1. DVR VCR etc 1 Connect the audio video outputs of the video player recorder to the DVR VCR1 AUDIO and VIDEO inputs Use a stereo RCA phono jack audio cable for the audio connection and a video or S video cable for the video connection e For a second recorder use the DVR VCR2 IN inputs Note 2 If the device can record connect the DVR VCR1 AUDIO and VIDEO outputs to the recorder s audio video inputs Use a stereo RCA phono jack audio cable for the audio connection and a video or S video cable for the video connection e For a second recorder use the DVR VCR2 outputs 3 If the device can output digital audio connect an optical type digital audio output from the recorder to the OPTICAL 1 DVR VCR1 input Use an optical cable for the connection e For a second recorder use the COAXIAL 2 DVR VCR2 inputs Using the component video jacks Component video should give superior picture quality when compared to composite or S video You can also take advantage of progressive scan video if your source and TV are both compatible which delivers avery stable flicker free picture See the manuals that came with your TV and source component to check whether they are compatible with progressive scan video 1 If your set top box only has a coaxial digital output you can connect it to one of the coaxial inputs on this receiver using a coaxial digital audio cable When you set up the receiver you l

Listening to Surround Sound This receiver was designed with the easiest possible setup in mind so with the following quick setup guide you should have your system hooked up for surround sound in no time at all In most cases you can simply leave the receiver in the default settings e Be sure to complete all connections before connecting this unit to an AC power source 1 Connect your TV and DVD player See Connecting your TV and DVD player on page 13 to do this For surround sound you ll want to hook up using a digital connection from the DVD player to the receiver 2 Connect your speakers and place them for optimal surround sound Connect your speakers as shown in nstalling your speaker system on page 17 Where you place the speakers will have a big effect on the sound Place your speakers as shown below for the best surround sound effect Also see Placing the speakers on page 18 for more on this Center C Front Left L 3 Subwoofer SW Surround Right SR Surround Back Listening acl position Right SBR Surround Left SL Surround Back Left SBL 3 Plug in the receiver and switch it on followed by your DVD player your subwoofer and the TV Make sure you ve set the video input on your TV to this receiver Check the manual that came with the TV if you don t know how to do this e Set the subwoofer volume to a comfortable level 4 Use the on screen automatic MCACC setup to set up

During playback of a Surround EX or DTS ES source on the SBch AUTO setting the EX and ES indicators don t light or the signal is not properly processed e The source may be Dolby Surround EX DTS ES software but it has no flag to indicate it is 6 1 compatible Set to SBch ON see Using surround back channel processing on page 29 then switch to the THX Surround EX or Standard EX listening mode see Listening in surround sound on page 26 Remote control Symptom Remedy Cannot be remote controlled e Try replacing the batteries in the remote control see Loading the batteries on page 7 e Be sure to operate within 7 meters and a 30 angle of the remote sensor on the front panel see Operating range of remote control unit on page 22 e Check that there are no obstacles between the receiver and the remote control e Make sure that there is no fluorescent or other strong light shining on to the remote sensor e Check the connections of the CONTROL IN jack see Operating other Pioneer components with this unit s sensor on page 59 Other components can t be operated with the system remote f the battery ran down the preset codes may have been cleared Re enter the preset codes e The preset code may be incorrect Redo the procedure for entering preset codes The SR cable is connected but e Reinsert the SR cable making sure it s connected to the right jack see Using this receiver with a Pioneer the connected

No picture e Depending in the output settings of the source component it may be outputting a video format that can t be displayed Change the output settings of the source or connect using the component S video or composite jacks OSD does not appear e The OSD will not appear if you have connected using the HDMI output to your TV Use component S video or composite connections when setting up the system No sound or sound suddenly e Since the HDMI audio signal is sent through this receiver to your TV you need to make separate ceases connections for audio if you want to hear your HDMI component through this system See Connecting using HDMI on page 44 for more on this e If you ve made separate connections for audio make sure you have assigned the analog digital jack s to the corresponding HDMI input for the component See Assigning the HDMI inputs on page 50 to do this e Check the audio output settings of the source component Note e Ifthe unit does not operate normally due to external effects such as static electricity disconnect the power plug from the outlet and insert again to return to normal operating conditions Additional information Surround sound formats Below is a brief description of the main surround sound formats you ll find on DVDs satellite cable and terrestrial broadcasts and video cassettes Dolby The Dolby technologies are explained below See www dolby com for more detailed inform
