SAFETY TURTLE by Terrapin Communications www safetyturtle com OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS WIRELESS GATE ALARM GA 101 The GA 101 Gate Alarm i requires a Safety Turtle Base Station purchased separately READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE STARTING Gate Alarm LED Adult bypass switch housing Baby Turtle Reed switch coding plug attached to housing color matches the Gate Alarm holder Gate Alarm housing two 8 3 4 screws gt Activati 2 ctivation AN magnet A a Four 6 Mounting template screws WIRELESS GATE ALARM GA 101 Except for the battery this product is warranted for one year from the date of purchase The effects of misuse are not covered by the warranty See the Safety Turtle User Guide for customer support information INSTALLING THE GA 101 Mount the Gate Alarm sensor in accordance with local codes and or regulations where applicable J Confirm the locations of the Gate Alarm holder the reed switch and the activation magnet before proceed ing Note The reed switch and the activation magnet are normally mounted FRONT facing but for latch gaps of more than 1 inch 2 5 cm they may RE IRATaN need to be side facing CONFIGURATION A The holder must be attached so the Gate Alarm is in an upright position Use two wood screws to secure the holder to the top of a wooden fence post or frame Use self tapping metal screws not included to attach the holde

3. arts f after testing return the Base Station to Active Mode see the Safety Turtle User Guide H If no beeping occurred in 4 open the gate wider If this solves the problem the spacing between the reed switch and the magnet needs to be increased very slightly see INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS Repeat Step 4 Step 6 is optional if Step 4 was successful Repeat Step 4 with the Base Station in Active Mode amber light off Once the Base Station alarms press the moon shaped button to turn it off If the system performs correctly in Active Mode but not in Test Mode see the Safety Turtle User Guide the CR2032 battery in the Gate Alarm needs replacing in the near future If Steps 4 and 6 have both failed relocate the Base Station where there is better reception of the signal from the Gate Alarm sensor see Locate the Base Station in the Initial Setup and Testing section of the Safety Turtle User Guide The 11 second adult entry countdown only starts when the adult bypass switch is released It also resets to 11 seconds whenever the switch is pressed while the LED is still on Hold or press the switch repeatedly to prolong the timeout REPLACING THE BATTERY Release the battery from the holder as shown below Install the new battery per INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS If the gate has to be kept open for an extended period remove the battery to avoid rapid discharge PRESS FIRMLY ON THE MIDDLE TAB OF THE BATTERY HOLD
4. e spacing between the reed switch and magnet see INSTALLA TION INSTRUCTIONS If this does not work remove the battery and contact the manufacturer for assistance B A Base Station will only alarm when it is in range of the signal transmitted by the installed GA 101 The range varies to a maximum of about 250 ft 75 meters and must be tested for each installation To maximize range locate the Base Station as high as possible and facing the coverage area e g the pool and or alarmed gate s see Locate the Base Station in the Initial Setup and Testing section of the Safety Turtle User Guide E Test the operation of the system as follows a the gate should be latched except where indicated b the Base Station should be in Test Mode with its amber light on see the Safety Turtle User Guide c the LED on the Gate Alarm should illuminate for about 11 seconds after the adult bypass switch on top of the unit is pressed if it does not the battery needs to be replaced or pressed firmly into its holder see Replacing the battery Safety Turtle is not a substitute for diligent supervision or an adequate barrier to restrict the access of children to water hazards d open the gate beeping should start immediately and continue with the gate resting on the latch and stop within a few seconds of latching e press the bypass switch then immediately open the gate there is an 11 second delay before the beeping st
5. ousing Re insert the housing into the holder PRESS DOWN SECURE THE BATTERY IN POSITION OPERATING THE GA 101 The Safety Turtle User Guide that comes with the Base Station explains the functionality of the Safety Turtle system and the Base Station The following instructions are supplemental to the Safety Turtle User Guide The GA 101 Gate Alarm sensor transmits but does not alarm locally Alarming occurs only at the Base Station which is purchased separately All Safety Turtle sensors Turtles Gate Alarms and Panic Buttons must be of the same color to work with one Base Station The Baby Turtle coding plug and sensors all depict this color Refer to the accompanying diagram of the GA 101 Note the positions of the adult bypass switch the button on top of the Gate Alarm and the LED the light next to the button A Before the Gate Alarm sensor can function the GA 101 must be installed on a gate see INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS The last step in the installation is to insert the battery into its holder Do this when the Base Station is plugged in with its green light on and is not alarming If the Base Station alarms as soon as the Gate Alarm sensor battery is installed check to make sure that the gate is properly latched If pressing the moon shaped button on the Base Station does not completely silence the alarm the reed switch and magnet are spaced too far apart when the gate is latched Reduce th
