batteries To replace the batteries see assembly step 5 on page 6 CONDITIONING GUIDELINES The following guidelines will help you to plan your exercise program Remember that proper nutrition and adequate rest are essential for successful results A WARNING Before beginning this or any exercise pro gram consult your physician This is espe cially important for persons over the age of 35 or persons with pre existing health prob lems The pulse sensor is not a medical device Various factors may affect the accuracy of heart rate readings The pulse sensor is intended only as an exercise aid in determin ing heart rate trends in general EXERCISE INTENSITY Whether your goal is to burn fat or to strengthen your cardiovascular system the key to achieving the desired results is to exercise with the proper intensity The proper intensity level can be found by using your heart rate as a guide The chart below shows recom mended heart rates for fat burning maximum fat burning and cardiovascular aerobic exercise 165 155 145 140 130 125 145 138 130 125 118 110 125 120 115 110 105 95 20 30 40 50 60 70 To find the proper heart rate for you first find your age at the bottom of the chart ages are rounded off to the nearest ten years Next find the three numbers above your age The

15. he console can display speed and distance in either miles or kilo meters The letters MPH or Km H will appear in the display to indicate the selected unit of measurement To change the unit of measure ment first hold down the Program button for sev eral seconds An E for English or an M for met ric will appear in the display Press the Increase button to change the unit of measurement When the desired unit of measurement is selected press the Program button again Note When you replace the batteries it may be necessary to rese lect the unit of measurement E 5 Measure your heart rate if desired If there are sheets of clear plastic on the metal contacts on the handgrip pulse sensor remove the plastic To measure your heart rate hold the handgrip pulse sen sor with your palms resting against the metal contacts Avoid moving your hands or gripping the contacts too tightly De PULSE Metal Contacis When your pulse is detected a heart shaped symbol will flash in the left side of the display each time your heart beats one or two dashes will appear and then your heart rate will be shown For the most accu rate heart rate reading hold the contacts for at least 15 seconds Note If you continue to hold the handgrip pulse sensor the display will show your heart rate for up to 30 seconds If your heart rate is not shown make sure that your hands are positioned as described Be care ful

18. it may scratch the seat post Next pull the knob slide the seat post to the desired height and then release the knob Move the seat post upward and downward slightly until the pin on the knob engages one of the holes in the seat post Then turn the knob clock wise until it is tight PROGRAM FEATURES OF THE CONSOLE The advanced console offers an array of features designed to make your workouts more effective and enjoyable When you select the manual mode of the console you can change the resistance of the pedals with the touch of a button As you exercise the console will display continuous exercise feedback You can even measure your heart rate using the handgrip pulse sensor The console offers two trainer programs that automati cally change the resistance of the pedals and prompt you to increase or decrease your pace while guiding you through an effective workout The console also features three interactive cross train ing programs designed to help you to burn calories and enhance your cardiovascular system while toning and strengthening your muscles The cross training programs automatically control the resistance of the pedals and prompt you to perform a variety of strength exercises during your workout Choose an upper body lower body or whole body cross training program for a focused workout Note The strength exercises require the
19. not to move your hands excessively or to squeeze the metal contacts too tightly For opti mal performance clean the metal contacts using a soft cloth never use alcohol abrasives or chemicals to clean the contacts 11 G Turn on the fan if desired 7 To turn on the fan at high speed press the Fan button To turn on the fan at low speed press the button a second time To turn off the fan press the button a third time Note If the pedals do not move for a few minutes the fan will automatically turn off to conserve the batteries Pivot the thumb tab on the right side of the fan to adjust the fan angle When you are finished exercising the console will turn off automatically If the pedals do not move for several seconds a tone will sound and the console will pause If the pedals do not move for about five minutes and the buttons are not pressed the console will turn off and the display will be reset HOW TO USE A TRAINER PROGRAM Press any button or begin pedaling to turn on the console A moment after you turn on the console the dis play will light Select a trainer program Press the Program button repeatedly until the words TRAINER 1 or TRAINER 2 appear in the display When you select a trainer program the program time will appear in the display and a pro file of the resistance levels for the program will scroll across the center of the display Begin pedaling to start

21. ted resistance level Follow your progress with the display The left side of the display This side of the display will show the elapsed time Note When a pro gram is selected the display will show the time remaining in the pro gram instead of the elapsed time 3417 Lyi The left side of the display will also show your heart rate when you use the handgrip pulse sen sor see step 5 on page 11 When a program is selected the left side of the display will also show the approximate number of calories you have burned 10 The center of the display When you select the manual mode the center of the display will show a track that represents 1 4 mile As you exercise indicators will appear in succession around the track until the entire track appears The track will then disappear and the indicators will again begin to appear in succession A The center of the dis play will also show the 7 g resistance level of the smst A RESIST pedals for a few sec onds each time the resistance level changes The right side of the display This side of the display will show the distance in miles or kilometers you have pedaled and your pedaling pace in miles or kilometers per hour The top of the dis play When you select the manual mode the top of the display will show the approximate number of calories you have burned Note T
22. th a soft cloth never use alcohol abrasives or chemicals to clean the metal contacts Avoid moving your hands or squeezing the metal con tacts too tightly while using the pulse sensor doing so may interfere with heart rate readings For the most accurate heart rate reading hold the metal contacts for about 15 seconds HOW TO ADJUST THE REED SWITCH If the console does not display correct feedback the reed switch should be adjusted To adjust the reed switch the pedals and the side shields must be removed Using an adjustable wrench turn the left pedal clock wise and turn the right pedal counterclockwise to remove the pedals 16 Next remove the screws from the left and right side shields Note There are two different sizes of screws in the side shields Make sure to note the location of each screw Then carefully remove the side shields Next locate the Reed Switch 21 Turn the Crank 13 until the Magnet 16 is aligned with the Reed Switch Loosen but do not remove the indicated M5 x 12mm Screw 9 Slide the Reed Switch slightly closer to or away from the Magnet and then retighten the Screw Turn the Crank for a moment Repeat until the console displays correct feedback When the reed switch is correctly adjusted reattach the side shields and the pedals To reattach the ped als turn the left pedal counterclockwise and turn the right pedal clockwise BATTERY RE

24. y become damaged Press the tab on the battery cover and remove the battery cover Insert four batteries into the console make sure that the batteries are oriented as shown by the diagram inside the battery com partment Then reattach the battery cover 6 While another person holds the Console 6 near the Upright 3 connect the console wire harness to the Upper Wire Harness 32 Insert the excess Upper Wire Harness 32 downward into the Upright 3 Attach the Console 6 to the Upright with four M4 x 15mm Screws 40 Be careful to avoid pinching the Wire Harness 7 Attach the Seat 12 to the Seat Post 5 with four M8 Nylon Locknuts 37 and four M8 Split Washers 36 Note The Nylon Locknuts and Split Washers may be preattached to the Seat Batteries Battery Cover Batteries Console Wire Harness Be careful to avoid pinching the wires 8 Turn the Adjustment Knob 11 counterclockwise two or three turns to loosen it if the Adjustment Knob is not loosened enough it may scratch the Seat Post 5 Next pull the Adjustment Knob insert the Seat Post into the Frame 1 and then release the Adjustment Knob Move the Seat Post upward and downward slightly until the pin on the Adjustment Knob engages one of the holes in the Seat Post Then turn the Adjustment Knob clockwise until it is tight 9 Identify the Left Pedal 24 which is marked with an L Us
